Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sentient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

F I V E | things i can see
One, my own pale hands, blue paint still creating watercolour art that pops against its light background, and though they shake they are still beautiful. Two, various knick knacks from both recent years and my childhood alike, sitting in their exact spots upon my bookshelf, looking down at me from their perch. Three, the fur of my cat still curled at the foot of my bed, though she isn’t sleeping anymore, we stare at one another in the dim light and she blinks, silently tells me she understands, and it helps. Four, the knitted blanket thrown across the rock tile floor, tossed aside in my sleep hazed panic. Five, the window panes, open wide for the crisp early summer air to pass through.

F O U R | things i can touch
One, my hands slide over the slate flooring, grazing the bumps and imperfects that I see much like my own. Two, my hair, too soft and falling in my eyes like snow even as I try to hopelessly push it back. Three, the coolness of the wall against my back, hard and chilled but grounding. Four, the wetness on my cheeks that is slowly fading as the leftover tears sink into my skin.

T H R E E | things i can hear
One, my own breathing, still audible as it bounces off the empty edges of the room, but calmer, I notice, than when I started counting. Two, the gentle /swish, swish/ of the silk curtains swaying as wind pushes through the window, they dance so elegantly in the early morning light. Three, the hum of the street lamps outside, like they are saying farewell before the sun breaks over the mountain and they can click off and enjoy their own rest.

T W O | things i can smell
One, fresh linens, cotton to be exact, the ones I washed yesterday and placed over my mattress, the smell of laundry detergent and cleanliness still hangs in the air around them. Two, dew, wet grass before the world wakes up and the sun dries the moisture, the distinct naturistic smell of dawn.

O N E | thing i can taste
One, peppermint from scrubbing my teeth clean hours ago, the mint itself does something to spark me back to reality, if only just a little part in the bigger role of this exercise.

The anxiety never really goes away, but it fades, it subsides and the feeling is like coming up for air after living a century underwater.

Explanation | The grounding mechanism I chose to
write about from the view of this Kalon I believe is called the 5-4-3-2-1 coping method? I chose this because I was told about it by a therapist a few years ago and it has proven to be the only grounding exercise that actually helps me, someone diagnosed with anxiety and OCD. Of course things work different for everyone and what works for me might not work for you, I speak only of my own experience in my own unique situation. ♡

how they deal with anxiety [500 word limit]: I actually deal with anxiety myself, so I'm basing this story off of me!
Faun is a kalon who is anxious all the time, his anxiety prevents him from doing things a normal kal would, such as socializing, or making friends. He deals with it by drawing, and pushing himself to get better, constantly. Every time he draws he tries something new, whether it be testing a new eye style or ear style. He'll sometimes hurt the muscles in his hands and wrists from drawing so much. When he can't draw for and reason his anxiety levels rise to about uncontrollable, so he forces himself to pick up something to draw with and somewhere to draw on, whether it be digital, traditional, or on something like a piece of furniture. His dream is to make himself a widely known artist who is known for skill, and since he draws so much, his dream may be accomplished sooner rather than later.

    Ever since he was a kit, Marcus had dealt with a longing fear of being alone. This fear had only developed as he grew older. He found himself distanced from any other kalon, all except for his mother. That was his only hope, until a fateful day. He had learned of something that changed his life daily. His mother contracted a deadly disease, and had no chance of surviving. This was it. He was going to be alone now, and nothing could stop it. His fears were overwhelming him, turning his hopes and dreams into darkness. He couldn't see the light anymore. His life was changing before his eyes, and he had no one else to look to.

    He could never forget the words she said before passing away, however.

    Those were the words which pushed him forward. A thought had glistened through his mind. Although his mother may have not been with him anymore, there was something he would always have. Memories. The thoughts of his fondest times with his mother is always something that he can relax with, thinking over and over about how those memories made him happy. With the thoughts of better times, he realizes memories can only make him stronger.

how they deal with anxiety [500 word limit]: How Aurora would deal with anixiety is before any type of public or things like taht that would give them anxiety they would go into a secluded area where nobody is and talk to the nature, then they would meditate and become one with their surroundings. It dosent help with all the anxiety but it keeps them chill.

Tenet is a quiet, shy kalon. However- he has an amazing knack for origami. Specifically paper stars- when he was younger he used to craft them to distract his busy hands and racing thoughts. Tenet has hidden them around his rural village, bringing a smile to anyone who may find them. He now dedicated his time to creating a world full of his creations- a world for his stars to light. He’s a small merchant of sorts, his wares? Stories. Creatures. He has the ability to make his creations life-like... moving if you will. He fascinated those around him and enjoys storytelling in his home village. Though he is still rather shy, the village loves him dearly. Tenet can often be seen at night... whether paying homage to the stars or crafting new stories to tell. His secret to making origami so lifelike? fishlining. He uses his origami most nearly as paper puppets- though he’d never admit it to passerby
