What is a Jewel Mane Dragon? wrote:A Jewel Mane Dragon is a large creature with jewls on their foreheads and tails. They eat mostly small mamals such as birds, squirels, and rabbits. The fur on their back, hind, and front legs feel like the softest of silk and is pretty short. The fur around their neck (Also know as their mane) and tail is very soft, fluffy, and long. Jewel mane Dragons mostly keep to themselves but when they find someone they like the grow very attached, loyal, and talkative. They're all slightly bigger than a mustang but some grow to be as large as a elephant. All Jewel Mane Dragons have jewels at the end of their tail and on their forehead, there's really no exception to that rule. The jewel on their tail is used as a weapon in combat and hunting, while the jewel on their forehead is used during mating season to atract females.

Dragon's Name:
Lólindir
Reason, Meaning or Purpose:
His coloration made me think of the elk I see all the time where I live. However, I didn't want to name him Elk, so I translated the word "elk" to elfish, and got Lólindir, and even the sound seemed to fit him.
Nickname:
Loli
Reason for Nickname:
Loli is easier to say than his given name, and he much prefers it.
Gender:
Male
Age:
20 years
Favorite Color:
Deep, emerald green, like healthy grass.
Least Favorite Color:
Loli can't stand deep shades of red, as they remind him of blood. This male does not mind violence, persay, but he does hate the scent, taste and texture of blood.
Favorite Music:
Loli does not expose himself to music often, but when he does he adores the sounds of a violin. He absolutely adores Lindsey Stirling's music, and has been known to actively seek out the source if he hears it.
Least Favorite Music:
Loli hates rap music, although he can't truly place why. Something about it simply bothers him.
Favorite Food:
Buffalo steak, definitely.
Favorite Literature:
Loli cannot read.
Favorite Expression:
"Do or do not. There is no try."
Favorite Expletive:
He doesn't have one.
Personality:
This ethereal male is incredibly patient, especially with those he considers friends. His threshold and personal boundaries seem to be further than others of his species, meaning he will tolerate more annoyances longer. He has been known to allow others to touch him, even going so far as to allow them to tug on his ears and furred tail. However, once he is pushed past his breaking point, Loli is fierce and incredibly dangerous. When his patience has run out, he will not hesitate to use his claws or fangs to drive the offender away. He will stop when they back off, however.
As well as being patient, Loli is attentive and caring as well. He pays attention to everything going on around him, and is always aware of his surroundings, however this is not for self preservation. This male JMD has an affinity for healing and mending , and he loves to help. Because of his attention to detail is is hard to hide injuries and pain from him, and if he notices it, it can be even harder to get away without him attempting to help.
Loli is not a "pack animal" in the slightest. No, he'd rather work alone so he can pay better attention to everything around him, and he is incredibly skilled when alone. Because of his independence, Loli has been known to distance himself from other animals even when he isn't protecting the borders. However, he is not unfriendly. If he is approached, this male will allow others to join him, and will even joke around and talk to them. He does not actively seek the company of others and does not mind being alone.
Like most of his species, Loli is very sympathetic to other animals and will do everything it takes to make them feel safe and secure in their new home. He will spend as much time with them as they need to feel welcome, and he has been known to listen to the heartbreaking stories the creatures carry for hours. He relates to them more than some of the other dragons, simply because of his own torrid past.
His greatest strength would be his absolute, unquestioned loyalty to protecting his home and its inhabitants. Because of this loyalty, Loli would not hesitate to sacrifice his own life if it meant those he cared about would be spared. However, this loyalty is not blind. He is intelligent enough to be able to see all sides of a situation and make a decision based on the facts in front of him, not a predetermined "side" chosen for him.
His greatest weakness would be his headstrong, hardheaded nature. This male will not give up until he has no choice, often resulting in injuries to himself that take weeks to heal, simply because he tried too hard. He seems to not realize that he has limits just like every other living creature in this dimension, and many times others have to force him to stop before he will admit, albeit grudgingly, that he needs a break to rest.
All in all, Lólindir is an incredibly creature that is incredibly multifaceted. He is a proud, powerful creature with a heart of gold.
Why do you want him:
I've been asking myself how I'm going to word this since I started working on this form, and I still don't think any words will do him justice, but I have to try. I love how graceful he appears to be, with his flowing fur and tail and his simple markings. I also really like how simple his markings are, as that will make him easier to draw and eventually animate when I start teaching myself how to do so.
But the main reason I want him isn't just some physical attribute I can explain away. It isn't anything truly tangible, or even visible. How does one explain an immediate connection to a character? How can I put into words the way my heart cries out for him when I see him? I'm not really sure, but once again I have to try. It's as if Loli has already taken up residence in me, as another part of myself. I can feel his personality, his story is writing itself in my head as I type this now. My hand aches to draw him, to sketch him, even to attempt to paint him. My head longs to give him a voice and to make him come to life through art, both written and drawn. I simply long for him.
