Diwali :: The festival of Lights.
as a child, Dmitri had grown up in a religious home, his grandparents and relatives often telling him stories and parables about their religion, Buddhism. Dmitri himself was always interested in these stories, listening to his aunt or uncle, or even cousin tell him about the legends and tales of the religion he had adopted through birth. as his aunt came to visit his household, she began telling him various stories of a celebration called Diwali. Dmitri listened contently as the name was spoken, beckoning her to tell more of the strange event he had not heard of until now.
as the story begun, Diwali was told to be the biggest celebration in their religion, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists alike around the world. Various people from all different walks of life, a term which here means from different jobs and various levels of society, decorate their homes with earthenware oil lamps, candles and a variety of candles often used called diyas.
In India the festival is known as Deepavali, a five-day festival celebrated to commemorate the return of Ram, the lord of Virtue, after 14 years of exile away from his kingdom. For many others in India, the event is often used to celebrate the end of harvest season and is used for the chance of giving thanks to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity, who Dmitri had often heard about in the stories his cousin often told.
While the story behind Diwali and the manner of celebration varies from region to region, the festival is celebrated to remember that light triumphs over dark and good triumphs over evil.
At the age of fourteen, Dmitri had celebrated his first Diwali with his family. they had scattered the ceilings with oil lamps, the window sills with candles, and one by one lit them on fire to shine their light within and outside the house. as many other residents began to light their candles, inside their little home, Dmitri and his family lay in a circle upon the rug as he lit the finale diyas.

kalon name;; Sentosa Esplanade (coming from the Malay word for "peace and tranquility", and from Sanskrit, Santosha)
favorite festival? {max 500 words} Being born in the warm, humid tropics of a little (but fierce) island hardly large enough to make it on the map Sen incessantly craves all things cold and refreshing. One day, upon completing her daily workout routine (of getting out of bed, freshening up and running erans in the 37 °C sauna-esque heat) a warm breeze of air blew a large, wet, palm leaf onto her face.
Just great. Muttering and complaining to herself she gingerly peeled the supposed palm leaf off by its spine and holding it by one of its pages Sen proceeded to---
Wait a minute...
Hold up now?
Palm leaves don't have spines and pages?
Upon closer inspection the short-sighted and now puzzled Kalon noticed that, although slightly faded, this "palm leaf" was no leaf at all, in fact in large bolded letters printed neatly at the top read the words Carnaval de Québec. Sen hurried into a nearby hawker centre for some shade and ordered her favourite icy treat, ice kachang. Eyes still glued like magnets to a cold fridge she breezed through the informational magazine; instantly transporting herself to the icy wonderland that was Québec.
That day Sen worked through five entire bowls of ice kachang, flipping through the pages of that enticing magazine time and time again, mentally slipping into the cool, wintry north to ride on toboggans and shake hands with Bonhomme. After the experience Sen vowed to herself to never rest 'till she could one day do those exact things and truly get to experience the snow on her fur.
Sen now works part time making the icy-treats she loves so much, all the while dreaming of that refreshing, gelid paradise that got closer to her each passing day...

optional art (explanation): I apologize if this is against the rules; I will take it out immediately if so, this short blurb is just to explain the humanized form and choice of colours. ^^
The palette in this design instantly reminded me of Singapore (specifically the Singaporean flag) the delicate cherry-blossom resembling flowers gave a gorgeous asiatic feel that further pushed me to try to develop an "Asian" character which I felt would be more obviously depicted in a humanized form. (At least skin tone wise)
The background colours are reminiscent of one of Singapore's favourite treats ice kachang.
