Bander was an anxious catshee, plagued by nightmares that had kept them on edge and awake at night while growing up. Once a year, the spirit world and the land of the living draw close enough to touch. Some celebrate this connection with festivities. Some honor the ones they loved that they have lost in hopes that their messages will reach ears that have long since stopped hearing. Some huddle in their dens by candlelight, relying on the brightness to ward off that which strikes terror in their hearts.

But every year, the time of spirits wandering the land must come to an end.

And every year, some refuse to go quietly.

Spireath is a being born of necessity. It, itself, has two paws in the spirit realm, white as bone and unable to hold objects, simply passing through anything except its own body and scythe. Its pale jaw is unable to hold food. Spireath's teeth and claws are weapons reserved for the spirits that haunt the waking world long after they are supposed to be gone, and as such it must sustain itself on the essence of such creatures. Too long without a meal, and it falls into a torpid state until it smells a grand feast of ghostly energy once more.

Spireath's scythe is the implement that keeps it bound to the material plane. It is both protection and a tether, keeping Spireath's amalgamation of a body from detaching itself from existence entirely. As Spireath's claws cannot move objects, the scythe, clunky as it would appear, is the tool that it deftly wields to manipulate objects and rid itself of physical hazards. In a pinch, the two massive teeth on the end can be used to tear into a particularly vengeful phantom, having been ripped from one of Spireath's first hunts.

As loathe as Spireath is to harm the living, it will not hesitate to lash out should one attempt to damage its beloved scythe. It is otherwise a mellow being of few words. Perhaps, in time, it may even find that there is more to life than its calling...

Just because one has a warm place to stay doesn't mean they won't stray, given the chance. Vandell doesn't know the meaning of the word "boundaries" and it shows in how she treats the world as if it's hers for the taking. If it's in their sight, well, they must have come across it for a reason. Besides, it's not as if they're a rogue; they only live life to the fullest, as it's meant to be.

Hijinx closes his eyes, the question filling every space in his mind. “It would have to be…” he tapped his claw on the table.

A rush of memories went swirling by faster than he could grab hold, until one stuck with him, letting him sink his claws into it and remember. “Dancing!” He smiled broadly, this clutz of a clown did not seem the type to enjoy or even participate in dancing. “I know, it’s strange—“

But there is something so beautiful about a dance, he continues to tell you. So mesmerizing, he remembers in detail the swirling of colour and paws, everyone spinning along the room like they knew exactly where they were going, and where everyone else was going. They never crashed into each other. Everyone gliding through the swells of the music, looking as pretty as a painting.

What he doesn’t tell you is that the memory has attached to it the moment he stepped outside, into the garden where he could still hear the music and tried to dance with himself. Where he was caught by a grinning stranger and asked if he would like to dance. He felt so clumsy and out of place, but the magic of the crickets and the dimly lit garden, dancing with someone you had just met… it was something he’d never forget!
