- Breeding for Pardus. Got lucky with the genes on this baby!
Normally I only ever use the PATN1 gene in my genotypes, but since Broken used PATN2 for Sugar I've respected that. There is little research and conflicting ideas about the PATN genes beyond PATN1. PATN2 is often used as a catch-all name for multiple smaller PATN genes that don't show as much white as PATN1. It's thought to show 0-50% of white on an appaloosa horse, with slightly more white showing with additional copies of the gene. Hence this baby, with only one PATN2 gene, has such a little blanket!
