indentwas everything as it seemed? cendrillon frowned, scrunching up her lovely features into an expression of displeasure, as
though she had been annoyed by the fact that she even had to think about it. flames crackled from the bottoms of her paws,
and as she raised her eyes to observe her handiwork, the glow from the city ablaze in front of her illuminated her face. this was
not a mistake or a misstep, but it may as well be.
indentone would certainly wonder why anyone in their right mind would choose to sacrifice such a city to become food for the
fire. cendrillon had to think about that to herself, as well. she wasn't dumb, oh no -- as someone who had been raised in the
depths of hell, both literally and figuratively, there were definitely things that she wasn't accustomed to. who would've thought
that setting things on fire wasn't the norm in the mortal world? not cendrillon, that's for sure.
indentthe tiger-patterned viscet had learned many things during her short stay in the mortal world so far. not only was she not
supposed to actually burn down a city, there were facts that cendrillon hadn't known about herself, either. it technically wasn't
her fault. cendrillon wasn't surprised to find out that she had been left in the dark for many things; the demons of hell probably
had good reason to keep her ignorant, as her smoldering passion for righteousness is not only overbearing, it had also created
many issues for the demons in the past.
indentof course, this begs a question. why on earth would cendrillon remain in hell, where she would certainly be miserable?
indent"hell is the only home i've ever known. who cares if i was born in the mortal world or whatever? they should have
thought twice before trading me off. they brought this upon themselves," she spat out bitterly, curling her paws into tight
fists, beating out the flames that had sparked and crackled at the tips of her claws. cendrillon hadn't planned on being angry.
even so, this much anger should be acceptable, right? it's only natural to feel the flames of fury burn at the edges of your heart,
smoky lies curling up and taunting you, wisps of fragmented memories being torn away from you.
indenteven among the demons, cendrillon was considered to be special. the flames bent to her will, and the embers crackled to
the rhythm of her footsteps. the fire loved her, and in return, she accepted the hellfire without thinking of the consequences.
no one in hell had ever seen someone play with the fire like cendrillon had done, especially since she had the constitution of
a mortal being. her body was supposed to be weak, yet why was she able to withstand those flames?
indenttheoretically, that should be an easy question to answer. however, as always, the demons hide their secrets to protect
themselves. they all knew how terrifying cendrillon was when she was riled up. just look at the way she laid waste to that city!
although demons weren't afraid of fire, the flames that the butterfly tufted viscet hurled at the buildings would continue to
ravage the structures until nothing remained. even if demons loved fire, they were still wary of cendrillon and her fire.
indent"such fools, the lot of them," she hissed, slowly lowering her face into her paws, allowing the flames to jump up and lick
gently at her fur. the flames seared her skin slightly, but cendrillon didn't change her position. she knew that the fire would
never dare to burn or scar her. the fire loved her yet feared her at the same time. they whispered encouraging words to her in
their own language, and cendrillon's searing gaze cracked slightly.
indentnothing was ever as it seemed. the fire loved cendrillon so much, yet she never reciprocated the feelings. a mortal viscet
raised among the demons would never have a story that'd end in happiness. hell, cendrillon wasn't even from the mortal world.
indentin this universe, she was nothing more than a simple bargaining chip who had too much power for her own good. heaven
had their own motives for sending cendrillon down to hell, and hell had their reasons in setting her free to unleash her rage on
the mortal world. it was at times like this that the tiger-patterned viscet truly wished that the flames would revolt and burn
her instead. it probably would've been a lot kinder of a fate than she'd be receiving in the future.
indentdid cendrillon want to live? not in particular, especially after the series of mishaps with the demons and the fire that
loved her a little too much. as upset as she was, she understood that she was a threat to every living being in the mortal world.
she wasn't fond of the idea of becoming a terrorist, so as cendrillon stroked her long tusks thoughtfully, she formulated a plan
in her head.
indentsentencing herself to reclusion was definitely a lot safer than staying in the open and actively setting things on fire. she
would have time to rediscover herself and have a heart-to-heart talk to the fire inside of her. upon rising to the mortal world,
there were many things that cendrillon hadn't known, as well as things that turned out to be lies fabricated by the demons for
their own benefits. she would have time to set herself at peace. while cendrillon wouldn't never be able to make amends with
the young, bright-eyed viscet she used to be, there were certain things that she could do to change her destiny.
indentperhaps... maybe then... she would finally be eaten by the flames of her passion that she loathed so much. wouldn't it be
such a fitting ending for her? cendrillon, of the ash, being forced to bite the dust of the one thing that appeared to love her
the most.
indentthe flames would hurt her in ways that other viscets would never understand.

indentalthough cendrillon despised the fire and everything it stood for, she couldn't keep herself from returning to the fire. if
she had to come up with an analogy for the source of her misfortune, then the saber-toothed viscet would say something along
the lines of how she was a mere moth, attracted to firelight even if the flickering flames would burn her wings away to a crisp
and leaving her to plummet to the ground, wingless.
indent... perhaps her description was a little more morbid than what would've been just acceptable. it wasn't like she really
cared, per se; she was standing amidst the flames, perched on top of a spire that appeared to reach for the clouds, and it'd be
more surprising if cendrillon had been happy with her current conditions. regardless of the sorts of emotions that were going
through her mind, the butterfly-tufted viscet raised an inquisitive eyebrow at the sight of a smoky figure traveling down the
streets, almost as if they were unaware of the fact that everything around them was burning. while cendrillon had half the mind
to just leave the other viscet be and walk to their deaths, she reckoned that she had created enough trouble during the first
few days of staying in the mortal world. maybe helping someone out and pointing them to the right direction would make her
feel a little bit better.
indentas she agilely hopped down from where she had been standing, cendrillon made her way towards the figure. there were
many times that the saber-toothed viscet thought she had lost the other viscet in the flames, but as she continued to tread on
the path that the other viscet would've taken, the black furred viscet in front of her didn't seem to be going anywhere. soon
enough, cendrillon realized that the other viscet hadn't noticed how she had been tailing him, and with an annoyed flick of
her tail, she breathed out a soft sigh.
indentthat had been a mistake. when cendrillon inhaled deeply shortly after, she choked slightly on the smoke and ash that had
shrouded the city in blanket of darkness. her gasps and wheezes ended up catching the attention of the other viscet quicker
than following them, and as cendrillon doubled over in an attempt to regain her bearings, the black furred viscet made their
way up to her.
indent"hey, you oka-- wait, cendrillon? what are you doing here?"
indentstartled at the sudden mention of her name, cendrillon lifted her head in confusion. her orange eyes widened slightly at
the sight of the viscet standing in front of her, and as she hurried to straighten herself up, she flattened her ears against the
skull of her head, raising her hackles warily. "ahh... it's you."
indentthe other viscet shifted nervously under cendrillon's heated stare, and when he raised his head, the butterfly-tufted
viscet bared her sharp teeth as a warning. the other viscet let out a small laugh, shifting his weight from paw to paw as he
returned cendrillon's look. "it's certainly been a while, hasn't it? i wasn't aware that you were sent to the mortal world as well.
it would've been nice if you had given me a heads up of sorts, you know? i was wondering which maniac it had been to set this
place on fire. looks like i have my answer now."
indent"if i had known that you were the one who was purposefully walking towards the flames, then i wouldn't have gone up
to you at all. you could burn for all i care," she muttered, flinching slightly as she felt the familiar sensation of the crackling
sparks of fire as they tried to envelope her. "it's nice to see that you're still around, i suppose. i'll be taking my leave now,
xingfeng. i haven't forgotten about what you've done, and if you think that i'll forgive you, then you're delusional."
indentwith that, cendrillon swiveled around and hurried away, spewing embers and smoke into the sky with every step she took.
she told herself that even if xingfeng spoke up again, she'd just ignore him and move on, but cendrillon soon found that her body
did the exact opposite upon hearing the other viscet's familiar voice. her footsteps slowed, and although she screamed at herself
to get moving, she just couldn't bring herself to walk away from the viscet who she had trusted so much, the viscet who made
her feel safe, the viscet who basically set off the war between heaven and hell.
indent"i know that there's nothing i could possibly say to make things up to you, but i'm sorry. you're right for hating me. i hate
myself as well."
indent"did you ever stop to think how your actions would've hurt me as well?"
indent"no, never. i'm sorry."
indent"it's a little too late for apologies, xingfeng!" cendrillon yelled out, and with a swift swipe with her arm, she created a tall
wall of fire between them. fueled by the saber-toothed viscet's unsuppressed emotions, the fire burned brighter than ever, and
through her rage, cendrillon was unable to take in anything else. she attempted to calm herself down, but upon remembering
how she was still surrounded by smoke, her body began to shake uncontrollably at the fact she didn't have an outlet for her anger.
indentunable to hold herself back anymore, cendrillon quickly turned around to flee once more. leaving xingfeng there was fine;
the former demon would find a way to free himself, anyways. what's more troubling to her was the fact that he had been able to
see her weak side yet again. she didn't want to see xingfeng ever again.
indentwith each passing moment, the idea of seclusion appealed to cendrillon more and more. she had a plan; she had spotted
mountain peaks earlier on, and although cendrillon wasn't sure what she was going to do after she reached the mountains, it
was a start. this would be her life, away from hell and civilization.
