Kinder Spirit
Regulating a coffee shop used to seem like a foreign idea to her, but now that she'd been frequenting this one, it didn't seem like such a odd thing to do. Especially since the establishment offered free wifi, had comfortable chairs, a nice table by the window, and was visited most days by a mostly blue viscet she'd come to know as Oren, who'd often times bring or buy her treats. She'd been suspicious about his intentions at first, but after confronting him, found that he was just a stressed out viscet who gave sweets to others he thought were either sad or upset, as a means of brightening their day as well as easing his anxiety. Almost in spite of her desire to keep an emotional distance, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness whenever he was too busy to stop by the shop. One Saturday he surprised her by coming in with a pair of young viscets, who after receiving the drinks Oren had bought them, ran out the door saying they'd be at the arcade.
"You didn't tell me you were a dad." She stated as he walked towards the exit.
"I don't tell strangers lots of things." He said, stopping to chat.
"Stranger? I'm hurt." Her ears lowered as though she were offended.
"My apologies. What should I call you? A kindred spirit?" He asked. Her brow furrowed as she considered what labeling their relationship as a kinder spirit meant. On one paw, there was no emotional attachment required to be so, but on the other he became one step away from being someone she deeply cared about. It'd been while since she'd gotten close to anyone, about half a year to be some what exact. After her brother passed away, she'd kinda drifted from those she'd cared about. Not because she wanted things to be easier if they passed, although that would have been a good reason. No it was due to a fight she'd started with her mother for not convincing him to stay at her house rather than head for home when after hearing that particularly bad snowstorm was coming in. She shut her eyes tightly, trying to force the thought away. She'd been alone for awhile now... And yet it somehow didn't feel right to let someone else in, but maybe that's what a kinder spirit is for.

The beginning of an obsession
Kaylee's search for immortality stems from the loss of her father when she was very young. At first she didn't understand why no one would wake him or quite frankly why he was in such a small box-the man was claustrophobic after all. She'd gone crazy, shaking him when others refused to do so, screaming as her grandfather peeled her off of his son-in-law and carried her out of room. He told her that he and her grandmother were going to be there for her for the next few weeks, what her father had wanted them to do with his body after he died, and how death wasn't necessarily the end. Unable to grasp death not being the end, Kaylee's thoughts were swarmed with the image of her father either rotting in the ground or being turned to ash via fire. She blubbered uncontrollably, her grandfather tried to comfort her by telling her that everyone dies and that she just have to spend as much time with those she loved while they were here, but ended up making the experience much more traumatic for her. A few weeks of doing whatever they could to help Kaylee feel better, and her grandparents were on a plane back to their small home on the other side of the country, leaving Kaylee to sob herself to sleep with only her mother to comfort her. Unable to deal with her own emotions, her mother busied herself with her work, often times not coming home until it was time to tuck her in. It was during that time when Kaylee decided to find a means of achieving immortality, so that she'd never have to loose anyone again.
