Xanthe's earliest memory is from when he was nothing more than a kit rolling unhindered in the grass. He remembers vaguely the heat of the day, the weight of the humid air, the sensation of the dirt against his paws but what comes to him with surprising clarity is the colors of the butterfly that alighted on his nose. Xanthe has never been very fearful of bugs, a trait inherited from his mother, but he was fascinated with the small black legs of the insect and the inquisitive flicker of its blossoming wings. Later he will understand that it was quite young too, freshly emerged from the cocoon that had grown it, and that it had landed on him simply to rest its quivering wings. But in that moment Xanthe is simply awestruck that this butterfly has chosen him of all perches, has landed on his nose so he can squint cross-eyed at it and try hard not to breathe and scare it off. Into adulthood Xanthe will recall the memory whenever he is stressed or overtaxed, remembering the butterfly's shifting antenna, the purity of his excitement for it. He still cherishes butterflies to this day, and favors particularly monarchs.

It was Arlen's sixth birthday, today was the day he had been waiting for all year; he finally was going to pick out a pet. Once his mother brought him to the store, he was told he could buy any pet he wanted. Looking around he saw all sorts of cool animals, but then he saw it; a small fish missing an eye. The clerk said he was fading away but Arlen fell in love with the fish. He urged and urged until his mother said yes.
On the ride home, the little kit stared at his companion happily. "I'm going to call you Bumper Snout." And so it was. Arlen made a clear hamsterball into a fish bowl and tied roller skates to it so the little fish could go everywhere with him, and that's what he did. The two were, and still are, inseparable, the two of them having gotten older and bigger since they first came together.

But this was the best moment of my life. I smiled until my cheeks hurt, and couldn't resist a small laugh of my own. Standing proudly, collecting my props, I returned to the microphone. This was it. My big break as a comedienne! My audience, my audience rose to their paws and clapped for me. Even as sweat dripped from my forehead, even though my butt hurt from the cold, hard stage floor, my heart swelled with pride. I knew I couldn't let anything stop me. And I knew nobody could resist a living banana telling jokes! As a child, I was teased for my resemblance to the funny fruit. Obviously, I still am, but I just can't help smiling. Today I can do it for the benefit of others, and thank those bullies for shaping who I am right now. Today has truly been fruitful.

She replied, gently brushing the mane out of her kit's face, earning a giggle. "The one about my name!" The kit answered, bouncing excitedly, her eyes bright. Her mother chuckled, "Alright, alright. Settle down..."
---" When you were born, your father and I thought you were the cutest kit either of us had ever seen. We were so wrapped up in your arrival, when asked about your name, we were at a loss. Anyway, when neither of us came up with anything we could agree on after an hour or so, we decided to take a small break and get a snack. Your father loves candy, so we got a bag of jellybeans. 'Hey! Why not Jellybean?' Your father suddenly asked, through a mouthful of the candy. I'll never understand how he can eat so many flavors at once! 'That's a little...Unusual, don't you think?' I replied skeptically. He shrugged in response, 'Normal is boring. Besides, look at her tail shine.' I smiled, 'True. Pineapple Jellybean it is.' "

The beans on my plate sat their, waiting to be eaten. I looked at them in pure disgust. I hated beans. My name might be Bean but I don't care! I could not stand beans. My mother and father both gave me the stink eye as I frowned at my beans, which appeared to almost be smiling at me, no matter how much I frowned down upon them.

"Eat your beans!" My mother said. My face contorted into face that's hard to describe. It was a cross between an "EWWW" face and a "What even?" face. When I turned my nose up, my father gave me a questioning glare that said "Eat. Your. Beans."

Reluctantly, I tasted one, chewed it and swallowed. I shuddered in disgust. Then all of a sudden, I wanted more beans??? I ate a few more, then more and more, until they were completely gone. I still wanted more, and on my face grew the biggest smile ever. I suddenly loved beans! They were amazing!!

I heard my mother's giggle, and my father's small chuckle. "We told you they would be good!" mother said. I smiled charismatically, and went to grab more.

Deep reds, bright, pastel pinks, yellows and oranges filled the sky. The sun had started setting, and the pier had just lit up all the attractions. Adrien grinned, he was pleased. Even though contton candy stuck a bit to him, he was estactic. The ferris wheel had been lit up, and it flashed.

"So many colors, sights, smells, and sounds!" He thoguht aloud, looking up at the sky.

It was wonderful, all the happy smiling faces, all the wonderful food. The Kalon made its way towards the line for the ferris wheel, waiting happily. He didn't mind the line at all. Eventually, his turn came, and he beamed when he got into his cart. The wheel went up, freezing for a moment up at the top. The sight was breathtaking! All sorts of colors filled the sky, the clouds pink and wispy, the sun a deep orange, and all of it reflected against the ocean water. It was truly amazing! His eyes widned, taking in the scene with delight. (169/200)
