As Solani patrolled her territories near her clan's border, she felt herself being watched and thought she picked up a sound behind her with her sharp, radar-like ears. But before she could turn to see what it was, she felt two paws on her eyes.
"Guess who!!!"
Solani finally breathed a sigh of relief when she recognized the voice and removed her former friend's paws from her eyes, protesting. "What are you doing, crazy cat? You almost gave me a heart attack! I could have attacked you!" When she turned to look at her, she realized how much Catalina had grown in all this time, almost as much as she had. "What are you doing here anyway?"
"I found something that brought back some good memories, and I thought you'd want to see it." Catalina smiled and showed her a small, shiny, yellowish-green gem.
Solani's eyes widened. She remembered that shiny little rock, she remembered that day. It had been a great day for both of them, one of the last times they saw each other.
"I remember... Oh, I do, what a day... You tried to climb those rocks with your claws and they all fell off, you almost gave me a heart attack... you almost always give me a heart attack. You have to be more careful, really."
"I'm still alive, aren't I? And that time it worked out well too. I managed to take flight in time and we discovered the entrance to that unexplored cave. A great adventure."

"You kept trying to climb everything and it wasn’t fun. I thought you'd fall again. You were so irresponsible," Solani scolded her, then sighed and smiled. “But yeah, I guess we did have a great time. There were tons of tunnels and passageways behind the rocks to explore, and when we found that green gem, then a yellow one, an orange one, and followed them into that large chamber filled with precious stones from floor to ceiling… Wow, I just remember getting lost in their shine for a moment…” She spoke as if fascinated by the memory, then looked at Catalina with a frown, “…and then being knocked down and looking up to see you climbing the walls again, so you could see each gem up close.”

“They deserved a closer look; they were so beautiful and of so many different kinds… Citrines, topazes, olivines, rubies and zoicites all around them, fluorites of every color…!!! It was a complete catalog, and had never been seen before!” Catalina defended herself, using her little paw to adjust her glasses, which occasionally slipped down the bridge of her nose.
“And you had to take a piece?”
Catalina paled, her ears lowered for a moment; she knew the that argument was coming.
“Obviously!!! I wasn't planning on taking them all, just one. And don't even think about blaming me for the earthquake and the entrance collapsing just as we managed to escape. Picking up a single peridotite the size of my beans doesn't cause an entire mountain to shake, especially when it almost effortlessly fell into my paw.”
“No, yeah… I know, I know… I'm aware of that…” Solani rubbed the bridge of her nose with her paw, trying to calm herself; she didn't want to argue with her old friend, whom she hadn't seen in so long. “But I'm still upset, it's a shame. I loved that cave…” She sighed sadly. “You know I haven't been able to find it again in all this time.”
“Really? Well, you know what? I think we should meet up sometime, like when we were kids, and try to find it. What do you think?”
