Cat Name: smudgecreek
Gender: dfab
Rank: deputy
Clan: Roseclan
Age: 5 years
Prompt: when smudgecreek was an apprentice she found a strange underground tunnel. Since smudgecreek loved her sister and wanted to share the fun with her she told the other she cat about the tunnel and the two cats went inside to explore. The dark tunnel smelled damp and old. Maybe the clan could make use of this she thought to herself. Suddenly smudgecreek felt a sharp pain in her tail like somecat had bitten her! Smudgecreek tried to run but something was keeping her from moving. Smudgecreek yelled for her sister to run away in case it might be badger or fox that had her in its grasp. The calico she-cat scrambled her paws frantically in front of her, the dirt clumped under her claws making it impossible to get a good grip. Smudgecreek swung around. She felt for whatever was keeping her captive, smudgecreek could both smell and feel that the walls had caved in on top of her beautiful tail. The distant sound of roaring eachoed through the tunnel. Water was coming. She knew there was only one way to escape...with a fearful yowl smudgecreek clamped down on the base of her own tail until she heard a small pop and blood gushed into her mouth. Her eyes stinging with tears. Quickly she ran from the cave. Smudgecreek couldnt see her sister anywhere so she assumed she must have gone back to the clan. Smudgecreek went home that day with half a tail but twice the courage of the other apprentices.

stay away from the two-leg's grass-eaters. tigertail was an apprentice bounding playfully along the borders when she found herself in twolegplace. she, curious little beastie, leaped over the fence. inside she found all sorts of interesting things. a sleeping monster. a pink bird that never moved. a weird red mini-monster, turned over on its side. she investigated it. inside the was a long, sharp claw. she came closer. then a huge growl sounded from the beast and the claw spud so rapidly that it sliced of half of her tail! when she woke up a few days later in the medicine cat den, frost eye told her she had been attacked by a grasseater. a cruel machine of the twolegs. so now she warns kits. " stay away from the grasseater with its one spinning claw." she tells them.

    Prompt:
venus was born to feral parents who lived in a semi-wealthy two-legs neighborhood. for the first several weeks of her life, her and her siblings hung out under a wide porch, occasionally venturing out into the yard where they were able to explore. when they were finally spotted, they were captured and taken to a rescue, and venus was none too happy. terrified and confused, she fought against these humans, clawing and biting as they pushed her into a carrier. they unintentionally shut her tail in the door in the process, and with a yowl of pain, she finally settled down and cooperated.

while at her vet visit, they realized that her tail had been broken and the skin torn. they addressed it, but the wound progressed into a nasty infection. she was put into a foster family with many other cats, where she never felt safe. on her next vet visit, it was determined that her tail was not healing properly and it would have to be partially amputated. once having returned to her foster house, she fled, fearing that they were trying to kill her.

for several months, she struggled to relearn the art of balance and agility. she felt like she was missing something, and she was, but she slowly became accustomed to her new, short tail. now, fully grown, the thought of her tail, or that awful incident, hardly crosses her mind. she's happy in her new clan, and she's happy with where she's at in her life, regardless of her stump!

Prompt:
Well, so when I was an apprentice, me & my sis were just out trying to practice our hunting skills. It was just after our apprentice ceremony. I thought I had smelled a mouse, so I told my sis to follow me. We were following the scent when I saw a fox through the trees. I whispered to my sis, "Look, a fox!" She saw the fox, and her eyes went wide. "Let's go back and tell the leader," she whispered. I shook my head. "I'm going go scare it off our territory and let it know its not wanted here!" I said with determination. "No! You can't do that!" she whispered yelled at me. But I was already creeping toward it and ignored her. Suddenly, the fox turned and looked straight at me. At that moment I realized I should run, but my legs refused to move. The fox pounced on me, and it bit my tail real hard. Luckily, my sis then leaped on top of the fox. The fox, surprised, let go of my tail. My sis jumped off the fox and we both ran all the way to the clan entrance. When I stopped to take a breath, I realized half my tail was gone! I don't quite remember the rest, but I think the medicine cat put some herbs on my tail to stop the bleeding. Other cats went out to find the fox, but fox was nowhere to be found. I was so glad for my sis being near me that day, I never went anywhere without her for a few moons. It's hard being without my tail, but I have learned my lesson.

cat name: softpetal
gender: tom
rank: hunter
clan: the group of day and night
age: young adult

softpetal trudged along the leaf-strewn forest floor, his tail drooping and his ears flat. he had just gotten his full name, and although he had felt a sliver of pride when the leader and medicine cat had named him, it was no more than a heartbeat before he realized that they were only doing this out of pity. after all, he hadn't fit well into any of the categories available to train in. his legs too long and paws too clumsy for hunting, they had shoved softpetal into the fighting category, hoping he would build some muscle and learn the techniques. when he hadn't excelled in that, they had given him up to the healer.
they had hoped that she could put him to good use, but softpetal couldn't remember any of the herbs and being cooped up in that dark cave all day hadn't done him any good. alas, the leader had insisted softpetal stay in healing, and when the batch of that year's apprentices were ready to be named, he had let softpaw become softpetal despite his failed attempts at hunting, fighting, and healing. so now, beneath the swath of trees that was the forest, softpetal was leaving. he would find his own purpose, one with dignity and grace, one that would make him important, and not pitied upon. after the forest, there was moor, and beyond that, no cat had explored.
when softpetal had reached the border between the trees and the fields, he stopped. taking a deep breath, he turned and faced the only home he had ever known.what am i doing? he thought to himself. i don't need to say good-bye to that horrid place! i've never even liked it! he whipped around, feeling slightly guilty but accomplished. softpetal pushed his way through through the bright yellow gorse bushes, the branches raking satisfyingly through his pelt.
after he had cleared the gorse, he blinked open his eyes. his breath caught at the sight of it; the beauty. soft, green grass covered the rolling hills of the moor, purple heather and yellow gorse dotting the horizon with bursts of color. along with the bushes of heather and gorse, towering boulders adorned the hills like they were the keepers of the moor. hit with a sudden burst of energy, softpetal pelted down the slope and weaved along the moor until his paws were raw and his heart felt as though it would burst.
he lay down in the shelter of a large boulder, straining his eyes to see the forest where he had left. it looked no bigger than a string of ants, and satisfaction tingled in his pelt. i shall stay the night here, he thought. then i will set off on a journey to find my purpose. those thoughts were the last that day, as softpetal drifted asleep.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 。☼ 。. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

softpetal walked along the moor, his muscles screaming at him to stop. this was his third day of walking on the moor, and it seemed that it would never stop. the boulders on the moor no longer were towering giants, the flowers no longer blessings and the beautiful sky above him nothing but an outlet for the sun to burn his pelt. he couldn't see the forest, and even if he were to summit the tallest boulder, he would see only the moor. softpetal had been contemplating all day whether or not to just stop and live here.
taking a break to catch his breath, he realized how hungry he was. softpetal had only caught one rabbit the entire three days he had been there, and he hadn't had a sip of water. he felt as though he were going to die, and he had no idea what to do. desperate, softpetal padded to the nearest boulder, noticing it had a large crack that could provide shelter and shade. he crawled into the crack, his eyes adjusting to the shade.
his fur prickling with surprise, he looked around. it was nearly hollow! he padded to one side of the cave and felt a jolt of shock as he felt something underpaw. herbs! excitedly, he sniffed around the cave, searching for any sort of prey or water. moss! he could barely contain his excitement when he touched his nose to the moist, wet moss. he lapped up as much as he could drink, feeling his throat restore itself.
he lay down, letting out a happy mew. but a realization turned his blood to ice. if there are freshly soaked moss balls in here.. that must mean that someone was here, recently too! softpetal had been too distracted to notice the faint scent of cat inside of the cave. but as he thought about it, that cat could help him, and surely they wouldn't mind him. he drooped with relief, settling down in the cave, tired..

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 。☼ 。. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

something tapped his head. drowsily, he flicked it off, settling his head back on his paws. he was just about to drift off again he heard a grinding noise. almost.. like two rocks against eachother. another pebble dropped on his head, and the realization of what was happening shocked him like a bolt of lightning. he scrambled to his paws, panic gripping him.
looking up, the boulder had seperated from itself and was falling! his claws dug into the earth as he raced out of there, and just as softpetal's tail was about to make it out, crunch. softpetal fell to his paws, letting out a screech of agony as the boulder slammed down on his tail. panic coursed through his limbs and he took one last deep breath of air before he passed out.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 。☼ 。. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

a paw nudged him gently in the ribs. as softpetal woke up, a gentle face stared back at him.
"it looks as though my den has collapsed on your tail," she said. softpetal made an effort to scramble to his paws, only to topple back onto the ground, tethered to the rock by his broken tail. guiltily, softpetal looked up at the she-cat, hoping his eyes reflected how sorry he was.
"please, help me. i'm in pain, please, i was thirsty, and your cave-" he was cut off as she mewed,
"no need to fret, young one. sure, it might be a loss to my group, but it was merely a storage cave. now," she paused to examine his tail, "it looks as though we may have to amputate it."
softpetal winced as she began to clean the wound, but his mind was too busy to pay any more attention to his wound than that.
"you- you said you had a.. group?" he mewed, curious.
"like, a clan? is there more cats?"
"yes, we have a group. our camp is just beyond that dip in the hill, sheltered by gorse. but anyways, i may as well introduce myself.
my name's robinsong."

"i'm softpetal," he mewed. he was going to try and strike up a conversation, but as he opened his mouth to speak, robinsong cut him off- again.
"i'm going to go fetch some poppy seeds, softpetal. they will ease your pain, as well as put you to sleep and releive your shock." she hurried off before he could say anything. when the she-cat returned she nudged a few poppy seeds towards him, and softpetal lapped them up without question.
the made him drowsy, and before long, he was asleep.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 。☼ 。. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

when softpetal woke up, he was in a dimly lit, earthy looking den, with a stream trickling through and the sharp scent of herbs. he shifted his paws, pushing them up against a mossy nest lined with wool. he reached his paws out, stretching, and surprise jolted through him when he realized he no longer had his tail to balance him. before long, a plump, back-lit figure appeared in the den. it was robinsong.
"oh, you're awake! welcome, softpetal, to the group of day and night," she said.

i really loved this story, especially how your incorporated your clan and cats into it.
i could tell how much work you put into this and it was beautifully written !
congratulations on winning softpetal!
please private message me to clarify his gender, because since he is a calico, he can't be male unless
it's specified on his form that he is a gender other than his designated gender (female) at birth.
so transgender, non binary, etc. ! <3
