Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

random fact; when the sun is low on the horizon during sunrises and sunsets, the sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere. shorter wavelength colors (blues and violets) get scattered (small particles, droplets or molecules in our atmosphere causing light to change direction) out. this leaves more of the longer wavelength colors like yellow, orange, and red. this is why sunrises often take on such colors.

Facts about Okapis (Because aah, they are such beautiful creatures!):

• Although Okapis' patterns resemble one of a zebra's, the creature is more closely related to giraffes!

• Okapis have scent glands on each foot that leave behind a tar-like substance to communicate their territory.

• They can lick their own ears! The okapi’s tongue measures between 14 and 18 inches long. They use it to wrap around leaves on which they feed, as well as to groom themselves and their calves. The tongue of an okapi is long enough for the animal to wash its eyelids.

The feel of grass beneath my feet,
The warm glow of the sun becomes obsolete.
Winds sweep through the prairies, carrying leaves through the air,
The stream gentley rushes, a peaceful sound, it shares.

Under the stars is where my head lays,
Watching the disappearing sun, as I do everyday.
Within my head, within my mind;
Home is a place that's hard to find.

Home of my heart, land of my birth,
There I lay on the flame-colored Earth.
The Savanna calls me, and it's where I stay,
The peaking of the sun, reflecting on the bay.

Home of my heart, land of my birth,
Africa is my home, a lush desert.
I am an okapi, standing wild and free,
The peace of the plains call me!


Maua's favorite song is The Circle of Life

Maua is an out-going, caring, down-to-earth Kalon with lots of curiosity. She believes that she should keep her heritage going by telling kits about some of the legends her elders used to tell her. Ever summer, Maua hosts a camp teaching other Kalons about the wonders of the Savannas!
