Annabelle crouched under the bench, shivering. It wasn't cold. She was just scared. She knew this wasn't the best hiding place- it was only a few doors from her house- but she hoped her drunk stepdad wouldn't think to look under here. A door slammed, and she heard that all-too-familiar roar accompanied by a boozy smell so strong, it assaulted her senses even here. She heard the heavy, uneven footsteps as he swaggered down the footpath. Soon she could see his disgusting feet, right in front of her nose.
'Annabelle!' he roared. 'Come back here, you sl**!' She quaked. Please don't see me, please don't see me...

Slowly his feet moved past. 'Annabelle!' She was starting to hate her name- coming out of his mouth, it sounded like a curse, a dirty word. Ever since her mum had died and left her with her abusive stepfather, 'Annabelle' was now just another word for 'stupid'.

'Annabelle!' The roar was muted as her stepfather turned around the corner. Quick as a bullet, she darted out and ran. She didn't care where she was going. Just away. She'd find a way to survive. Even if she had to eat out of dustbins, she'd do it. Maybe- just maybe- someone would take her in for a night. Maybe.

'Annabelle!' Right then, she abandoned her name, her old life, her old self. She was a new person now. She felt a new burst of confidence. She needed a new name. Something tougher, less girly-girly than 'Annabelle'. Something she could be proud to be called.
She remembered her mother, who had fought right till the end. Who had tried to hold on for her daughter. Who never, ever gave up.
She would fight too.

Mark (her old boy name) woke up unused to the strange surrondings, as he yawned. Some years past, and he hated boys, since they would tease him because of his markings, and he- or err she i guess, has always took a favorite in girls, because they are very nice to him and likes his markings. Thats when it sturck her, she saw a beauty pageant contest and had wanted to participate, but her mom wouldn't let her knowing that her son would turn into a daughter.

Marzia (yes, she changed her name), fled from her house and bumped into a nice looking owner she could have, her owner supported her and soon became her foster mother. She found a handsome looking PPs once, but never got the chance to talk to him, and before she knew it he was taken away from her.

Spending her next 5 years, living alone. She couldn't take it after the tragic accident f her owner, that struck her life majorly, so she ran and ran into the woods where she would find peace. Living in the woods was tough, but she did survive from some help of some wolf packs. She found a handsome wolf she wanted to talk to him, but remebered that she must return back to the city of her friends would worry for her.

She ran back, to the city, but found herself in very bad shape, so she fainted and was brought to the hospital for emergency.Her favored sentence from one of her friends were "Don't worry about your looks, because no matter what, you will always be out friend", until she drifted to sleep.

Chan sighed. People were so stupid. Poor Chan looked like both a boy and a girl and they had no motivation whatsoever to choose a gender. Chan liked it the way that it was. No conformity made it so that they could change everything around and not have people try to see exactly who they were.

A day started with Chan shuffling to the small arts shop they often called home. It was full to the brim with musician's pieces and paintings. It was always bright and homey and they adored spending time there. Of course, having no friends meant that they spent a very unhealthy amount of time there and they had recently received a job from the owner.

It was a very unusual day, however, because besides Chan and the owner of the shop there was only one customer. He was a very eccentric looking person, standing very tall and wearing things decorated in rainbows. It was a very large contrast from Chan's usual bland neautral colored tones.

Chan was very amused by the boy. He stood out so much that the teasing must have been endless. This boy was specifically why Chan chose such bland things.

Chan took their post at the check out desk right when the colorful boy came up. His hair was a vibrant purple that would immediately catch your eye. Chan liked the color but would absolutely not even dare try to wear it.

"Hi!" the boy said friendly like, smiling at Chan. Chan gave a polite grin and rang up the solid black guitar the boy was purchasing. Chan gave a nod of respect at the sight. They always respected musicians, especially since they couldn't play themselves.

The boy paid for the guitar, waved, and left via the front door. But just before he reached the door he hesitated. Only for a moment though, because he turned and marched back to the desk and his hand shot out for Chan to shake.

"Hi there," he read Chan's clip-on name tag, "Chan. Weird name. But I'm Alexis and I want to be your friend!"

Chan's eyes widened. Was it possible? After years of being alone, not by choice but because of their inersgender ways, could they be getting a friend? Possibly one that wouldn't turn on them and make fun of them?

"Hi, Alexis." They shook Alexis's hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Chan, inersgender lazy kid with a knack for rebellion."
