#290 Bay Dun Moroccan Tobiano

Postby bears » Thu Jul 21, 2016 7:39 am

Calling all writers! To win this girl, write a story about her! The trick is that the story must be at night! Does she love the dark? Is she afraid of it? Is she a sleep walker? Does she only sleep during the day?

Please don't pretty up your forms [centering, changing the size, etc. doesn't count] or add any other extras!
End date: July 23rd, 12pm MST [forms and editing will be cut off regardless of whether I post or not]

      Things change.
Val came to realize this when she finally came to a stop and realized that the sun had gone down long ago and the night had already closed in. Was she that lost in her own mind to not realize the change in time? But then again, she had been searching since morning and didn't notice the afternoon creeping in either... All this searching, yet she came no closer to finding- No. She suddenly thought. I need to keep on searching. I'm not giving up yet.

Barn Name: Arrie

Story: Standing in the center of a vast field a was a small mustang resting her eyes. Other animals around her were beginning to settle in for the night. This mustang did not seem to notice that dusk was upon her. Almost like clockwork as soon as the sun had fully set and the moon was rising up the mustangs eyes popped wide open.

With a panic the mustang began to spin around in a fast circle assessing the blackness around her. After a few minutes she stopped spinning and stood still flaring her nostrils. Was that a fox she could smell in the distance, or was it something larger? A creature scuffled by her leg causing her to jump to the side. What could that have possibly been? A snake? A rabbit?

The longer she stood in the darkness the more panicked she got. She had always known that she was afraid of the dark but she had always managed to get to shelter before dusk had set. How had she managed to forget to find shelter, she could not remember. Reluctantly she realized that she needed to find a safer place to spend the night and began to walk forward.

She had managed to walk several feet in the field before stepping on something and sinking into the ground a little. At this she jumped backwards. Not knowing what it was and not being able to see what was on the ground was new to her. Slowly she brought her nose to the ground and sniffed cautiously. After a few minutes of sniffing she realized the ground had turned from long grass to sand. She must be headed towards the beach, the opposite direction she wanted to go.

Unfortunately it was too late to turn around she had already traveled so far already. She knew of a cove along the shore, and if she happened to be traveling in the correct direction she should be there within a few minutes. So she kept trudging along, spooking every now and then at noises and animals that crossed her path.

After about ten more minutes of walking she finally heard the ocean and started to feel some of the rocks from the sea against her hooves. Within a few feet she was in the shelter of the cove. She sighed with relief to be out of the open and was proud of herself for managing to find shelter in total darkness. A few seconds after she had settled into the cove she heard a noise coming from behind her and the panic of being in the dark came back.

To be continued ...

Next time: What was behind the mare? | Does she ever overcome her fear of the dark?

Story:
The days are always filled with such anxiety. The hustle and bustle of everyone around me, their stresses and worry pouring off of them like sweat. I loathe the morning light that takes my sweet night from me. Because that is where I feel safe and happy - the night. The cool blue hues creeping over the land as it swallows the sun whole. The symphony of silence the patters out as the mindless chatter leaves my ears. The sweet smell of open air, that crisp and cleanness, the empty fields that echo my steps as I walk. I could go on and on about how much better the night is to me.
I suppose I have always adored the late hours. Though I do recall, as a filly, a night in which I truly realized how much I adored the darkness.
I had spent my days with my mother, doing our normal daily things, when one early morning a loud and shivering vehicle crawled up the path toward the field gate. My mother had always loved the humans, and rushed past me to greet the truck, probably hoping for an early morning ride along the quite roads. I however felt an uneasiness about it all. I was right to, of course. The back of the truck popped open with a loud clunk. And out spilled them. Three tall and seemingly handsome colts trotted out, their noses plastered to the sky. I didnt like them right off the bat. My mother inched up welcomingly and greeted the foals - she had always loved newcomers, unlike me. They wernt necessarily unpleasant toward her, but I had expected a more friendly response to such a great mare, and that annoyed me. But what annoyed me more was the noise.
All day long, constantly, without a single lapse, they played. They were loud and rambunctious little devils, breaking fences, screaming and hollering, kicking up mud. Despite my small stature I had begun contemplating approaching the colts and even challenging them. In fact, as the day went on, I did just that. It was late afternoon and the sun was lying across the horizen. Shadows were dramatized around me and the ground below my hooves boiled with a firey palette. The boys had drudged up another muddle hole near the front gate, covering everything in dirt. I hated dirt. I liked my world clean, and proper. These stupid little foals had destroyed that. So I stood, my ears pinned back, and snorted at them. They all turned to me with an awful grin. The tallest of them, his pelt white as newly fallen snow, glared down at me.
I explained myself in a way that, perhaps, was a little more aggressive than necessary. For lack of a better word, they were not happy with such digressions.
The next thing I know I was flying past my mother as the three much larger foals gave chase. I felt a nip at my flank, a tear at my ear, hair being ripped out of my precious tail as I zipped away. I ran well into the night. The gracious, wonderful night.
In the end I was able to cower in the darkness, hide away from the danger, and be still.
Ever since then, even as I and the colts grew past such childish behaviors and grudges, I felt safe within the darkness. I strode away each morning to sleep the day away. And in the night when I awoke, all was well.

Barn name: Blossom
Story:

In the dark of the night a white shadow roams. In the dark of the night the mare flies through the trees. Why she does this no one knows for certain. All they know is that a ghost with a darkened hidden face is floating by. Her hooves hover over the forest foilage and her whinnies wispy and thin. They say she is in search of a home. In search of a pure soul. No one knows why she comes in the night.

Edlothia's hooves pounded the earth as she raced accross the forest floor. She was racing against the stars and the Moon. Oh how she loved the night sky. She only came out at night for in the day her brothren was caught. She just wanted to roam free and far away from the people. Most of who see her at night call her a ghost horse. She supposed it made perfect sense since she was white and only came out at night.

The people fear her. The people love her. The people praise her. The ghost horse who comes in the night! Yes, she comes in the night. She comes in the night to steal your horses. She comes in the night to steal your soul. Quick! Before she sees you! Quick! Before she haunts you! Beware the horse of the night! Beware the Dark Princess Light!

Blossom quietly stalked among the trees. She heard a whicker and some winnies from the neighboring farms and ranches. She could use a good friend on a lonely night like this. She pawed the ground and cautiously stalked closer to the ranches. She gave a low neigh to get the attention of the ranch horses. They turned their heads and answered back. The mare reared and leaped into a fast canter in high hopes of finding a friend on a lonely night like this.
