Back story: Hidden Glory trudged in the deep snow. It was up all the way to his knees. The wind was fighting against him. It blew chunks of snow that splattered all over his body. It got in his eyes and made his face numb. He couldn't feel his legs. That's when he gave out. He collapsed in a heap of black and white. Then he passed out. Hidden woke up in a pile of warm hay. He snorted and looked around. He was in a stall with water and grain. The food was tempting to his starving stomach but he resisted because he was afraid to move. Suddenly he heard footsteps outside his stall. He sniffed and snorted. Humans. Humans didn't have a good reputation with Hidden Glory. When Hidden first spotted humans, they appeared friendly to him so he trotted up to them. But it was all the opposite. They captured him and threw him in a trailer. They starved him for 3 days and sold him for lots of money. The next owner wasn't any better. The new owner made him run races 'til he couldn't stand it any longer. Hidden finally broke free after long days of pain. He managed to survive a while after that...until the snowstorm. Hidden tried to find shelter but it was no use. He had went unconscious. Now here he was, captive once again! Hidden was going to escape the minute the door opened. The latch unhooked and the door swung open. Hidden Glory stood bolt right up but his knees buckled and he fell. He hung his head in shame and waited for the laughter of the man. But instead, he felt a warm hand on his cheek. Hidden looked up into the eyes of the man and saw something he had never seen before. He saw compassion in the man's eyes and through the gentle touch of the fingers. The man smiled and ran his left hand through the mane of the black horse. Hidden was stunned and stayed silent. The man stroked the horse's neck. Hidden finally understood what this meant. He neighed and rested his head on the shoulder of his new friend. The man laughed and hugged his new companion. The man named his new horse Hidden Glory. Because he knew that somewhere inside the mangled, starved, and depressed body was a lively soul ready to be released by some love.
