as you and the others traverse the untamed wilderness in silence, you reminisce on your time in the kingdom;
it had been quaint, friendly. those are the first words that come to mind. the kingdom had been very different from what you'd thought it'd be when you first heard of it and when you'd first arrived. it wasnt too big but not terribly small either, and you might even call it cute in some aspects. it had all the appeal of a small country town and a bustling city kingdom combined, and you found it much more of a joy to be there than you'd thought it'd be, even despite the many trials and quests you underwent during your stay. the folks there had been very welcoming too, and you had been surprised, considering where you'd come from, where outsiders were not regarded so highly unless they had fanciful items or shiny jewels and coins to speak of.
your mind drifts as time passes and progress is made, and you find yourself unable to focus on a single thought for very long after that. you allow your mind to roam freely, and you end up thinking about a lot of things. how you'll get to the next town, if there is one; if you'll find another place suitable to set up camp for the night, if need be; what if you meet another dragon, or something possibly worse?
as the night begins to settle on the world and the sky grows dark and fills with stars, you and your party members set up a tent and small fire, rationing the some of the food you'd gathered from the town before you'd left. though the night is cold, the warmth of the fire provides a nice contrast.
for awhile, the silence that settles on your makeshift camp is welcomed, and you let your thoughts roam again. however, the quiet doesnt last. a rustle from a nearby bush spooks miss margaret and wiyby, and you reach for your wand instinctively.
the rustling continues for a few moments before abruptly stopping, and a strange, strange little creature hops out of the bush and settles by the fire. it makes no move to attack any of you, but it also doesnt even pretend to notice you either.
miss margaret laughs, while miss wiyby looks a bit disturbed, but nonetheless puts away her weapon. you follow suit out of courtesy, instead deciding to watch the strange creature--a bit like a rabbit, a bit like a deer, a bit something else, perhaps--and wondering if it had followed you three this whole time.
it'd be quite silly if it had.
