Story:
.: Herding is fun! :.
Roho's green and white checked bandana flapped in the breeze as she herded her owner's chickens into their pens. One brown chicken wouldn't move from it's spot, content at snacking on some bugs flying around. Roho gave the chicken a little nip, which got her moving, and then herded her into her pen. Panting, Roho went over to her owner, Amy. "Good job, Roho!" Amy praised, setting a glass of lemonade with a cherry and lots of ice on the ground for Roho. The hot summer sun shone through the trees into the yard as Roho lapped at her drink. The chickens clucked in their pens, and Amy took off Roho's bandana, picked up her class, and the two went inside.
The next morning, Roho got up early and managed to get her bandana on without help from Amy, then went outside. Skillfully, she herded the chickens out of their pens and spread some feed on the ground by picking up the feed scoop with her teeth, dipping it into the feed back, and then spinning turning her head sideways while running around the yard until all the feed was out of the scoop. The chickens clucked as they eat the feed, and some even ate a few bugs that were flying around, too. Amy came outside and grinned. "You're the best, Roho!" She said. Roho cocked her head and thought, Herding is fun!
.: The storm :.
Roho took a sharp turn around the cherry tree. The lead cock went the other way, and the hens followed him. Roho's bandana flapped as she took another sharp turn. Roho cornered the cock and chased him into the pen. "Now to get the hens" she said. The hens had stopped moving and where now nipping bugs out of the air. Roho circled them, but they scattered. She managed to round round them into their pen, all except one. She finally managed to round it into the pen, and then sat down for a rest. After a few minutes, the wind picked up and a storm started blowing in. Roho checked the chickens one last time before going inside.
"Roho! Roho! Wake up!"
Roho blinked open her eyes to see Amy. "Roho, there was a hole in the pen, and the chickens got out! It's going to rain any minute, and when it does, it's going to pour!" Amy cried. Roho quickly got up and waited while Amy slipped her bandana around her neck, and then dashed outside. It was a mess. The chickens were everywhere, squeaking and flapping their wings. Roho cornered the lead cock, but he darted away. Roho was quicker, and with a little nip she sent him strait toward the pen. A black and white hen suddenly came strait toward Roho, but Roho moved aside so the hen ran straight into the pen. Suddenly, a raindrop fell onto Roho's nose. Oh no! Roho thought. I have to hurry!
She managed to get all the scattered hens together, but getting them into the pen wasn't easy. She finally managed to get them all in the pen, and then Amy came out and patched up the hole. The second they got inside, it started pouring. "You work so hard, Roho. I promise to take you to the beach, okay?" Amy smiled. Roho grinned and thought, Beach, here I come!
.: The beach :.
Roho dashed down the stone steps that led to the beach, Amy right behind her. When they reached the bottom of the steps, Roho jumped into the warm sand. She rolled on her back, her paws pawing the air. Amy laughed. "Come on, Roho, lets go find a place to sit" She said. When the found a spot, Amy spread out the special "beach blanket" and propped her umbrella up in the sand. Roho ran toward the water and waded in. When a wave would come, she would jump into it. After doing that for a while, Roho came out of the water and went over to Amy. They ate crackers with some cheese, and then Amy pulled out a surprise for Roho. It was a brand new Frisbee! Roho's eyes lit up as Amy got up and tossed it. Roho started chasing it, and with one leap, she caught it. Proudly, she took it back to Amy who tossed it again. When they finished playing Frisbee, Amy waded into the water with Roho and the two started swimming. When the sun started to set, the cicadas chirped, and the seagulls called, Roho and Amy packed their stuff up and started up the stone steps. What a great day. Roho thought, smiling.
.: A walk in the nature preserve :.
Roho jumped onto the path of the nature preserve excitedly. Amy and her were going on a walk! Roho paused to sniff an acorn that had dropped on the ground and then stood up and looked around. It was a nice, sunny day, perfect for a walk. She and Amy started down the path, watching as squirrels jumped from tree to tree. They passed a pond, and Amy spotted a turtle.
As they continued on their walk, Roho happily chased the little bugs flying around. Suddenly, she stopped. she thought she herd a kitten. Then she herd it again. Amy herd it, too, and she and Roho raced toward where the sound was coming from. Then they spotted it, a little ginger and white tabby kitten. It had fallen into the pond, and couldn't get out. Roho jumped into the water and swam towards the kitten. Then she grasped in by the scruff and swam back to shore.
Amy and Roho took the kitten home, and dried it off. "I know I shouldn't, but I have to keep you" Amy said, sitting on the couch with the kitten asleep in her lap. Roho looked up happily. Amy was keeping the kitten! Roho went over and sat on the couch next to Amy. "I'll call you Buttercup" Amy said, smiling. Roho thought Buttercup fitted the kitten very well, then she smiled and thought, I have a new friend!
.: The B-B-Q :.
Roho and Buttercup went onto the deck. They weren't at their house, but at one of Amy's cousins house for a B-B-Q. Music played from a radio, and a white tent thing was set up in the middle of the yard for shade. "This is awesome!" Buttercup said, happily snatching a piece a piece of food from the table. Roho and Buttercup went down the stairs, off the deck and onto the yard's grass. Miel and Sierra were there. They were owned by Casey, one of Amy's closest cousins. "Hi, Roho!" Miel said, smiling. "Hi, Miel, hi, Sierra. I want you to meet Buttercup. Me and Amy rescued her from a pond that she had fallen in" Roho said. "Hi, Buttercup!" Miel and Sierra said happily. Amy and Casey brought out some food for Roho, Buttercup, Miel, and Sierra, and then they all went under the tent thing.
After they ate, Sierra showed everyone the ball Casey had bought for him at Jewels. "Does anyone want to play?" Sierra asked. They all nodded, and Sierra gave the ball a bush with his head. Roho gave the ball a kick with her hind legs, and Miel passed it to Buttercup, who then passed it to Sierra.
After they played ball for a little while, Buttercup said "I'm hungry" and decided to go see if there was still food inside. Suddenly, she jumped out of the house. "They put the desserts out!" She cried happily. They all went inside to find Amy and Casey cutting into a cake. She went outside and set the plates with cake on them down for Roho, Buttercup, Miel, and Sierra. They ate the cake happily, and then they played tag. When the sun started to set, one of Amy's cousin, Richard, started a bonfire. Amy and Casey roasted themselves some marshmallows, and then roasted some for Roho, Buttercup, Miel, and Sierra. After they ate their marshmallows, they chased some fireflies. Finally, it was time to go home. Everyone said goodbye, and Roho and Buttercup looked at each other, smiling. I love B-B-Qs! They thought happily.
