How They Deal w/ Deafness: (75 words or more) Serenity doesn't quite mind. The silence of the world doesn't bother her much, but it can get lonely. However, she uses her other senses, especially her hooves and sense of smell. With her hooves, Serenity is able to tell the difference between each horse of her herd and each human on the barn. Some have light, elegant footsteps while others are heavy and proud. As for her sense of smell, it is phenomenal! She is able detect treats in someone's pockets very quickly and recogonize someone by their scent. It's very hard to sneak something or someone past her nose.
One thing to mention, Serenity doesn't talk. She's mute. She speaks instead with facial expressions, her eyes (mostly), and body language. From little nudges to piercing glares, Serenity is able to hold conversation to an extent with this. Overall, her deafness doesn't bother her. If anything, Serenity is proud of it and believes that it makes it makes her unique and who she is.
Halter Color: Same as her eyes, please!

How They Deal w/ Deafness:
Although my ears appear fine, swivel and pivot with ease, they are far from perfect. I was born hearing nothing but what others call silence.
Caroline was born deaf and will always be deaf. The white covering her ears was a warning sign, which her mother appreciated immediately. Instead of nickering to her filly, the mare nudged her cheek instead - and so began Caroline's journey. Besides learning how to read lips, Caroline learned the art of body language. Every tail swish, head drop, and ear movement means something to her that others would hardly pick up. And, even though she can speak with her dainty voice easily, she prefers to answer in body language as well. It's her sort of sign language, that which she appreciates immensely. Even though Caroline is a little different from the rest of her herd, she sees herself as just another tolter. She is not her disability, but rather an important member of her society.

How They Deal w/ Deafness:

Owl doesn't necessarily understand that he is deaf, but he know's that he's missing something that almost everyone else has. There are times when all of the horses in the barn will startle or turn to look at something for reasons that aren't apparent to him. Over the years, he's learned that some of those things could bring harm to him or the others. He deals with his lack of hearing by keeping a close eye on the horses around him. While his sense of smell often suffices to alert him to any immediate danger, like predators, his sight is a huge help to him. Owl stays vigilant when out in the field, making sure not to let and danger come to the herd or himself. If he sees the others start to react to something, he wastes no time trying to investigate the cause, he just follows them. He assumes the horses around are smart enough to react appropriately to different situations, so he figures that following suit is the best thing to do. Given that he's never known what being able to hear is like, he doesn't know what he's missing out on. It's much more trivial than emotional to him.

How They Deal w/ Deafness: Amethyst - being born without being able to hear the world around her - never realized anything was different about herself. She quickly learned from her mother and other herd members how to read body language to figure out what others were saying to her. Her sense of smell had always been fantastic and typically she was able to sense danger and food just fine on her own. Of course, she had a friend who stuck by her through everything. Gabe is very protective of her and even though he knows she is deaf he typically lets her figure the world out on her own. He only steps in if she is having a problem with something or if there is something happening that she hadn't picked up. At first, it annoyed her that her friend constantly tried to help her and intervened at times, but she grew used to his company and eventually accepted it. Amethyst still hasn't quite figured out that she is different from anyone else and Gabe likes to keep it that way.

How They Deal w/ Deafness: Never having been able to hear before, Caraval has no concept of sound. She has however, noticed her herd react strangely to invisible things. They would jump and rear in alarm when the humans with the pointy stick waved it about in the air. They would run startled to the nearest shelter when the sky darkened and light flashed across the sky.
Caraval has learnt to read the herd, their body language, ready to react if something should startle/endanger them. She learned that there was something that she didn't know about, she couldn't pick up on and that was okay. Her sense of smell is very keen, she can almost smell certain sounds.
