This stallion is extremely head shy and spooks when being tacked or walked on a lead. Tell me what you would do to help gain his trust.
username: Hello there, my user name, is Flurry, and you can call me whatever you would like. I'm attempting
to gain this beauty's trust, as he stood out to me. I ride a horse named Tai, who is also a dapple grey, so they
seem particularily handsome, to me. The name Tai was also similar to this boy's own name. I am a non-owner.
[63 words // 316 characters]
show name (optional): If I ever gained this beauty's trust to an extent that he would be competition material,
I would call him 'Casmir's Kai'. The beautiful name, means 'welcome to the peaceful sea' which I think is quite
a cool show name for such a handsome dapple grey. He reminds me of the sea greatly, which makes it fit. <3
[58 words // 307 characters]
name: I'd name this cute Kai, which means 'peaceful sea'. His markings as stated above, remind me of the sea.
[19 words // 103 characters]
halter color: This handsome boy would be given a soft, greyish-blue, coloured halter. I choose this, apart from
all colours as it has shown stress-relieving signs and is very calming. Since horses only have the blue and green
colour cones, they can only see spectrums of those two colours. This means that the horse, will be able to see
the halter colour, and it may have a slightly stress relieving and calming effect. This is a long shot, but maybe.
[78 words // 434 characters]
how would you gain his trust: I would brush him, every day, as brushing is shown as a sign of trust, from horses
to riders. Before brushing, I would give him one or two treats, and before I leave, do the same. I would always
bring his halter and hang it up on a peg in the stall, in his view but not in direct view so he doesn't spook. Once
he was comfortable, with the halter, I would often bring it up to him, and, show it to him, in the middle of me
brushing him. Once he was completely laid back with the halter, I would put it on him while brushing, so he is
used to it being on, while something calm is happening, such as brushing, so he associates the halter with calm
things. In my next step I would practice leading him around in a calm environment or arena, careful to go, at a
time in which there would be no cars, or other horses so it would be extremely tranquil. After he was laid back
with leading, I would start lunging him, as it is proven to strengthen a bond between you and your horse. So he
never hurt himself doing it, I would be careful to stretch his legs before and after, and pick his hooves, so that
he never spooks from tripping, and stops wanting to do it. I would continue leading, and lunging him, and start
doing it with a saddle on, and an extra pad, so that it seems lighter and softer, and after he is used to this, I'd
start to take off the third pad, and tighten up the girth slowly, one latch by one latch, until the saddle was on
properly. Next I would start, with the bridle, at first with no bit, so he doesn't immediately hate it, and, once
he was used to that, I would start fully tacking him up, but, only in his stall, always brushing, before and after
so that he would always feel calmed once he was let back into his stall. Once he was used to tacking up, when
we went out on short walks, I would stop walking, and, slowly mount him, getting off, after about ten seconds.
I would do this until he was laid back about it, and then I would start mounting him, and then giving him a tiny
squeeze, a motion he already knew from his previous owners. I would walk him in slow circles around an arena,
and get off after about five minutes. He would slowly go for longer amounts of time. After he was used to this
step, we would start doing extremely slow trots, for short periods of time, about five minutes. By this point he
would be pretty trusting of me, and after being able to trot for ten minutes, we would progress, onto a canter,
and he would, by then, have the temperament of any average horse, perhaps better. That is my new trust plan.
[500 words // 2534 characters]
extra: To help him with befriending other horses, I have found my handsome boy a friend, Tino here. Tino's the
only Tolter, that Kai has been able to befriend, given his nervous state. Tino's gentle nature, helped them bond
together, over about a month. It has slowly helped Kai to lean towards other horses, and, he is slowly managing
to befriend, some of the other, resident Tolters. If one gives off a negative energy, Kai is immediately repelled,
but since most of them are very peaceful, caring figures, Kai is usually fine, and he is becoming a perfect horse.

how would you gain his trust?: I would gain this horses trust by hopefully grooming him often, once a day, if he allows, as grooming develops trust and a close bond with a horse. I would also make sure to give him plenty of healthy treats, such as carrots and apples, and spend a lot of time simply talking to him and maybe even singing or humming to him, trying to gently calm him down and let him get used to my voice, and touch through the grooming.

how would you gain his trust? To gain the trust of this handsome young stallion, I would first allow him to just see me and smell my scent as I stood back a few feet from the fence. Next, I would get closer and closer until he was alright with me just standing there by the fence. After this, I would come into the pen and just stand there and see what he did. I would come towards him, then I would get the lunge line on him once he wasn't afraid anymore. I would have him run round the pen, and I would flip the line at him which would then cause him to become confused and he would watch what I was doing. I would start walking, and I would flick the rope at him as he continued to run. Curious, he would come to me and I would stand there and wait. After so many moments, he might come right up to me and touch his muzzle to my shoulder. I would half turn, and look at him from the side, then I would treat him and see if he'd let me touch him. Once he let me touch him, I would keep on until he had let me saddle him and then getting the bridle on, and I keep earning his trust until I was finally on his back.

username: Mother Of Bears
show name (optional): Ever So Clever
name: Dobbin
halter color: old leather with silver plating down the cheek strap
how would you gain his trust? Each day, I would go out and offer a carrot of fruit I can hold out. I would groom him everyday, giving Dobbin time to be comfortable with me touching his neck. At night, I would sit in the hall with my back against his stall door and read poetry aloud to him and the neighboring horses. In the morning, I would hold a bucket of warm bran mash in my arms for him to eat, but I wouldn't touch his face. I would never approach from his front, I would always walk up to his shoulder, reciting Edgar Allen Poe or Robert Frost poems in a hushed voice, watching my feet. Once he let me touch his nose, I would keep hand warmers in my gloves so Dobbin had positive memories of my touching his nose. Ones of warmth, soothing voices, and the smell of hay. After a week of spending time with Dobbin like this, I would bring a halter and let him become familiar with it, showing him it's harmless. Repeating the same process again and again until he was comfortable, I would move to bringing the halter to his face, reciting the same poems. After months and months, muttering verses of poems always calms him down when he is being tacked up, or led around.
Extra: [the same poem that calms him down]
Be silent in that solitude
which is not loneliness-- for then
the spirits of the dead who stood
in life before thee are again
in death around thee-- and their will
shall overshadow thee: be still

how would you gain his trust?
First I would stop by his stall every day and leave him some treats and talk to him a bit, then once he is use to me being around I would start bringing a halter with me and get him use to seeing a halter (hanging one in the stall when ever I groomed him as well) and once he is comfortable seeing/being around them and me together, I would slow start getting him use to someone touching his face by grooming and petting, then I would try to actually put on his halter and once he has it on I will make sure to praise him greatly with treats and pats and then i would repeat that a couple of times a day and hopefully once he sees that the halter can't harm him he will let me lead him around with one on a lead rope in an arena. and once he is comfortable with that then i would slowly get him use to the different tack.
