After the Purchase of my new mustang went threw an he was officially mine. I knew I had to go pick him up..but first... I had to get ready.. This isn't just a horse. It's a Wild BLM Mustang. So I went to get a bunch of old saddles, haters, bridles, blankets, lead ropes an things like that from an auction since I knew things were going to get broken, then I set up a about 20ft round pen that he will be staying in until I can trust him an he trusts me. So I hooked up my stock trailer to my Chevy truck put some hay, an a bunch of human horse things so the mustang can get used to them. My husband an I get in the truck an start the 6 Hour drive to Virginia to pick him up.
We arrived.. I am so excited that I jump out of the truck an go find which corral he is being held in.
I saw his bald facial marking an his bright palomino coat. I just new it had to be him. Since I brought him online I haven't got to see him in person.. All I had were pictures, but he is just as beautiful as I thought. My husband finally catches up with me with the ropes an treats an things that I told him to bring. The mustang picks his head up an gives us a stare of curiosity. An I stand there smiling so greatly. I climbed into the corral with just a lasso rope. I slowly take a few steps toward the mustang, he takes a step backwards. Then I take a step back as "inviting him " in my space. He wanted in, because he took a few steps toward me. So I took just a few more steps an there, I am standing in front of him. I am incredibly excited at this point. I put my hand out to see his reaction, he leaned back a little then put his neck out to sniff my hand. He blew snot all over it when he exhaled. Ew that was gross, but I chuckled and scared him just a little. I slowly touch his face with my finger tips then slowly use my hand. I stoke his jaw an around to the side of his neck, he isn't moving a muscle at this point, but he's fairly relaxed. I keep rubbing the side on his neck an it lets him know I am not going to hurt him because when a mother an foal touch it's usually a rub on the side of the neck for security which is why the foal is always in that spot. I Then I take a lasso rope an rub it in that same area. He was very nervous of this rope but didn't know how to feel or react to it. I then move to rubbing it gently on his jaw an face then I ever so slowly slip it over his neck. He jumped back a step an then leaned back an was trying to look at it an bite it. I just backed up a few feet an let him respond to it. I then walked over to my poor husband who is watching me with a little fear since he doesn't know much about horses or how to train, etc. I asked him to hand me the rope halter that we had for him. After the mustang cooled down an just stood still I slowly approached him. He didn't mind me touching his face, so then I did the same thing I did for the lasso rope, just with the rope halter. The mustang was very concerned of the color of the rope halter. It was a neon orange an it kind of tripped him out. But he was okay with it touching him. I then slowly slipped it over his muzzle a tiny bit. Then gave him a tiny kiss on his muzzle his ears perked up straight forward as in OMG what was that noise, because I made a little kissy noise. I pulled the rope halter up further on his face then tied the part that goes behind the ears. He doesn't like his ears being messed with at all. It is a very sensitive area with him. Once I tied it he was fine an acted like he's done it before. I walked over an got a tiny treat an let him sniff an he was very interested in it an would follow what hand back an forth. I laughed an handed him the treat. An walked back over to my husband.
Since I now have the halter an rope on him, we were already there for an hour or so.. We figured its time to load him on the trailer. Oh boy.. A horses worst fear...trailering. A supervisor walked up to us an told us that we could back the trailer to the gate leading in the corral. So that's what my husband did. The mustang was galloping around the corral in fear of what was going on. Once the trailer door was down an open for the mustang to get in. I gave him a few minutes to calm down an sniff an investigate the trailer . Then he kinda walked it an was sniffing around so we quietly but quickly shut the door an locked it. After he was loaded on to the trailer the supervisor took me to the office to fill out paperwork an get his certificate set up. After I signed all the papers an paid them a total of 350$ I had to think of a registration name for him.. This is hard for me because I like crazy names yet it has to fit him an I don't know really anything about him. So I came up with... "Don't mess with the Zohan" from the movie. A.k.a Zohan or Hanny for his barn name. Since all the papers are done an Zohan trailered we are all cleared to leave on our 6 hour home to start my new Life journey with Zohan.
