Euphorian Thoroughbred #244

Postby ExVenor » Sat Oct 12, 2019 11:35 am

Welcome to the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project
Euphorian Thoroughbreds are a rare string of the Thoroughbred breed. They come from a single farm simply called “Euphoria” that has horses with mutated genes. These allow them to be able to possess any realistic coat or markings. Everything else about the sub-type is the same. Long, strong legs, a powerful hind, and great speed. Their eyes are soft and the breed is incredibly smart, if not a bit goofy. They love kids and have the rare ability to excel in any discipline. They can grow from 15hh-18hh, though usually somewhere in the middle.
The horses readopted through the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project are looking for a new loving home and a new job. They’ve tried racing and have either retired or decided the sport wasn’t for them. Either way, they are ready for the next chapter in their life. Some of these horses will come with a little training already, and will have their new discipline already determined. Although others you’ll get to pick how they move forwards!

Show Name: ARR Dulce de Leche
Barn Name: Cara (short for Caramel)
Age: 5 years
Height: 15.3 hh
Halter: Based off of name
Discipline: Dressage
Explanation: Despite her sugary name and sweet, caramel-colored eyes, this girl is far from the angel most people thinks she is. As for her rider, handler, trainers, etc.? She's an absolute dream. Smooth gait, obedient under saddle, always willing to work, love to compete; her problem, though, lays in her interactions with other horses, stallions in particular. Around the opposite sex, she loves to cause absolute /chaos/ because, you see, Cara is a spoiled brat. She's manipulative and cunning, and she's figured out that those lovely amber eyes of hers can get her just about whatever she wants. So she flicks her tail, does a little prance, and brandishes those big puppy-dog eyes whenever she gets the chance. Often times, it will lead to the stallions all competing for the vixen's attention, and in her previous stable, she'd actually been the cause of some severe fights in which stallions had injured one another.

So far no amount of retraining, correction, or isolation has done anything to deter her flirtatiousness, so we just keep her separated from groups of young stallions whenever possible. She did try to use her charms on a mare once before, but the older thoroughbred wouldn't have it, and tore a chunk out of her long, meticulously cared-for mane. We ended up having to crop her mane to ensure that there was no permanent damage, and now we're just waiting on it to grow back out. She was devastated, but learned not to try and charm another mare ever again.

Luckily since she's come to my barn, she had seemed to mellow out a bit. Most of my stallions are not very reactive to her, safe for one or two of my younger studs, and they're kept separated as a rule anyways. She seems to get along with most of my herd, but my lead mare isn't afraid to give her a tiny nip if she gets out of hand; her charms and showiness does tend to help during competition, though, as her little prances and displays tend to attract more attention. Then as soon as she steps in the arena, she'd so calm, controlled, and elegant that I'm sure even some of the judges' jaws drop. Despite the trouble she does cause, I think as she grows up a little more, she'll definitely grow out of it. Then maybe she really will be as sweet as her show name.

    Show Name: No Sudden Movement
    Barn Name: Vallelunga
    Age: 7 years
    Height: 16hh
Halter: Peach [#FFB09C] with Silver Buckles
    Discipline: Mounted Search and Rescue
    Explanation: 860 words.

Vallelunga is known for causing a riot among the stallions when she is first released into the pasture, despite the stallions being inside their own, separate corrals. The stallion she enjoys riling up the most at Peach Tree Vineyards is Veyron. Contrary to popular opinion, the interaction witnessed between Vallelunga and Veyron on a regular basis is more familial than romantic.

The two Euphorians were born and raised together, albeit to different parents, and have been close ever since. With age, they needed to be separated but Vallelunga has found a way to continue interacting with her foal-hood friend, as dramatic as it may seem to onlookers.

The golden mare gave a snort as she bolted through the open gate, galloping with tail held high as she let out a shrill whinny. Vallelunga’s thundering hooves disturbed the dew-covered grass and cobwebs that dotted the pasture. The blades swayed lazily as their load was lifted by her passing form. As the fence approached, the mare called again as she put on her brake, skidding to a stop on the damp grass. She waited in silence, eyes wide and ears searching for any sound.

From inside the barn, another horse responded to her calls. A stallion’s dark head immerged from the doorway, ears perked though still lazily chewing his breakfast. When Veyron caught sight of the mare he entered his corral at an enthusiastic trot, calling to her once more. Vallelunga returned his second call, pacing along the fence closest to the stallion’s corral.

As Veyron made his way toward the mare and reached the fence, her attitude changed. With a playful squeal, she turned and leaped into the air, kicking out with both back legs and taking off at a run. This action made Veyron turn and kick as well, squealing and darting toward the opposite corner of his corral. He raced back to where he was closest to her and watched her retreat, calling frantically before running along the fence, wishing he could run with her. The noise got the attention of the other stallions and mares in the pasture, causing everyone to begin running and calling in confusion and desperation, but the duo were not entirely unhappy.

The effect this has on the stable as a whole is chaotic. With Veyron and Vallelunga riled up, the other patrons get riled up as well. The stallions call and jump around while the mares call and run from one end of the pasture to the other. It simply disturbs the early-morning peace at Peach Tree Vineyards but isn’t such an issue that the owners need to do something drastic about. Working Search and Rescue missions, however, can sometimes get these two into trouble. Fortunately for the riders, they discovered this issue before they had to work a mission.

A small scowl crossed Jensen’s face as he watched Matthew coming in his direction atop Vallelunga. The golden mare’s ears perked at the recognition of Veyron and she gave a friendly knicker as they approached, carefully moving from a walk to a lazy trot. The stallion’s head jerked up from the water trough and he let out an obnoxiously loud call, water sloshing from his parted lips. The rider could only blink as the pair approached.

“What are you doing, Matty? I thought you said you were going to ride Diablo,” he raised his eyebrows as his husband approached with a sheepish smile on his face.

He pulled the mare to a stop once they’d reached Jensen and Veyron’s side, the two horses nibbling at each other pleasantly. The riders chuckled lightly before Matthew sighed, “Well, Vallelunga could use some work too. We’ve worked Diablo and Veyron together, but never Veyron with Val. Making sure all our horses can work together is just as important, remember? And besides, both of these two are excellent with others when under saddle, so what makes you think they’ll be any different around each other?”

Jensen shook his head with a smile and rolled his eyes, deciding he wasn’t going to argue with Matthew today. He had a valid point. They’d already preplanned their route so he urged Veyron toward their trail. The stallion went forward willingly, turning his attention from the mare to the task at hand. Vallelunga, however, gave a squeal as she crow-hopped and kicked toward Veyron before darting past him. The stallion squeal in response and reared slightly, darting after the mare in a race. Both Jensen and Matthew were a bit shocked by the actions of their horses and took a moment to get them slowed to a stop. They shared a knowing glance, breathing heavily.

Matthew broke into scattered, breathless laughter as Jensen shook his head, “Well, I guess
    that isn’t going to work.”

Despite this, the owners refuse to separate the two any more than they already have to. They plan on sterilizing Veyron in the future so that he can be properly reunited with Vallelunga...and hope that doing so will cause less of a stir every morning. Once the stallion is retired from breeding, Vallelunga will finally be able to work happily alongside her best friend once more.

    Show Name: Faraway Flirt
    Barn Name: Anya
    Age: 6 Years, 3 months
    Height: 15.3hh
    Halter: A pretty pink!
    Discipline: Show Jumping
    Explanation:
It was clear the day I brought her home that a particular stallion of mine had caught Anya's eye. Calm and docile before loading, as soon as she took two steps off the trailer and into the property, her behaviour became flirtatious and confident, with an arched neck, high tail and perked ears. Her steps were high, collected and powerful.
Geez, if she could bring that to a dressage arena, she'd be a champion!
But, of course, those perfect steps did not go unnoticed. As soon as she passed the stallion's pastures, heads crossed over the fences, each male interested in the golden mare who gave them a good show. But each one was passed with a flick of a tail and a tossing nose. She pranced her way towards the stables, watched by each set of eyes... Bar one.
Rhys was a shy stallion, even in the face of a mare who was showing off for him, and so barely raised his head to her, watching from afar. She strutted her way into the stable block, and continued to strut about the property, demanding all eyes upon her, all the time.
She drove the stallions crazy. I was amazed that they weren't climbing over the fences to get to her, and it was clear that she loved every second of it. Rhys was the only one who kept his head down. If this were a teen movie, Rhys would be the shy boy who figured he couldn't have a chance with the hot girl because the jocks were all about her.
But that only seemed to rile her up more. It went from prancing, to downright naughtiness, squealing, whirling and whinnying in order to get the stallions to follow her movements.
My suspicions were confirmed during her first show. Rhys was more of a personal horse, I never competed with him. And, because of this, he wasn't trailered for the show. And, of course, Anya behaved like a complete angel, even snapping away the advances of the other boys.
      Quite sweet, really.
After the show, I couldn't not pasture her next to him, to see what happened. Rhys' neighbor nearly climbed the fence to just get closer to Anya, but the appaloosa stallion merely flicked an ear towards her. I retreated back towards the barn, taking a seat on a fence across the way to watch the actions unfold.
She started with a welcoming nicker, her golden head reaching as far as she could across the fence. He raised his head, whuffing out his own sort of greeting in return. But then his mottled muzzle returned to the ground, the grass beneath him more interesting than the mare herself. Unsatisfied with that outcome, she nickered again, more demanding this time. Rhys did not answer, but his neighbor, the ever-opportunistic Oran, did, watching her with eager and hopeful eyes.
But he was ignored. Rhys had captured Anya's attention, and she was not going to let him slip from her mind. The prancing began then, a high-stepping trot bringing her up and down the pasture's fence. At that, Rhys actually raised his dark head, looking to Oran, whose champagne ears were trained like a satellite to the mare's movements. It was as though the appaloosa stallion assumed that he was not the center of her attentions - but rather, his neighbor was. Rhys then turned to look at the golden mare, lowering his head again with disinterest before snapping it back up, seeming to just realize that her attentions were on him - and only him. His ears flicked back with unsurity, tail flicking lightly behind him, unsure of what to do next. And so I sat, a captive audience to what was going on, rooting for the finale of the love story that had been so long coming to a close.
It took a few moments of building up courage before Rhys approached the mare, a soft greeting and some playful flirting occurring over the fence. That then turned to games, racing and chasing each other from the opposite sides of the barrier.
From that day, whenever Anya put on a show, Rhys was the first stallion to come to attention. Because he knew that it was for him, and only him.

Show Name: Will You Miss Me?
Barn Name: Missy
Age: 5
Height: 15 hh
Halter: surprise me!
Discipline: Missy is a barrel racer
Explanation:
While i am most certainly an English rider, I ended up with Missy. Missy is a barrel racing horse that was sent to my barn for breeding purposes. She certainly loves to get the stallions relied-up, and it's kinda her job at the moment. However, we haven't put her in a pin with one yet, because we don't know which stallion to choose yet. None of our stallions will get a barrel racing horse out of them, thats just not their build. But, the owners of Missy say they don't care. For breeding purposes, she won't be able to race for a while, and she's too old anyway. The owners just want a well-bred horse, not to show, but just to have. Once we put her in with the stallion of our choice, she will be one happy girl

Show Name: Scars and Sutures
Barn Name: Rhea
Age: 5
Height: 15.2hh
Halter: (#F7E7CE) with silver buckles
Discipline: Barrel Racing
Explanation:
It's truly something seeing how easy it is to rattle someone's cage.

I mean, it's really their fault for getting so riled up, I mean, hate the player and not the game right? I should probably explain my thought process here; so buckle up kid, it's going to be a wild one.

I will say it again and not another more: it's the individual's fault for the way they react to certain events and experiences that may come their way. I am merely the catalyst, and where the reaction goes from there isn't my responsibility. So say that if I just so happened to fill a bucket of water and "accidentally" place it above the stable doors before Dorado walks through; and it just so happens to tip and drench him head to hoof, causing him to go on a complete rampage, I am not at fault for such an aggressive outcome. His actions, his repercussions to deal with. What can I say, the kid is easy to mess with, and being totally honest I thrive for the way he reacts to the pranks I pull on him. He really gets himself in a tizzy over the smallest of things. But damn, how I despise the fact he is always chosen to enter Barrel Racing contests, and not "yours truly." I will admit: the kids got guts, pulling the type of stunts he does. He's one of the only horses that can pull off some of the footwork he does, but why can't I have my time in the limelight.

So, when life instead gives you lemons. I have chosen to squeeze them back in life's eyes.

Dorado himself is a prankster by nature, his guilty pleasure being that he makes the horses around him scared of what he will try next and who his next victim may be. Therefore, it makes zero sense that he's such a horrendous sport about pranks being pulled on him! Perhaps he has a small ego? Or even better, he's jealous of the fact someone can get him back tenfold for the things he does to others. My dearest Dorado, all is fair in love and war. Just so happens that this is a war you will not win, and I will make sure of it. No use crying over a little spilled water, right?
His reaction was crazier than I had genuinely expected. He literally went from zero to one-thousand, knocking over grain bags, kicking stall doors and even going after the farm dogs in a fit of rage. At that moment he was truly red, seeking out blood and vengeance for his now sopping wet coat. I couldn't help but feel a little afraid. I have never seen Dorado so heated in my years of knowing him, and let me tell you, I probably won't involve water in the rest of my pranks. The handlers did not appreciate this rage one bit, and they even locked him in his stall for the rest of the night and up until the afternoon of the next morning. But hey, my name is on the board for the next Barrel Racing competition this coming November.

Game. Set. Match.
