PersonalityRanger's personality is...quite difficult to sum up. Depending on the situation, many would describe him differently. But his true personality is really just a lonely and desperate guy with no other source of income then to steal. Not straight up stealing, but cheating people out of their money. He doesn't do it because of greed, but for a much bigger cause. Deep down, he's a sweet guy. Of course, he doesn't show it. Not anymore.
(76 words)Short StoryRain poured down from the dark sky, soaking Ranger to the bone. But he couldn't stop. Not now. He sped down the sidewalk, nearly slipping on the slippery pavement. He skidded to a stop at the corner of the street. A streetlamp flickered high above his head. Not a car in sight. Ranger couldn't decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing. On one paw, he could quickly cross the road without having to wait for traffic. On the other paw, no one would be there to save him from getting attacked on the corner of Delta Boulevard. Pawsteps pounding behind him made up his mind. Quick as a flash, he raced across the street and reached the other side. Wind and rain stung his eyes, but he kept going.
Ranger was fast, but his soaked fur was beginning to take its toll. The water weighed him down, not to mention the bag of cash hanging from his waist, and he was forced to a slow jog. Now don't get him wrong. He wasn't a thief or anything. Not a nasty one anyway. Okay, so sometimes he was a nasty thief. But this time, Ranger just happened to strike a deal with the wrong people. Nothing, especially the stupid rain, was going to stop him. Then he was on the ground. Another kalon had tackled him from behind, and Ranger winced upon hearing his own leg crack under their weight. Pain shot up his leg, and he had to steady his breathing to remain calm.
"Hand it over, scum," the kalon said right into his ear. "And no one gets hurt." Dirty liar. He had just broken Ranger's leg.
"We made a deal," Ranger hissed through the pain. "It's mine and you know it." He let out a cry as the kalon sat down hard, putting all his weight on the broken leg.
"Come on, Ranger. Just give it to me." Blech. The dude really needed to brush his teeth.
"No." Ranger needed the money to get that plane ticket. It was his only chance.
"Fine." The kalon stood up. "We'll do this the hard way. You have three more legs right there for the breaking.
Ranger wanted to protest, but he knew it was over. Biting back the pain, he rolled over onto his back to reveal the small sack of cash. "Whatever. Take it."
The greedy kalon snatched up the satchel and slung it around his neck. "Good decision. Next time I won't go so easy on you." He walked away, leaving him there in the pouring rain.
It was a long time, hours maybe, before Ranger saw movement across the road. His aching leg wasn't letting up, and he knew walking wasn't an option. "Help," he called softly. The kalon looked over and rushed to him.
Before he blacked out, Ranger managed to catch what the kalon said. "Oh my. We need to get you back home and fixed up right away!"
