Day 1
The trip home was safe and comforting. My mare was pretty calm and I thought of a name. She was beautiful and after some thinking and looking out the window back to the trailer I could see she was prideful. I decided to name her Narrisa's Pride. When we got to my father's stable I picked out an empty stable Dad had said was okay for my mustang. I got a halter, a guide rope, carrots, and apples. I walked into the outside pen where Narrisa was waiting. When I opened the trailer door she rushed out of the dim trailer into the sun as if she proffered the light to the dark, but I ignored it. I sat around and saw her curiously look around. I slowly and calmly walked up to her and started stroking her. She was fine with it and I was relieved. I gave her a large slice of apple to reward her. I needed to know Narrisa's basic comfort zones. I started with her muzzle and then her neck and on her back, giving her treats every now and then.
When I started to stroke her sensitive zone( behind her front legs) she started to move away. Now knowing her comfort zones I decided I could put a halter on. Taking a red halter, I fastened it on her. She started to squirm and paw at the ground. After putting it on I gave her a whole carrot to chew on. For the first 10 minutes or so Nisa, as I had begun to call her, shook her head as if the halter was an annoying fly, but after about 30 minutes she began grazing as if the halter didn't exist. I smiled. I walked over to where she was watching a dark shed warily, clipped on my red and white lead rope and led her back into the stables. At that time it was dark inside and I couldn't get Narrisa inside. She whinnied as if the dark would hurt her. I realized she was afraid of the dark! I flipped on a light switch and led her to her stall. She still seemed jumpy though, so I turned on her stall's light. I ran to the main switches and turned it off. I went back to Nisa's stable and kissed her muzzle. Today I found her comfort zones and that she was afraid of the dark. Today was better then I thought. Walking to my house I dreamed of tomorrow.
Day 2
As I woke up I heard a neigh outside. For a second I thought it was Nisa but that was impossible. Looking outside I saw my father with a small colt(imagination). ''Surprise!" he said,'' Happy Birthday!". I was stunned. I got a colt for my birthday. That didn't happen very often! Dad told me that he hired one of our trainers to take care of him. I was so happy! I took him over to the stable next to Nisa. Nisa looked at him with a surprised look. I took Narrisa out to the ring and let her run around. I remembered her scare yesterday in the dark. That wouldn't be good and she would have to fix that. I knew that she was pretty comfortable with me touching her down to her sensitive parts of her leg. First I would show her that the dark isn't dangerous. I led her to a older ring with a dark shed. I showed her from the edge of the ring that it wasn't dangerous. She tried to run and I let her lead me away. It was only the second day and I didn't want to stress Nisa. I decided a even more slow approach. I got some VERY thin clothes to drape over her eyes. She tried to back up but I kept firm. After 15 minutes of struggling she finally stood still. I took of the cloth and gave her a large carrot. "What a good girl you are Nisa", I chimed. She seemed to be proud but when she saw the same dark shed from earlier she tried to buck at it. Holding her with all my might I led her to her stable. For a few hours I sat on a hay pile and just stroke her and talk to her. She fell asleep and I checked on my new coat. He could be useful. Later. When Narrisa woke up I toke her out with my coat I named Mica for his glimmering highlights. I took them to my clubhouse and let them sniff each other. I would take them out a lot so they needed to know each other. I was awakened from my thoughts with a frightened whinny from Nisa. She was looking at the sky which was turning dark. I hugged her and led my horses back to their stables. I turned on Narrisa's light and left to my house to tell Mom about the day. I can't wait for tomorrow. I plan to put on a saddle blanket and work on her fear.
