Writing: The wind ripped through velvet’s mane, cool mountain air streaming around her. She lived for the days when she could run free and uninhibited, one of the many perks that came along with earning her owner’s trust. It was this trust that allowed her to bend and break many rules that the other tolters on her farm had to follow. Today she had headed into the mountains, one of her favorite places to explore. The terrain could be a bit tough and she always had to be aware for dangerous creatures, but the sights smells and feelings made it entirely worth it. She let out a carefree whinny of excitement and plunged down the slope towards the mountain stream, water rushing between the rocks. It was at that moment her heart caught in her chest- it was a horse, but it smelled different. It’s coat was more rugged, yet still sleek and thick. It snorted in warning, ears threatening to go back.

"It's alright, I'm a friend" Velvet insisted, sure that anything she did suspicious might only frighten it off even more, and she was extremely curious about the equine. "What's your name?" She asked, figuring that would be the best place to start. It looked her up and down, not speaking, apparently finding it's name unimportant to add. Great.

She waited a few moments, but gave up, realizing no answer was on the way. "I'm Velvet, I'm from the farm a little ways away, where are you from?" For a moment she thought that she would get no reply to this either, but they laughed, a warm, almost devious smile spreading across their face. "Haven't you figured it out yet? I have no specific home that you speak of, I'm wild my dear. You're in my home right now" With that, they reared up on their hind legs and bolted off, heading upstream up the mountain. She was astounded at the speed and dexterity with which they climbed the slope, making her attempts seem pitiful and weak, even though she improved every time that she tried.

She watched in awe for a moment before deciding to follow, her curiosity yet again getting the better of her. She crossed the stream relatively easily, and begun the trek up the side of the mountain. Rocks and boulders blocked her path occasionally, and all she had was the strange scent of the wild equine to follow, long gone from her sights.

Just as she thought all hope was lost and her stamina was wearing thin, she stumbled into a clearing of trees on the side of the mountain, just large enough for a group of horses. And in fact, that's exactly what she found. Not only did she meet a single wild horse, but she had just landed smack dab in the middle of where the herd slept. It was small, but most likely to keep their presence low to enemies, and she was astounded that they could truly live like this.
