Name: Cass
Gender: DFAB
Prompt: While many of the traits Cass possesses are shared with a bat, one may not be quite so obvious. Although the phrase “blind as a bat” is an exaggeration, Cass can still relate. She has been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that will slowly rob her of her vision as the years fly by. While her vision currently is mostly fine, she does struggle a bit more at night time, meaning the disease is already starting to take its toll.

Cass has worked hard to stay on top of things, and has already started to seek help to ensure that she can remain independent even as her vision continues to decline. While looking up resources at her local Lighthouse charity and beginning to consider orientation and mobility training with a white cane, Cass encountered something that would change her life forever, and captured her interest. At the Lighthouse charity that day were guide dogs in training, interacting with those with low/no vision, introducing them to a whole new option to help them navigate their vision loss. For Cass, who would still have normal vision (at least in the daytime) for at least a few more years, she wanted to be apart of this training team, helping as many people in need of a lifeline like this before she herself would find herself in need.

Little did she know, it isn’t easy to become a guide dog trainer! You have to start at the very bottom, doing all the dirty work - cleaning kennels, all that jazz. If you prove yourself here, you may be considered as an apprentice trainer, working for three long years to become certified. Through grit, perseverance, and determination, Cass is happy to share that she pushed through and was able to earn an apprenticeship! She is learning how to train dogs to navigate stress crossings, stop at obstacles the handler cannot see such as tripping hazards or low hanging branches, and even teaching the dogs how to stop for cars to keep their future handlers safe from being hit on accident. After periods of training, the trainers are given blindfolds while working dogs to test that the dogs can really do what they have been trained for safely. Cass is more prepared than the rest of the trainers for this; she’s already been practicing her skills for the day she does go blind.

While Cass knows this dream job of hers is only temporary, she is soaking in every minute of it while she still can. She feels immense amounts of pride knowing how many people just like her she’s been able to help. It’s rewarding to watching them gain back their independence. Once she loses her sight, she may not be able to hold on to this dream, but at least she will be on the receiving end of one of these miracle dogs who will keep her out of harms way - a legacy of all her hard work and dedication.

Echo

DFAB

Prompt:
Growing up, Echo has always been a lover of things most others considered to be "weird". While all her peers were busy dreaming about the joys of becoming "normal" things like teachers, nurses, or IT technicians, Echo had different dreams...much different. She has always enjoyed learning about how to conserve wildlife, especially species with dwindling numbers. The thought of such sweet creatures such as grey wolves, panthers, and pandas becoming extinct in a matter of a few years shatters her heart. Therefore, she has made it her goal to become a wildlife conversationalist and do her absolute best to help save some of the endangered and critically at risk species around the world! <3

    Name: Susan
    Gender: DFAB
    Prompt:
Susan has the privilege of already having her dream job! She owns and operates a tiny stationary shop, along with her black cat Beau. Her storefront only being a block away from the beach, she takes frequent walks along the shore.

On a regular day, one might find Susan tidying up the stamps and stickers, or perhaps unboxing some brand new journals sourced from a small business. On the first of every month (her personal favorite day!) she resets the large bay window that sits at the front of the store. Currently themed "Beach Vacation for Christmas", soft blues and yellow florals are the pick of the season. She often adds handmade items done either on her own, or by local small businesses around town such as quilts, clothing, and even stuffies.
Additionally amongst the actual merchandise so delicately and lovingly arranged, there is a round plush bed in the corner where Beau spends most of his time. Typically only hopping down to greet customers with a sweet chirrup or meow, only to return moments later to rest his eyes.
As more of a personal venture than a public one, Susan also grows and occasionally sells potted plants of all rarities and varieties. A small sun room on the back of her shop is dedicated solely to plants - all cat safe of course.

Susan has always been the go-getter type. She graduated with honors, and though it did not come without trials, opened her first shop only a year out of college. After finding it difficult to maintain a small business in a large city like Brisbane, she eventually moved to a smaller town, Lorne. After purchasing a run down old house, Susan spent the next 4 years working a day job, while saving and working to remodel the house which eventually turned into the shop she runs today.

Now many years later, Susan finds herself feeling an overwhelming amount of gratitude every single day. She worked so hard to accomplish this life. Her dream job of owning a business, partnering with other like minded people to create a thriving environment of love and passion. Nothing in the world is better than spending your days in exactly the way you dreamed it would be when you were young.

Name: Whitley
Gender: DFAB
Prompt:

"Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon. Welcome on board Flight 444 from Pine Ridge to Lyndil. This is Captain Mallard speaking, and I am honored to pilot this aircraft for you today. Our flight time today will be 10 hours and twenty minutes, and our estimated time of arrival in Odeila is 8AM local time. The weather is looking clear and sunny, and the forecast says it will be a bit cloudy in Odeila when we arrive. We remind you that if you need any special attention, all our crew will be at ready to assist you.
We’ll be flying over some interesting locations, such as the Cryshale Ruins of the Isosia Wilds, and the famous Mount Infamy of Lyndil will be visible as well on our flight path. You will be able to follow our route on one of the entertaining system channels.
Latest update on weather at our destination will be given as we approach Odeila. Now for the rundown on our emergency exits and safety protocol with the help of our lovely flight attendants."

She can remember the arm movements and directions to point like the back of her hand, years of flying to and fro for work perfect familiarizing herself with the routine of the flight attendants as they direct the passengers' attention to the many exits of the plane, and to the safety equipment at thier seats. She's always felt envious of the attendants, watching as they milled about from the back to the front of the plane, prim and well-dressed as they push the catering cart through and offer their guests refreshments and snacks. How she dreams to be in their shoes, traveling to places she couldn't imagine traveling to, seeing landmarks and people and sights she can only fathom seeing in her dreams.

To Whitley, there has always been something so romantic about the life of a flight attendant, traveling to several destinations, connecting with the passengers they serve and then being able to settle down for the night in their private cabins during those long travels, comforters up to their chins, falling alseep to the night sky and waking up to dawn's light through the fluffy clouds outside their cabin windows. Their life seems more interesting than hers, for sure- she'd rather have to deal with balancing herself through turbulance then tapping her pen against the wood of a table to keep herself awake and at attention during business meetings.

Maybe I should try and apply, she thinks to herself, the opened tab on her task bar staring back at her; tempting her to click and take her back to her half-finished application for the hospitality classes Anabelle Airlines offers. She has half a mind to click it before a soft 'excuse me' to her left pulls her out of her thoughts, her eyes meeting the soft blues of the flight attendant offering her a bottled water.

Maybe when I get to the hotel, she finalizes, her heart on cloud nine.

Name: Lenore
Gender: DFAB
Prompt:

Right now, Lenore is a mere tailor. She enjoys making clothing whether it be her design or a design someone has brought to her so that she may bring their vision to life. However as much as she likes designing clothing, Lenore's dream profession isn't too far off what she already does and requires much of the same skills that she already has as a tailor.

That being said, Lenore's dream job is to be a costume designer. While of course, Lenore loves her job as a tailor because she loves being able to create clothing people love from scratch, there is something about costume making that intrigues her to no end. For her, it may be the fact that it doesn't matter why a person needs a costume, it could be for literally anything whether that be a Halloween costume, a costume for a theater play, a costume for a film, or even just because one wants to dress-up.

Imagining all the intricacies of costume designing is also something that intrigues Lenore and in a way, costume designing would challenge her more on how to do more complicated clothing designs and allow her to expand her knowledge in how articles of clothing should fit together with one another, especially in the form of a costume. After all, everything in a costume needs to fit with one another in order to fully allow the costume to pull itself together.

It doesn't matter to Lenore if her days and nights become longer, with her passion as a tailor, she knows she'd be able to be just as passionate as a costume designer as she is as a tailor. Her ultimate dream is to build up her business and her name as both so one day she may be able to achieve her dream of becoming a great costume designer that everyone goes to for their unique ideas.

Name: Vira
Gender: DFAB
Prompt:

Vira dreams of one day being a Time Operative. Yes , that's correct - she believes with all her heart there's a Collective behind the flow of Time and she wants a roll.

She doesn't desire to be the Director by any means but rather someone tasked to sort thru anomalies of each timeline and how to solve these time-breaking scenarios.
She'd have a desk amongst many others , and would always start off her day with an orange Earl Grey milk tea. Her desk would be like a second home to her as she'd happily spend most of her time skimming thru any unordinary readings to correct.

Essentially Vira would love to have an ordinary office job with the extra steps of saving timelines from collapsing due to anomalies. While a tasking job , it'd be very rewarding for her ; every day would offer something new to explore and test her skills on problem solving.

Prompt:

Jane's always longed for the sky - to race the night, taste clouds, and feel the cold of the heavens on her nose. Being a dragon rider of Bjerstörn's kingdom has always been a dream of hers. An impossible one, it seems.

She's been stuck in the gardens since she arrived here, beyond the castle walls, with her green thumb for herbs and plants. Sometimes she'll see a glimpse of a dragon high in the clouds.

She sighs, plucking mint leaves for tea for the royal guards. She could be practicing swordplay or archery, yet she's here amongst the dirt and bugs. One day, that would be her up there.

Wait and see.

    Name: charm
    Gender: DFAB
    Prompt:

all throughout university, when charm was asked about her dream job or postgrad plans, she'd respond with a snarky 'i don't dream of labor.' which is true. aside from her lofty proclamations of 'astronaut' or 'doctor' or 'marine biologist' when she was little, these careers quickly lost their luster when she realized the work that went into achieving them- and for a while, she wondered if there realize was a dream job out there for her.

jump to the present, charm was currently on track for med-school, a path her family reassured would be worth it, despite the grueling schedule and workload. she had never been more miserable. dejected by the lack of direction and enthusiasm despite the promising diploma only a few weeks away, charm couldn't help but feel like something was off. she found herself spending a lot of time at the local dive bar her senior year. sometimes she'd get a drink, sometimes she'd chat with regulars. other days she'd place herself by the dart board and wait for her next opponent. it was nice to have a place to escape to. sure, it constantly left her smelling like cigarettes and the floor was perpetually sticky, but everyone who hung out there was generally friendly and open to listening to her woes, even if the company was a bit rough around the edges.

graduation came and went, and she found herself back at the bar. she'd intentionally (and secretly) missed the deadline to enroll in her postgrad program, and was feeling the guilt. having heard enough of her complaints, the barkeep slid a bottle and glass towards her.

"you want me to drink all of this?" her jaw dropped to the floor, eyes wide. the bottle was low, but not that low.

"no, charm, i want you to pour me a drink. you've seen me working day in and out for weeks, i'd hope you and that big brain of yours picked up on some of this"

she rolled her eyes, sitting up a bit straighter. "i've never said no to a challenge before."

    --

several surprisingly accurate pours later, she found herself behind the bar... training?
she'd never considered being a bartender before, didn't even think it a possibility. you didn't need a special degree for that, right? but here she was, memorizing drinks and orders that weren't her own, and having a damn good time with the small talk.

now, if you need to find charm, your best bet would be to check the local campus bar. she's found herself in the position of unofficial therapist (bartender) for all of the undergrads who are in the same shoes she used to be. although it's not the most glamorous position, it's perfect for her.

Re: Buttermilk #1025 - Trick or Treat!

Postby case » Sat Nov 09, 2024 4:42 pm

Username: case
Name: pip
Gender: DFAB
Prompt: While sitting in her sociology class at college, Pip often finds herself daydreaming about her future. The job that she longs for requires a lot of hard work, not only academically, but also mentally and emotionally. Although she is not too thrilled about the idea of possibly having to intern for six hundred hours, she knows that the stress is worth it. She would take every college course five more times if it meant that she eventually became a child life specialist.

For as long as she could remember, Pip felt drawn to the healthcare field. When her parents realized that Pip was always playing doctor, they immediately encouraged this interest. As Pip grew older and a little bit wiser, she realized that she exclusively wanted to work with children. When asked why, Pip’s answer often included how satisfying it felt to be able to help a child in need. She would not just be changing the child’s current life. She would be setting the stage for that child’s future. Pip also enjoyed the idea that she would be helping an entire family, not just a sole individual. She was a natural born helper, healer, and shoulder to cry on.

As a child life specialist, Pip would be expected to work with children in a hospital setting in order to prepare them for any upcoming medical procedures. Pip would also be entrusted to ensure that the child coped well during their hospital stay. While at a hospital, many children are not privy to what exactly is going on. Pip believes that children should be kept innocent to their medical complexities for as long as possible, but she also passionately stood behind the fact that everybody, no matter how old, is scared of the unknown. As a child life specialist, Pip would educate the child using words that they understand. Let’s be honest, does anybody really understand the big words that doctors use anyway?

Pip believes that this line of work is extremely rewarding. She would be able to work with the children throughout all phases of their hospital stay — before, during, and after their procedure. She finds herself enjoying the idea of lessening the stress of a child. Stress and anxiety are feelings that only adults should have. Pip’s main belief is that when a child understands what is happening to them, there are able to cope better with less psychological trauma. Pip wants to be a voice for the voiceless, and vows to be a strong and fierce advocate.

But, before she can do all of this, Pip first has to make it through these college classes. However, she cannot wait for the day when she makes a child smile and giggle when she tugs on her characteristic ears.
