Res with the fact that he's a shady fortune teller who also sells "charmed" and "cursed' objects. Everyone thinks hes a fraud but all the objects do as they are supposed to. Although, much like a djinn, he enjoys tricking people. So while the objects do as he says they will, they do so at a price.

the lovers - she flips the card over, a shimmering piece, indicating adam and eve before the fall. her friend, who recently got into a relationship, looks at her with happy tears in her eyes. she sprints out of the room yelling about marriage.

the devil - the card shows itself in her hand, laying alone in the middle of the table. her patron, her friend, snorts, obviously skeptical. he pays her kindly, and walks out without a second glance. although, she hears that, a week later, he has quit his job and moved to las vegas to follow his dreams.

the empress - the card barely even flips over before her friend runs out of the room. she doesn't want children. she wants life to stay the way it is. five years down the road, zelda meets her again, with a child on her hip and another on the way. she seems to be glowing.

the moon - a friend enters seeking advice on religion. when he sees this card, he turns away, and locks himself in his room to think for a week. when he goes in, he cries out to god; when he emerges, he is a new man. he has never seemed more soothed.

the fool - almost on a verge of a panic attack, a friend enters seeking help. he leaves without the weight sitting on his shoulders; it sits by zelda's side, untouched, unmoving. she carries it with pride.

death - she has only shown this card to a friend once. she looked at zelda solemnly, as though she already knew the card. without giving zelda a chance to speak, she said simply, "it is my fate," and walked out facing the great unknown.

The girl with the wild hair and the crazy ideas. Doubling as a Chemical Engineer college student, as well as a small cafe waitress. She's the type to spend her days dreaming away, dancing from one table to the next with her notepad in her clutch. Often seen wearing a large sun hat and a cheery smile.

Joelle's relationship with others is innocent and sweet, she's that coffee shop girl who always seems to smell like sweet bakery goods right out the oven and ready to eat. She's pure and most people know it; easy going and carefree. But on the occasion- easily taken advantage of, easily swayed and easily swept off her own two feet.

Her sweetness is often reciprocated, however, the relationships are almost never deeper than that. The girl is nothing more than a sweet, innocent waitress at the local cafe, and most people know that. She's as sweet as the sweets she serve to the customers, but what else is there to know?

From the outside, looking in, she has many.

But from the inside, looking out, she is missing many.

Lonely.

The relationships only skin deep.

margaret desperately runs a brush through her tangled, wild hair. the bristles are falling out, the result of many other unsuccessful attempts at taming it. when she finally gives up, there are about two less knots than when she'd started, which was a rather respectable accomplishment, considering its condition. she's dressed in an expensive black suit, her only "fancy" outfit, and one she'd been ever so careful to preserve. she'd wore it only twice before, once for a wedding, and once for a funeral, and though her current occasion was neither of those, it still seemed a fitting time for it to be pulled from the closet.

maggie's driving was a few miles over the speed limit, but she couldn't have been bothered to slow down. in just a few minutes, she'd be late, and as everyone knows, that makes for a rather poor first impression. finally, the ratty old station wagon slows as she pulls up to her destination. the restaurant, called Mike's, was practically ancient, it's only piece of technology being a sputtering air conditioner that rarely worked. remarkably, though, the building was in tact after it's 50 years of standing. a passerby from out of town would pay no mind to the place, but all the locals know that its food is to die for - sometimes literally.

she pulls open the door with shaky paws, glances around, and sits down at an empty table. a few kalons are seated at the booth,
and they glance up only briefly as she enters, quickly turning their attention away before eye contact could be made. though she was sitting by herself, she seems far from lonely. in fact, she looks to be having an animated conversation with the vacant chair across from her. speaking, watching, nodding and smiling. from a different angle, one could easily assume her eager questions had a recipient. of course, maggie is not really talking to herself. she is on a date.


margaret payne is a well-known paranormal investigator in the tiny town of Accident. of it's 63 residents, she is probably the most interesting, and at the same time, most feared. she's never murdered anyone, robbed a bank, or committed a real crime, but her claims of speaking with the dead are enough to receive wary glances and and an uneasy shifting of eyes. it's not difficult to assume she'd be lacking friends, but according to her, the ghosts are all the company she needs. maggie runs a business specializing in encounters with these companions from beyond the grave, but it hasn't seen a client since the day it started. nonetheless, she manages to keep her life together with what little she has. next time you're passing through, though, if you swear you see movement where there's none, or hear whispers from an empty room, she definitely wouldn't mind a visit.
