The first half of Applefern's name refers to the colours on her pelt. In Wishclan, Apple also stands for how sweet and friendly a cat was/is as a kit. It suited her more the older she got when she became very skilled in remembering things and was extremely kind and gentle with the other kits as well as friendly to all the other cats.
The other half of her name, fern, to Wishclan stands for quirkiness, friendliness and kindness. Chosing the path of a medicine cat, Applefern took on a quirky sense of humour to help her patients forget about their pain. She was very kind with her patients and never lost her temper, as well as being friendly to all the cats - including those from other clans or were not clan cats at all.

GentleTalon was first known as Whisper for his soft and quiet nature. He didn't speak out and usually kept to himself. When he stumbled on ThistleClan, he was given the name GentlePaw before he became a ranger. He was still quiet and and indeed gentle. Though as he trained to become a ranger, he exceeded in taking down large birds like hawks and young eagles, earning the suffix 'Talon' for his acquired skill and for the fact that he kept the Talon of his first large kill as a good luck charm.

Brightcloud has not always been known by this name. In a past life she was a loner named Fawny with no family. She was found trespassing by a patrol on OceanClan territory one leaf-bare, scrawny and dishevelled, looking for scraps of food. Her fur stood out in the dark undergrowth of the forest, as if she was glowing. Instead of chasing the molly from their territory, Sealstar took pity on her. The thought of being alone and constantly fending for yourself was saddening to Sealstar, she empathised with her and invited her to OceanClan. She was named Brightpaw for her pelt colour as it was the reason the patrol had seen her. Although reluctant at first, Brightpaw began to show her true colours quickly. She was a calm and soothing presence, able to pacify even the most worrisome of cats. Other clan members began to go to her for help, even for menial tasks or simple consoling. Her apprenticeship lasted longer than most, she was a poor hunter and an even worse hunter. She was honoured with the warrior name Brightcloud due to her nature, soft and gentle, just like a cloud. To this day she is one of the most respected warriors in the clan, proving that you don’t need to be amazing at hunting or fighting to be a warrior.

Kalinka sat, pensive, while she thought. In her mind rang the hurried sounds of the man's fingertips at the piano key's, playing his energetic rendition of Kalinka- the song she was named for. She could almost hear the piano and feel the sofa she sat on then, while she thought. Her memory was so vivid, and she felt a purr rumble through her as she thought she felt the old lady, her beloved pianists wife, scratching her ears, mumbling the Russian lyrics as she swayed to and fro to the music.

"Kalinka?"

Kalinka jumped as a voice sounded from behind her, and all at once, the music, the piano, the man, the woman, and the sofa were gone. She felt the fur rise on her spine as she stared out at the ocean, dark and foreboding, which was a few feet down from her, lapping at the shoreline like a hungry beast. It was a windy night- she was in the forest- and there was no music.

The cat addressing her was Edgewalker.

"Oh. It's you." She said quickly, getting to her paws. She felt her face warm slightly as she noticed her pelt was muddied by the sand and damp earth around her. A fierce rainstorm has engulfed the coast only two hours before, and the land was still wet. She shook her fur out and gave the tom an embarrassed face. His response was simply to twitch his whiskers- was he laughing at her?- and wave his tail as he turned away. "Come, it's time."

Kalinka knew what this meant. She was being accepted into their little group, a 'clan'. She was to be granted a name. Yet right now, after her vivid memory, and with the tune of Kalinka still being seemingly sung by the very wind around her, she felt a sick, painful feeling within her. She didn't want to have her name changed. It was the memory she had of her beloved humans, and of their music, their beautiful music! She felt tears as she followed the tom, and had to hurry dry them as he turned to her.

"Hurry, everyone's waiting." He said with no emotion, ducking into the bushes. Or at least, he meant to. He felt a gentle paw on his shoulder, and quickly stepped back out, giving Kalinka an impatient glare. "What?"

"Must I?" She asked.

"Yes." He replied.

"Then..." She began, taking in a deep breath. "My owners used to call me their snowberry. I... I don't know, I think it connected to whatever a kalinka was. It means a lot to me. Even though I'm joining you, my heart is still back there. I want my name to reflect that."

There was an odd flash in the tom's eyes. Was it hurt? She wasn't sure. Yet he slowly nudged her paw away, and nodded. "I take it you want to be named Snowberry?" He asked.

She nodded.

He nodded, and headed into the underbrush. Kalinka- in her last moments of her name- took a final look back at the city. And then, she followed.

Originally, she was to be Dawnwhisker, for her soft, pale sunrise colored coat and gentle voice, but she approached Coldstar with her request just before her ceremony, and he readily agreed.
