Reference PhotoStory:“Looks like the old idiot’s at it again. What is he even
doing?”
Ayase squinted in curiosity to try and get a better view herself, but she made sure to still check
Hephaestus’ shoulder in reprimand, and snorted at the young stallion. Despite being her size, he still yelped and balked at her offhand ire. Ayase turned to Hephaestus. “Hephae, show some respect to your elders!”
“But Ayase, you’re seeing the
same thing I’m seeing!
Why is he disturbing that robin’s nest?! Doesn’t he know that tree’s always infested with bees this time of year?”
The harried matriarch sighed and dipped her head. “Why does he do
anything, honestly,” she grumbled under her breath, but then said aloud, “I’m pretty sure he just wants to investigate… the robins?” Ayase’s voice upticked in question, and her eyes widened at what she was witnessing. Small flies started to dart around the old stallion as he stood on his front limbs against the tree and, wait, those were definitely not flies. Bees, those were bees. How is he even supporting himself up in those branches…?
Both the matriarch and her adopted colt tilted their heads curiously as they watched the scene unfold. Circios slowly gripped the delicate bird nest in his teeth while the angry bees tried to penetrate his stubborn hide. Was he trying to move the nest to a safer tree, right after he disturbed a bee’s nest? Just… wow.
“Is he allergic to bees?” Hephae mumbled at Ayase. The matriarch’s expression screwed up in discomfort.
“Let’s hope not.”

Personality: Circios is completely unrepentant about his flaws. As a former war horse, he was lauded for his brutal efficiency, mental fortitude, and even protective fighting capabilities on the battlefield, but nowadays he cites his old age for his waning skills. The curious thing is that he’s still as strong as he ever was and his mind is just as sharp, but laziness has turned this unstoppable force into somewhat of a laughing stock and source of amusement for younger generations. He doesn’t seem to care much at all either, as evidenced by how he’s let his once pristine coat become scruffy and unkempt by choice (especially since the only time he becomes purposefully light-footed nowadays is to avoid grooming day— the old boy turns it into a game of sorts). Mud is his preferred method of cooling off where his herd would prefer cleaner dust, so it’s not uncommon to smell Circios before you see him. It’s such a shame, too— even with his age, Circios would be devastating to any horse he came across, mare or stallion… you know, if he wasn’t such a slob.
Besides his more… unsavory habits, Circios can be quite the jester. Dry humor lands him quick friends and interesting stories about his past are a hit with the foals in his herd (provided he bathes before he tells the stories). Even for an intact stallion, he’s extremely benevolent to other stallions he comes across, and as an unthreatening presence he’s become a key figure within his herd in order to make the presence of so many stallions possible within one group. Working alongside the herd’s matriarch has gradually made him the herd’s unofficial protector, even when he’d rather roll in the grass than stand alert as instincts would command him to do (he’ll leave the vigilance to the younger stallions, thank you.). However, he’s never formally accepted the title, and it has a great deal to do with his past as a war horse.
Despite Circios’ lackadaisical approach to life, this old stallion is undeniably protective of his loved ones, and discipline from war times means he wouldn’t dare cut corners when a precious life is on the line. His history as a war horse exposed him to death from an early age, however, and he hesitates to command a leadership position once more due to the war herd he failed as a young stallion. Circios can’t fully say he ever recovered from his loss, but now he’s trying to make up for it in any way that he can. But giving his new herd a head stallion that failed in the past? That is one thing that Circios would never do.
Nonetheless, Circios is one of the first ones to stand sentry at the first sign of danger, and he doesn’t take kindly to intruders looking to do harm to his beloved herdmates. His herdmates annoy him like nothing else sometimes, but he’d be damned before anything lay a hand on his group while there’s still breath in his lungs.
