Sunlight is for suckers!

There's a clicking from the fan seated precariously on the edge of her nightstand. Another whirs pathetically beside it as if it is merely a few moments from giving up. Bailey has draped herself over the thin mattress in the bare minimum of acceptable clothing. Spring has sprung into early summer which calls for warm weather, ice cream, and the inevitable sour attitude of a certain Miss Fairfax. No matter what she does it is impossible to stay cool under these conditions. Her biweekly check from her fast food job doesn't allow her enough to pay for legitimate air conditioning; it is either buy five or more half-working fans to make the air somewhat breathable and the electric bill higher or suffer in the throes of another heatwave.

A sigh escapes her lips. This earth is surely a curse. It is unknown what she must have done in a previous life to deserve this sort of poor treatment but she'd do anything to live during this season with bliss. One of the fans twists to blow cool air onto her face. It ruffles her hair the slightest bit and then it turns away again. Her tongue darts out to wet her lips briefly. In her mind she envisions herself diving into a cool, crystalline pool. The water rushes around her and chills her overheated form. After a few lovely moments she is brought back to reality. It seems one of her fans has finally perished.

Bailey twists onto her stomach to watch the machine's final few splutters of life. The blades swing softly before stopping with a gentle creak. Perhaps, she thinks, it is not her bad doings; it could in fact simply be the blasted city. She stands to fling open the window curtains, her brows furrowing as she gazes upon the sprawling beaches of Miami, Florida. Down by the shoreline kits run about chasing each other or making sandcastles. She watches as one kit falls onto the creation of another, the artist beginning to cry at the loss of their precious masterpiece. While the kits are comforted by their parents Bailey moves to get herself dressed. Where there is a broken fan there must be a replacement!

She slides her thin wallet into the back pocket of her jeans before braving the outside world. The sun blinds her and sand catches itself into her fur. The journey to the store is a short but somewhat annoying one. Left and right are sweaty kalons that cannot maintain their own personal space. Once she makes it inside she gives the clerk her wad of bills, escaping with her fan in tow. At home it is set up with ease.

Finally the contraption starts up with refreshing air being distributed through the small space. A smile works its way onto her lips. Despite the thick, sweaty pelt and the nearly unbearable heat waves, some things during the warm season can be somewhat relaxing. Bailey curls upon her bed and falls asleep to the comforting whirring of her fans.
