dear diary,
I am mute. I am unable to speak my mind, or tell anyone how I feel. No one knows what it's like, and how much it kills me to be unable to thank someone for a gift.. Or to only be able to communicate through means of writing. Why can't I be something more? I cant even speak my mind, and the worst thing of it all is that I will never be able to sing again... This is Vespertilio. His name means Bat in Latin. He is a very somber, sarcastic, and tough jewelie. His only nickname is Vesp, and his pet fruit bat calls him that. His mother and father called him Vespy, but that was a long time ago, before he moved out. As soon as I saw Vesp, I knew that I must adopt him. I love his dark design....

Like I said, somber. He rarely laughs or smiles, but he is also brave. He will help someone in danger, he has good heart in general. Although he is quite sarcastic, if you get to know Vesp, he can be good to talk with. That is, if you can even find his cave- and if he'll be willing to talk to you.

Vesp doesn't have many hobbies, but he loves discovering things. Sometimes he spends hours in the woods finding stones, pinecones, leaves, you name it. He also loves to sleep. He sleeps a LOT! His secret hobby is singing. He sings songs of his own composure, if you ask him about it, he'll glare at you, but it's true. Vesp loves to sing. Also, he likes running. Only at nighttime, he'll run through the woods in the moonlight, with his bat at his side.

Vespertilio is a male through and through. He gets defensive about it and will likely snarl at you if you mistake him for a female. He HATES that. Although, not many people do mistake him for a female since almost no one sees him, you'd better watch out if you do.

Vespertilio was not raised with his parents for long. As soon as he was old enough to take care of himself, he decided he wanted to leave his parents and go live alone. He slept as the sun rose, and woke as it set. He never could be in the direct light. It made him slightly uncomfortable. As he grew older, he used his gem to make the trees grow as he walked, so he could be shaded from the light further. Vespertilio never met someone who he could bond to. He sadly never grew attached to anyone, everyone he met thought him unfriendly. This eventually turned Vespertilio into the somber, sarcastic jewel he is. On his journey, he found a small cave which he decided to call his new home. Even now, though, a sliver of kindness remains in his heart. He tries his best to take care of the plants that grow around his cave, even if he can only go see them at night. Every once in a while, someone will drop by his cave, but he will usually make the ivy over his home grow thick, so no one can see it. He has one friend, and that is a fruit bat that lives in the cave with him. They often talk to each other for hours at night, and afterwards, Vesp will go out hunting for mice. He sings until the sun comes up, and then he falls asleep, as it is daylight. Sometimes Vespertilio will think of his past. Would it have been different for him if he had stayed with his parents? Would he be... normal? But he usually pushes the though aside. Vesp sometimes tries to step into the daylight, but he cannot see in the light anymore. He's become accustomed to the dark, like his fruit bat. Vespertilio has a faint memory of being able to see the sun. He remembers a glowing ball of light, but nothing much more after that. He asks his fruit bat what it looks like, but the bat cannot see in the sun. But if he really thinks about it, he's happy with his life, although he tries not to show it.

Vespertilio didn't have the best childhood. His parents loved him, of course, but he didn't love them back. He decided to leave, and true to his word, he left. Along his way, he had to fight so many things. Big animals who didn't want him on their territory. He was forced to become tough, he never would have survived if he wasn't. All this happened to him as a child, he made a few traveling friends, but they all parted ways and Vespertilio hasn't heard from them since they said goodbye.
