"Is this the right place?" A soft, small voice questioned.

There was no response but this wasn't strange to her. The small viscling rarely received a reply when she asked these questions. Though considering she was asking a higher power, it was understandable that the responses would be either delayed or not at all.

"She's all alone, roaming this unforgiving city." There was a quiet sigh as the viscling floated closer to the lost, young viscling. "She's thin and her mother's nowhere in sight." She fell silent a moment as she 'heard' a response from her deity. "The poor girl. This is why you sent me here, isn't it? To find a place for this young one just as I did before?" Again there was no response but she took the silence as a tentative yes.

Carefully the pink viscling stepped around the sleeping frame of the viscling she'd been sent to rescue. She laid down gently beside her, resting her head on her paws. For tonight, she'd keep her warm but when the morning came she would have to steer her out of this awful city and find her a guardian. Someone who would protect and keep her safe.

Extra 3: Snippet 2

Traveling was slow and dangerous in the city. Kalilah had to be cautious as she tried to lead and steer this orphan viscling, named Hazel, out and to safety. Many times through this journey, Kalilah had wished her deity had spoken to her, given her advice or some direction to go in but she knew that was not the way of the gods. It was her job as the demi-goddess to be the hands that worked on her goddess' behalf.

It felt like a long time before Kalilah was finally able to steer Hazel out of the city completely and into the outskirts where it was a lot less dangerous. There were new dangers but most of those were easier for Kalilah to scare off without alerting Hazel of her helping presence. She refused to leave Hazel until she was secured with someone who could watch over her.

It was then that she first saw him. A hulking viscet who was also wandering the outskirts and tall grass. At first, Kalilah thought she should chase him off somehow. But after watching him a short while she determined she had found the perfect protector for Hazel, someone who would love her.
