Name: March
What's their trinket?:
sourceIt hadn't exactly been March's choice to move her and her gnomes onto her older sister
May's farm. She'd just meant to crash for a couple weeks after a bad breakup, but then she'd lost her job and it'd just been a massive downward spiral since then.
At least she had her vast garden gnome collection. In between helping out with farm chores (May's version of rent), desperately flinging out resumes, and trying not to drain her entire savings account, March spent most of her time polishing her eclectic collection so that they were in tip top shape.
They overfilled her borrowed shelves, squished too close together for March to assemble the little scenes she loved so much. Oh, she tried. She could tell you stories about how this chef gnome was in a spat with his roommate because the roommate kept stealing all the flour to make playdough for the preschool, or about how the various fishing gnomes were trying to help their buddy woo the florist gnome but kept mixing up the language of flowers. Alas, it wasn't the same as it used to be.
Of course, gnomes had a tendency to wander. March didn't mind; it was good for them to get some fresh air. Whether they hung out in the kitchen or planted seeds in the garden, she applauded them for having a bit of fun during this dreary time.
May didn't seem to feel the same way if the shriek that came from the direction of the bathroom was any indication.
With a sigh, March kept her gaze focused on her laptop screen and the job application she was banging out. It wasn't her fault, whatever her gnomes were doing. She'd just have to ignore it...
...right until her big sister barged into her room and slammed a mermaid gnome on the keyboard in front of her.
"Hey!" March said, glaring up at May. "Didn't you learn to knock?"
May was definitely spitting mad, the way her eyes squinched and her lips thinned. "This... this thing was watching me, from the sink. Would you care to explain?"
"Oh, that's where Finley went." March kept her voice cool. "I was wondering."
May ground her teeth as she glowered down at her sister. "Don't you lie to me. I know you've been hiding gnomes all over the house."
"They need to get fresh air sometimes. It's not my fault they hide in places that bother you." It totally was.
There was a sharp intake of breath as May struggled to keep her temper under control. "This is the rubber ducks all over again, isn't it."
March rolled her eyes. "You and I both know Mom started that one. Be nice to the gnomes, okay? They don't want to be stuck here any more than I do."
"I hate you." With true sibling irritation, May flounced out.
So that was the true purpose of the gnomes, really: annoying her big sister. The more the merrier, right?
