Extra; The field had been cast in a dark shadow. A few horses shifted unevenly while grazing the grass. A few moved around, looking for grass still somewhat in the sun, but ended up staying near the herd, as they came to no avail. An almost pure white gelding trotted across the field, looking for the only place he called home. As he walked, a squirrel jumped out form beneath a bush, causing him to jump. He started off in a wild frenzy and ran straight through the calm grazing herd, in turn causing them to flee. Up ahead, the fence grew closer. "Master! Master slow down! Its ok!" His owner shouted out the door. It was too late. His hoofs beat the ground one last time before his whole body was soaring over the fence. It was like he had wings of his own.
Pound! Master's hooves hit the ground with a force. He forced off his front hooves, and his back hooves sprung him forwards. Up over the hill, he ran. The sun, now almost set, caused his whole body to become a pure black shadow. He stood on top of the hill, proud of himself. His owner galloped over on one of the mares in the herd. She hooked a rope onto his halter, and led him back to the group.
The group proceeded to herd themselves into the corresponding stalls. Master trotted into his. He shifted nervously. He know he wasn't going to be there all night. Beth, as he now knew her name from one of the mares, hooked all the stalls shut. As her heard her leave, he did what he had practiced so many times before.
Click He flipped the lock open. He was now out of his stall, free do do whatever he wanted. He broke into the hay pile, and at most of it. He continued to trot outside, where he easily sailed over the fence. He ran farther and faster this time, only to find a small dirt trail. He followed it, and found a small jump. He turned around, ran, and sailed over the jump. The freedom sent him even farther. He was running, no
Galloping over the jumps, not faltering once. He heard an unfamiliar sound. Pounding hooves on dirt. His ears flicked back, and he ran as fast as he could.
Jump, Jump, Jump until he reached a grandstand full of people. Terrified, he turned in circles. Other horses with riders slowed as they reached him. He was kicking, bucking, fighting
air. People looked around, but it was too dark to see any saddle on his back. Another rider moved over and calmed him down.
Beth wasn't happy. She double locked his stall, and kept him in a higher fenced area. Training would come soon, he knew, but how soon?
