idol is an older dog, not quite at elder status however he is old enough to where competing
is very limited for him due to both energy and health-related concerns.
idol is well known among the competition "industry," and for anyone who looks at past competitors
he may even be considered a role-model or a dog to try getting yours to live up to in reputation and
success. an idol.

in his younger years, idol excelled in many - but not all - competitions. he was well known for his high
placings, generally first or second, and has a wide variety of ribbons from when he first started out to
the rare event he does now. however, despite his and his trainer's success he is more known for his
determination and drive to not let his owner down! even if he was far behind in an event, he'd do what
he knew to do and finished strong(even if that meant last)

now, idol isn't a perfect dog, how could he be? no dog is perfect, and he is retired from the competing
life. but to the eye of a beginning competitor, he is a lot to work up too. in fact one reason he had to
stop competing when he did was due to hip displacia; but kept competing for about a year after because
of his determination.

it's an honor to be able to introduce you all to idol, but there's far more to him than just his competition
life!

personality : bambi is a rough and tumble gal through and
through. there's nothing she loves more than getting
her paws dirty, whether that be herding sheep in the
pasture or hiking in the mountains. she's a very high
energy dog. as such she also competes in agility to
try and burn off some of her excess energy. she's an
outdoor dog, hating to be cooped up inside anywhere
for long periods.
she often goes out into the fields or woods and comes
back caked in mud and who knows what else and
smelling like she's been rolling in something that died.
bambi hated getting into the bath, and will twist
out peoples grasp when she realises she's being brought
to the bathroom. the ensuring chase usually covers half
the house in whatever she's covered in. when she's finally
been put into the bath, however, she calms down entirely,
enjoying the warm water. no one's sure why she fights
going in so much, as she has no problem jumping into
bodies of water outside.
she is a very stubborn pooch. if she doesn't want to do
something it comes down to a battle of wills, and she
doesn't give in easy. while she's an intelligent dog and
a willing learner, she needs to be trained by someone
she respects or she'll simply sit there and refuse to do
anything until she gets bored and wanders off.
around other dogs she's quite dominant and starts
rows* if other dogs don't submit and see her as the
alpha. it causes some minor problems between her
and bear - who is of a similar mindset - but bear
simply views bambi as one of her many unruly pups.
bambi usually submits to the older female in the end,
like many of her kennelmates seeing bear as some sort
of a supreme mother.
she loves to eat, and is very fond of duck meat.
she has a particular fondness of blackberries. while
she's out and about trekking through the fields she'll
often comes across blackberries bushes and'll stop
to eat some - coming back home with purple
smeared around her muzzle. she quite enjoys
eating apples slices, and is sometimes given some
during training as a treat.
bambi is full of odd little quirks, she often nips at
people's heels when she wants something, herding
them in the direction of thing she's after. when she's
inside the house she sometimes watches tv, barking
at the telly when a particular ad with westie comes
on and sometimes settles down beside cas to
watch a film if there's animals in it. her favourite is
'greyfriars bobby.'
one of her less favourable habits is that she howls,
especially at night. despite much trying for a more
peaceful night's rest, it seems to be an unbreakable
habit. she usually only howls when she's outside, but
if she chooses to howl inside the kennels she'll end up
setting off all her kennelmates too. a simple solution
would be to simply keep her inside, however bambi
is a very good escape artist and when she wants to
howl she'll make in her business to get and howl.
even if she likes to pretend she isn't, bambi is a massive
cuddler. she loves setting in beside someone and having
them scratch her behind the ears though she'll sigh as if
to say i'm only just putting up with this, you know.
she's often found lounging with violet in patches of sun-
light on warm days - one sprawled on top of the other -
or curled up together on colder days.
bambi doesn't like strangers on her territory, and makes
a decent guard dog. unless she sees a new person with
one of the family she'll bark to inform they of the
visitor. if she thinks they're shady she'll strip her teeth.
out and about she's fine with new people, and she rarely
barks at strange children.

one shot :
summer in ireland is usually a short affair, a few
weeks of good weather before 'summer' had
officially set in, followed by weeks of rain and
the horrible sticky, headachey promise of thunder
that never came.
october could be a more promising month.

saint otterlake's always looked beautiful in the
fall, with the great oak trees leading up the driveway
shedding their bright leaves, and the forest full
of life.
the dogs of the kennel were oblivious to the fact
that this fine, friday morning was halloween and
that many of them would be stressed in their
stalls, even with the best efforts to keep them
at ease, from the sound of fireworks from the
local village come nightfall.
a warm wind blew, shaking leaves from the
trees and ruffling the coats of the dogs milling
around the manor's land, enjoying the warmth
following two days of cold rain.
salem's excited bark echoed around the kennel
yard from the driveway as he played with the
younger children chasing the falling leaves and
jumping into considerably large leaf piles, it
wasn't an easy feet to keep him at bay as leaves
were being gathered into a pile getting bigger
and bigger.
castor and layton had disappeared into the
pasture to chase each other about and bear
was inside the eat, eating breakfeast.
bambi and violet were usually out roaming
the forest after they'd eaten, rain or shine.
this morning, however, they hadn't left the
kennelyard.
in a patch of warm, october sunshine, violet
was sprawled on top of the older female. her
paws on bambi's shoulders and her head resting
on her lower back. the two were lying in the
doorway to the kennel - getting in the way of
the usual morning jobs - however, the two
looked just plain adorable.
the eldest daughter, never seen without her
trusty camera, was quick to turn it on and
point it at the dozing pooches. just as she
pressed click, bambi half-opened one blue-ish
eye. upon noticing the camera and the weight
of the pup across her back, the kelpie huffed
out a loud sigh of defeat before setting her
nose under her paw and falling back to sleep.
for several hours, only one entrance to the
kennel was in use.
and it was well known, of course, that bambi
didn't honestly mind the pale pup cuddled up
next to her ; her sighing only succeeding in
making the sight more adorable.

why do i want this kelpie? : i've been completely enamoured with this beautiful kelpie since the second thread opened. she's so eye catching, she just pops out from behind the cover. she's a real stunner.
i'd love to have a dog that stirs up the peaceful balance in the kennel a little and i think she's the perfect dog for that. i'd love to write stories about her pushing bear to see how far she can go before a scuffle breaks out and slinking behind layton making him nervous, and also her sleeping cosied up with violet or being afraid of moving when the cats fallen asleep on her. it would be so interesting to watch her develop around up around the dogs currently at saint otterlake's and any future dog to come.
theme : i love this kelpie's snowflake markings, they remind me of bambi as a fawn. they were the first thing that came to mind when i was picking a name for her. i've always loved how the word 'twitterpated' sounded and i thought it would match up lovely with her callname.




history : it comes to a surprise to many people that bambi was not, in fact, bred at saint otterlake's. bambi's mother came from a very prestigious line of show dogs, bred to be the perfect specimen in the ring. her dam - slumber remedy, or 'beauty' - had one breeding left. her owner had swapped each of her other pups with other prestigious owners for one of their pups to expand his kennel. he had planned to keep her final pup for himself, now that she was retiring from the ring. the dog he wanted to sire the pup was the best in show in some of the biggest dog shows in the world and was very much in demand. he paid out a small fortune for a breeding - along with the promise of a future breeding from the pup and a pup from one of his other dogs - and beauty was shipped up to their kennel. these breeders also kept a small group of unrelated kelpies they used for herding. these dogs were from a far less prestigious line as they were bred to work. during her stay, beauty escaped from her pen and met one of these herders.
when the pup was born, it was immediately to the man, who come from a long line of kelpie breeders and had been breeding them for the past thirty-eight years, that this pup was not sired by the show dog. further inspection indeed that the pup's sire was a young, very talented herder. the man was less than impressed.
none of his regular customers and fellow breeders were interested in the pup, it didn't matter how good a herder the sire was. at six weeks old, the small female pup was sold to saint otterlake's - who he had heard about through the grapevine of his breeding circle. two weeks later, the pup was making herself at home in the kennel.
she was named bambi by the youngest child, as her favourite film she loved the clumsy pup who reminded her of the disney deer slipping on the ice. keeping with the theme, her showname became 'twitterpated.'




relationships :
bear : the two can scuffle on occasion (on bambi's behalf), but for the most part she respects the older female. the two have an almost parent-pup relationship, with bambi wanting to see how far she can push bear before being put back into her place. it's advisable not to leave the two alone together for long periods of time.
salem : as a naturally submissive and friendly dog, salem is a dog bambi gets along quite well with. the two are often found roaming together - and even chasing each other around at the pasture. she definitely enjoys his company.
castor : the two have somewhat of a a love-hate relationship. while the two usually get along quite well - castor not being bothered by dominant attitude - he'll often snap at her if she's pestering layton - his best friend - and they've scuffled the odd time she won't back off.
layton : layton is slightly nervous of bambi, due to occasions where she's flashed her teeth at him. when she's around he usually just sticks close to castor. bambi tolerates him as he's submissive but doesn't seem to particularly care for him. though sometimes she'll follow and pester him for fun.
violet : of all her fellow kennelmates, violet is the one who bambi gets along best with. violet is not as submissive as her brother or as dominant as her mother and bambi seems to enjoy the challenge of finding their balance. she particularly enjoys their play-fights sessions. the two are rarely away from each other, often found playing, roaming or sleeping in the sun together. violet is also a herder, and as such the two often train and compete together.
ruffian : the cat, and the queen of saint otterlake's. bambi holds some respect for the small molly after the cat scratched her one the nose as a tiny kitten - and she's a tiny bit afraid of her too, as she's gotten bigger she's knows how to use those claws better. it's not unusual that if the kelpie's lying in the sun to find ruffian curled on top of her as bambi looks nervous of moving in case she gets clawed.

the pup pricked her ears at the exclamation but didn't look up from the licking at the tasty pumpkin stuff in her kong. "she howled all last night," the young girl said nodding at her aunt's statement as she picked up a blue crayon, her legs swinging beneath the table. "and aaaall the other dogs started howling, too!" the girl said, looking up from the drawing of said 'little monster' to look at her aunt. "even, bear."
"no," her aunt gasped, "even bear?" the youngster giggled and nodded.
"she keeps nipping at bear," her mother said, sitting down in front of her sister. a smile twitched at her lips, "and when bear growls at her she growls back."
"it could be worse," her sister said, lifting her mug of tea to her lips and holding it close to her mouth.
"she can get out of her kennel, too."
"well, at least she's cute."
"and she likes delta rae," the girl* chipped in, grabbing her mug of tea with both her hands. "she fell 'sleep when i was playing their cd yesterday so we, um, put their cd into her cd player and she fell asleep last night."
