My Name Is; Sorrë (Albanian for crow, my pronunciation: so-ray, Sor for short! )
I'm a ♀
Relationship with brother;
'Hurry up Pen! The sun's almost down!' Sor paced outside impatiently. Her wings were itching to fly, but her mother wouldn't let her go without her 'older' brother, Pendë. Older, schmolder. Not even a minute between us! But she did admit that Pen was the more responsible one, though she was definitely the more fun one! Pen couldn't go to a party alone without running away and hiding in a dark corner. What would he do without me then, huh?
'Hold your pups, I'm coming!' Sor's brother stepped out, calling back to his mum 'Yes, Ma! We'll be back before sundown!' Then he turned to her, his eyes staring into her identical ones. It was a good thing he was a boy, because otherwise you almost wouldn't be able to tell them apart. 'You ready?'
'I've been ready since I was born!'
'Well, let's go then! Race you to the big tree!' And with that, he took off into the sky like a lightning pup.
'Not fair!' Sor shot after him, beating her wings furiously to catch up with her brother. She burst above the clouds, spotting Pen's golden give-away form ahead of her. Cloudracing was one of her favourite games, but he'd had a headstart, and was faster anyway. He just wanted guarantee that he would win. It's his father's blood, her mother would say. Alpupia runs in his veins. Well, it ran in her veins too. Her name too meant something in their native language- 'crow', while her brother's meant 'feather'. Probably after their looks.
Puffing, she finally spotted the crown of the tree poking up through the clouds. As she arrived, she saw no one around her. Had she won? Had she really?
'Ha! Fooled you, didn't I?' Pen burst out from the canopy.
'Awww.' she groaned. It got her every single time.
'Don't be sad; we're playing cloud-and-seek next!'
Sor perked up. She'd win at that; she won every time!
'A quick one though,' He glanced at the sky. 'It's nearly dark.'
Sor didn't care. 'Bags not seeking!'
Pen smiled good naturedly. 'Fine.' He closed his eyes. 'One, two, three...'
Sor quietly flapped away. Which cloud, which cloud... ahah! She spotted a nice big fluffy one. He'll never find me in there! She dived into it, burrowing into the very middle. Faintly, she heard her brother. 'Ready or not, here I come!'
Oh, I'm ready, she thought.
She listened out for her brother - not for him to find her, for him to scream he gave up. But she couldn't hear anything, not even a wingbeat. He'll fly past sooner or later.
But after what seemed like a very long while, Pen still hadn't given up. Or said he had, anyway. He never took this long. Sor decided to see what was happening. She poked her head out of the cloud- and was met with blackness, with only the moon for light.
Panic set in. Pen was responsible; would he have left as soon as it got dark, like Ma said? Would he have left her? 'Pen?' she called. No answer. 'Pen?' Her voice wavered. She came fully out of the cloud, and began to fly around. 'Where are you?' she cried. A sob escaped her mouth. She would never admit it, but she was afraid of the dark. And she'd always relied on Pen to lead her home. Maybe she needed him more than she thought. 'Pen?!?' she almost screamed, one last time. Still no one came.
Then, suddenly, she heard a 'BOO!' from behind her, and shot up into the air with fright. Pen was there, bits of cloud fluff giving away that he'd been hiding in the clouds too.
'Pen!' she said, half-relieved, half-angry. 'Why didn't you answer? I thought you'd gone! I thought you'd left me here, alone, in the dark...' She clapped a paw to her mouth. She'd just told him her greatest fear! She'd get teased so much now...
But Pen looked at her, a bit surprised. 'I'd never leave you, sis. We're more than just siblings; we're best friends!' When he got no answer from her, he added, 'Right?'
Sor found his eyes, his eyes so much like hers, and found calmness in them. 'Right.' She'd over-panicked, like she always did when she got scared. Pen was more than a sibling to her, too.
'Let's go home.' Gently he nudged her.
'Okay.'
As they flew, side by side, Sor stole a glance at her brother. He looked so calm, so certain. Suddenly she realized she was proud to have him as a brother, and lucky to have him as a friend.
And maybe there was more meaning to their names than she thought.
The crow can't fly without the feather. But the feather is nothing without the crow.
Personality;
See that blur in the shopping mall? There, the life of the party? Over there, running through the parks? That's Sorrë. She's a very energetic pup, always wanting to get to places and do things fast. But sometimes she forgets to put effort in things, and that's when she gets into trouble. She's impulsive, always leaping before looking, and very passionate about the things she likes. She is very emotionally extreme, and will overreact to the tiniest thing. Sometimes she can be blunt and very to the point, but she doesn't mean to hurt your feelings- she just doesn't have the patience for understanding. She needs someone to pick her up when she's down, or she might end up digging an even bigger hole, sometimes to help others get out of theirs. But she is also a loyal friend, even though her helping goes something like, 'Well, screw homework then!', and will fight for what she believes in.
