Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

"You can't spell happiness without pain,"
His family would say to him
"You can't have a rainbow without rain."
But even so his world was dim

Each night while he had dreamed
They hated him, or so it seemed
He always awoke, tears in his eyes
Believing their words to be empty lies

Waking up, he saw that it was late
He realized he could no longer face
The family he had grown to hate
And with a heavy heart, he left that place

Soon he found he missed them all
The family who always broke his fall
But when he turned back to his old home
He saw too many twists that he did roam

With nowhere else in mind to go
He wandered for hours, feeling low
An orphanage did he eventually find
To him the the Kalons were very kind

Days passed and still he found
From no family he had heard a sound
The orphanage knew of his sorrow
"Wait at the old oak tree tomorrow."

What they had told of him he did obey
Waiting still he felt unbearable pain
Until familiar voices he he did hear say,
"You can't have a rainbow without rain."

The fire burns low,
And I am left alone with my thoughts.
They swirl, tempest-like,
Consuming me from the inside out.
I let them in,
Those lowly, desperate intruders.

Their judgement sears,
marking my fragile mind like a brand.
Hollowing me,
Turning me into an empty husk.
Empty is safe,
With nothing inside, I can't be hurt.

Yet they remain,
Guarding what I cannot understand.
And, silently,
The sentinels begin to topple.
Tears are falling,
Cascading down my contorted face.

The chaos reigns,
Slowly, my mind is torn asunder.
I am fragments,
A broken version of who I was.
My song is done,
My harmony is long since vanished.

Sadness isn't clean cut,
depression can't be cured with a pat on the back,
it feels as though the dam to my joy has been shut,
yet folks say I just slack,
That I need to get over it.

I feel feel empty, and yet,
I am filled with self-hatred and tears.
But please, don't fret,
I can't take that guilt from my peers,
Even if you only mean the best for me.

The worst sadness of all is one,
that seemingly has no cause,
You can never find a solution and be done,
The depression will never pause,
Leaving an ongoing battle 'till you bite the dust.

I will smile, I will chuckle,
But in truth it is all an act,
I do not know when my mind will buckle,
Eventually it will, that's a fact.
I hope you're not there to see me when it does.

I broke the boundaries of time, space
