i'm back from my trip,,,,, it's horsie time <3 happy lunar new year, everyone! i do apologise to any horse enthusiasts in the audience, i have never done horse patterning before HJFDHJFD

this kal is preparing for something - what is it? you can elaborate on how they're preparing if you like! anything cs-appropriate goes. we'll have a soft word limit of 150 words, or you can do a quick sketch if you so choose!

For a moment, Meixi thought she’d turn tail and run - away from
the spotlight and the roaring crowd. Yet, she stood firmly rooted
to the spot. Everything she had been working towards, the countless
hours, the numerous bruises, the sacrifice of a normal life, brought
her to this moment. Meixi must withstand the pressure that
threatened to squash her. There was no other path.

Meixi’s coach grabbed her shoulder and she turned to face him,
mouth set into a grim line.

“This is it, Mei,” he murmured. “And you know what I’ve always said.”

She swallowed. “This is my year. My moment.”

“Breathe,” he smiled. “Three points stand between you and the gold
medal. Take it.”

The nerves screaming at her disappeared the moment she stepped
onto the ice. A deafening silence came over her. It was her time,
and she would not let her preparations go to waste.

a puff of perfume, the essence of the fresh wildflowers, a long session of combing every single strand of hair on her head, tail and coat, fully shining her iridescence until the sun reflected off it like a dazzling mirror. with a cute bow to bind her tail (and a matching one to gift her date later on) the preparations were complete, and cider was ready for a day out in the meadow, munching on her favourite treat and listening to a beautiful kalon talk about her beloved orchard. 🎀

Magnolia clears her throat and scrutinizes herself in the dingy mirror she's got propped up on the windowsill in front of her. The lighting in here is terrible; half the building's roof is gone, and the setting sun is lighting her up in gold.

She sidesteps until she can see herself, and practices her smile. It's stiff. Nonetheless, she tries again. "Hi! I'm Magnolia."

At her feet, a white chicken putters around inspecting the rubble for seeds. Magnolia looks down and grimaces. "Ugh. I'm not very good at this anymore, Tallulah."

The hen produces a conversational cluck. Magnolia shrugs. "I was like, seven when the zombie virus really started killing people. It's been three months since we even said hi to someone. Oh my god." She takes a breath, planting her hands on her hips and staring into the mirror.

"Okay, Magnolia. You're going to the Wells' settlement. You need to barter for food, and they're the last farm standing. You have to be nice: win them over. Convince 'em you're not a threat. Say hi, introduce yourself, get some corn."

Her mouth waters just saying the word 'corn' out loud. "Corn," she repeats. "I can do this for corn."

She softens her posture, minimizes her height. There's a trick to it, mitigating the muscles she's been defining for years, taking down rabid zombies. She pulls her hair over her shoulder, and that gentles her face further. "They're just people," she mutters. "People who don't even wanna eat you! That's a nice change. Right, Tallulah?"

The chicken clucks.

well, that's all very lovely, but it doesn't help her figure out how she's going to get out of the shop with all these mannequins blocking her path...
