HillsideClanPromptRussetwind’s worst memory was an absolute shame, and almost ended the cat before she got to adulthood.
Our story began when they were a young kit, being born to a street cat in an oasis of trees surrounded by buildings that scraped the sky. She was an unprepared mother, and left as soon as the kits were weaned. All the kits were blindsighted by the mother’s disappearance, and were absolutely unprepared for life on their own. The few of them who were lucky to have made it would beg and beg each passerby, and the eating was great until a human shouted and chased them away. As night crept up on them, many of her siblings were taken. She didn’t understand it at the time, but it wasn’t long until she was completely alone in this wide oasis.
She became scared, Soon hunger hit once more. She mewled at everyone passing by, but it wasn’t until she traipsed up to a she-human sitting on a bench that she was fed. At first she was nervous, for the human urged that she had to eat from her paw. The meat smelled juicy and delicious, and in the end her stomach won over her common sense. She accepted the tidbit, devouring it in a matter of moments, and was soon seeking more. The human was eager to share, and after getting her stomach full, the kit fell quickly asleep curled up next to the She human.
The next morning, she awoke to the smell of burning. Her eyes flashed open, and what befell her was nothing short of a heart attack. She was surrounded by walls as high as she could imagine. Objects of every size and shape littered shelves and tabletops, and jars lined the walls filled all sorts of dried plants. As soon as she saw the she-human, she yowled in need, and ran over to her to hide. Of course the She-human consoled her, petting and murmuring sweet nothings until the kitten was absolutely soothed.

Over the next several months, so many wonderful and miraculous things happened in the kits life! She was given the name of Gazzet! She found that the she-girl was in fact a Wiccan who practiced the most peculiar thing; magic! She did strange and wounderous things called ‘spells’ and eventually used Gazzet’s help in them! The She-witch began referring to Gazzet as a ‘familliar,’ whatever that meant, but she was very much loved by her witch. She thought less and less of her past family as the days went on. Even the face of her mother was forgotten. All was going well in her life! Or so she thought.
One night, while her Wiccan was setting up for strange, new spell, disaster struck. A candle left unattended tipped just enough to catch an old dusty book afire, and the rest of the bookshelf went up with it. Smoke soon filled every room and was unavoidable. The She-Wiccan grabbed Gazzet and made for a door- any door. The smoke had to be too much for her- it was for Gazzet especially, and once they got outside, her wiccan feinted right there on the lawn. The sounds of sirens could he herd coming closer, and as the flashing lights turned the corner, Gazzet panicked and dashed. She was still just a kit, not knowing one way from another and became lost in the rows and rows of houses.
A column of smoke guided her home when she finally found the courage to return, having hid under another house for several hours, but as she returned, she truely saw the destruction. Her home was a blackened shell and her human was gone. Gazzet had no clue where to go or what to do. She couldn’t look for her human, or go off on her own. She didn’t know how to care for herself.
She wandered around aimlessly for days until she found a toupe of cats that came to see what was producing the smoke. They were from a place far beyond the human’s world and invited Gazzet to come if she’s could handle the rough life. What choice did she have? She had no home, no no skills, and no human to protect her. In the end, she agreed. She followed the cats to heir hillside home and was soon given the new name of Russetpaw. She diligently learned how to care for herself so never again would she have to rely on anyone else to take care of her. Much less a human.
