Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

This poor bab was dropped off today since their owner thought they were a wolf-dog. While understandable, they are just a Czechoslovakian Vlcak. They seem to have an adventurous soul and have gotten out of their cage a few times. You might have heard a few stories from our staff on your way here.

Escape!: Ah, never mind. So, there was one on tv about this dog that would escape from the yard, so they tried all these things to pen her in and nothing worked, but I am going to go with one from my own work. So, there were two dogs there that were good friends, named Chloe and...something that started with an N. Well, whenever N would be put out in the yard with Chloe and other dogs, she would always open the gate and let the other dogs out. She had learnt how to get her nose in somewhere and shove, and as a result the gate would then open, and the one person that was supposed to watch them obviously asn't, because this happened a few times. Thankfully, it seems most of the dogs would stay put near the yard or the building, but there was a hound named Anna (called Anna Banana by us) who would run off at any chance, she happened to be in the yard a few times when this happened and got away. Thankfully, she comes back by dinner, or can be found if she gets caught on something while running.

Escape!: This dog (I completely forgot their name) was a true Houdini. She'd escape out of anything her owner put her in. When he'd leave to go to work, or wherever, he put her in a closed off area in his backyard he made for her to be in until he got back, but she'd just keep escaping. At first she'd just jump up and turn the knob of the door and walk right out. After he tied the door to the wall, she'd squeeze herself through the small opening between the bottom of the door and the ground. When he placed bricks in front of the door, she'd squeeze through the gaps of chicken wire and the ground. When he placed planks of wood in front of those gaps, she'd jump up and go through the gaps between the chicken wire and the makeshift ceiling. There's just no stopping her, you find one solution and she just finds a whole new route of escape.

EDIT: I just realized that I actually have an escape story from my very own dog! I have no idea how I forgot, basically when we first got her she had a habit of squeezing under the fence in our backyard. If you lost sight of her for even a second she'd slip under the fence and run away. We tried combatting this by placing planks of wood in front of the gaps, but she found gaps at the very far end that we had missed. Again she'd keep running away. Eventually she either grew a bit too big to do it anymore, or she just didn't have the urge to escape anymore because we haven't had an incident like that in quite a few years. (Ignore the first story if you want, I'm on mobile and didn't feel like having to delete that large block of text.)

Escape!: This dog named Maggie, a mother dog, escaped from her kennel to comfort crying puppies. This dog managed to wriggle through her cage and ran around, looking for the crying puppies. After finding them, she pushed herself through the cage and slept with the puppies, to comfort them for the night.

Escape!: I knew someone who had a dog that they left in a back room while they went our for an hour or so. When they came back, the dog had chewed through the door to escape, but ended up jumping out a partially open window when the hole wasn't large enough! They found the dog on the road before they had even reached their house!
