Training Journal: Day One

Postby EvilMonkey247 » Thu Jul 17, 2014 7:11 am

Day One

I've decided to write a journal about training the new horse that arrived on the ranch simply because I want to keep this for future ref. we decided to name her Dreamer because she likes to just stare off into the pastures, well that is, when she's not running from the ranch hands.

She was a bit nervous on the truck ride but she got here okay, but the driver told me that she hates to be alone and is head shy, so we couldn't get the halter on her to get her out of the trailer, in fact, she kept rearing up every time anyone got near her with it, even when we were just passing her to put it away. We decided to just back the trailer up to one of the stalls, leave some food out and just hope that she would go for the food if she got hungry and sure enough she left the trailer of her own accord. At least we don't have to get her acclimated to being in a herd, all we really need to do is get her used to the horses themselves, which should be relatively easy considering that I don't really have any problem horses on the ranch.

I couldn't really do much in the way of training because it was pretty late when the truck got here and because I couldn't get her to stand still to put the halter on so we just decided to get her acclimated to the stall. She seems to like it but I don't know how long that will last because she may just find some security in the relatively small space after all her stress form the move.
