Holy - PVRIS -
LyricsYeah, you've got it all, But you've got it all wrong. --- These two lines draw back to her life as a feral cat in the city streets. She thinks she's happy and satisfied, but behind her facade she is miserable and empty.
You make it seem that you feel whole, So they don't know. --- These lines relate to what she did to try to fill that gap. She learned the ways of medicine and healing and began treating other street cats to help them, causing her to be held as almost an idol.
You're a poor unfortunate soul. --- Despite the affection from others and how they treat her, the empty feeling remains in her heart and she begins to grow bitter.
Yeah you put on a faith facade, Think you're holy when you're not. --- She is met by
Duskfall who invites her to his clan as a med cat. She accepts, but as he tells her about their beliefs the bitterness in her heart grows and becomes pointed to StarClan.
You can right all the wrongs just to feel you belong, --- She works with Cinderclan as a healer and gets to know its residents. Upon learning of Duskfall's past actions, she grows upset with him and the others forgiving him so simply.
But simply calling out sins don't bring you closer to God. --- She grows frustrated with the clan - particularly
Cedarstar. The leader points out when she strays from the code constantly and Leafshine begins to despise her.
You're just a ghost at most, A set of empty bones, Searching for anything and everything to make you feel whole, --- These three lines are referring directly to Leafshine. Despite her new life and her new purpose, she still feels empty and frustrated, always chasing new things to try and fill that gap in her chest.
Oh you're all alone, You poor unfortunate soul. You can't control where your body lets you go. --- Frustrated with her clan, she left and moved to the North, looking for something new, the gap in her chest pulling her forward
And you say that I've got it all wrong. 'Cause you just know I'm a poor unfortunate soul. --- It is at this point that she finds the Pool of Dreams and witnesses StarClan in person
But there's no way that there's weight in the words that you preach, --- She grows frustrated with them and believes they are little more than old cats with delusional minds who try to control the world they left
When you're claiming your faith and you contradict your speech. --- She speaks out against them, but notices how she is contradicting herself. She curses these cats for listening to the words of ghosts, when the ghost in her chest is what leads most of her actions.
Cause you're a ghost at most, A set of empty bones, Searching for anything and everything to make you feel whole, --- As this line repeats, she is reminded of that painful emptiness in her chest and how lost she truly is
Oh you're all alone, You poor unfortunate soul. --- She begins to open her mind at this point, accepting the idea of hearing others beliefs and seeking a new way to fill that gap other than wandering
You're shallow and empty and filled with regret. --- She returns to her clan, regretful for leaving and speaking to them in the way she did. She speaks with Cedarstar, asking for forgiveness and is granted.
I think that chest must be heavy from that cross on your neck. --- She listens closer when StarClan is discussed now, though she tries her best not to let others see it.
You only wear 'cause you're wary of what comes next after your death. --- This shows her struggle for believing StarClan. The only primary causes she has for learning of them is the emptiness and a subtle fear of the afterlife, but she has yet to find a genuine cause to place faith in the dead cats.
And you've got it all (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul) You've got it all wrong (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul) --- She reflects on her life and how she has plenty of food, clan mates, and shelter, yet the emptiness remains.
No you'll never know, never know, never know (poor unfortunate so-o-o-oul) --- Finally, in an act of desperation, she turns to Duskfall and tells him about the emptiness within. He advises her to make frequent visits to the Pool of Dreams to discuss with StarClan about her position and that she places her focus in her work.
Don't think I didn't notice. --- She does as he says and the emptiness becomes lighter, and the frustration and irritation within her mind releases its grip and happiness finally begins to set in. She recognizes this and the first, genuine spark of faith in StarClan is illuminated within her.
