--Dear Diary,

----I went to the corrals today and saw the prettiest mare...She's a buckskin, with a star and little snip. She seems quite nervous and tries to stay in the middle of the corral, away from everything...But it's rather warm today, and she looks like she wants to be in the shade. I'm going to try and get her to come over and stand under a tree with me with a few sugar cubes...

--Dear Diary,

----It didn't go well...The sweet scent of the sugar cubes drew her over, but once she noticed me, she went wild! She reared up and rolled her eyes 'till the whites showed. I talked calmly to her, to get her used to my voice and show her I wasn't going to hurt her. After a few minutes she calmed down enough to stand still, but she was still weary of me. I gently tossed the sugar cubes toward her and she spooked a bit; but eventually bent to sniff them...

----I went back to the corrals today. Nehru perked her ears when she first saw me, but quickly lost interest and continued dozing in the middle of the corral...I think we're on a good track here, at least she recognized me <3

--Dear Diary,

----Nehru actually responded to voice today! She perked up, and took a step toward the fence! I'm going to try offering her treats until she'll come all the up to the fence...Then, I'll see if I can touch her.

----It's been a week now. I haven't had time to write, but she's coming along.
She'll come up to the fence when she sees me now, and take treats from my hand! We are really bonding <3

--Dear Diary,

----I haven't had access to my Diary since Wednesday, but I have been working with Nehru. She's somewhat "halter-trained" - as in, she'll let me put one on - so I decided to start leading her around. We'll see how she does...
--P.S. There was small firework display in town Friday, and I'm pleased to report that besides an initial spook, Nehru did very well! She perked her ears and watched the lights explode in the sky with interest <3
