Cat Name: Odessa
Gender: Female
Rank: Guard
Clan: Fallen Rose KingdomAge: 4 years
Prompt: I will not. Those were the words in which she uttered that could've ended everything. A high ranking guard had told her she was to remove a youngling from their mother, the mother who had done nothing wrong. By the old guards words, the mother had disobeyed order and could not keep her child. Although, the guard would not reveal what she had 'disobeyed'.
The guard had shouted at her, berated her for her lack of moral code. Yet, Odessa stayed firm.
"I will not," she had hissed at the older and stronger guard. Yet, she was younger and nimble. Odessa would not wrongly punish a mother and youngling simply because this male could not figure himself out.
That was when it had all flashed dark. The scent of blood swathed in the air, but she stuck firm, retaliating again the older guard. She would not stand for this. Adrenaline fueled her determination,
punish him a voice sang in her head.
"You thoughtless female!" The guard had snapped, and her vision flooded red. Odessa's tail snapped side to side as she stalked over to the older male. He did not get to do this simply because he held a position of power. Her hiss echoed from the castle walls, a loud, reverberating noise, she would not stand for this.
She would rather die fighting than live submissive.Odessa wanted to hurl insults at him, how he could be so selfish, so
apathetic. Somehow, she stayed silent. And that seemed to scare him even more. She was nearly blinded by anger, but managed to keep her head. One cold, firm though echoed in her head,
do not allow him to get away with this.He seemed to back away at the sight of her unadulterated hate. Odessa did not soften as he backed down, though. The guard may have held a position of power over her, but that did not make him better than her. This mother would not lose her child simply because he is a power hungry fool.
Adrenaline was the only thing blinding her from the pain that would hit. She was ignorant to what he had done to cause the smell of blood. At this point, she did not care. All of her fur was bristling and her eyes could burn a hole into cloth. Odessa would make this older guard regret his words.
At no point did she hurl words at him, she simply remained bone cold silent. His ears were pinned back, but his tail was tucked between his legs. Odessa knew how scared he was.
"If you touch that mother and her child, you won't ever touch something again," Odessa hissed before stalking off, a trail of crimson following.
Only after did she discover that the older guard had done. Her ear was in tatters. Odessa had been one of the best cats at detecting sounds, now her ear was gone. In the seclusion of her room she collapsed and sobbed, the adrenaline keeping her standing was gone. Now she felt pain and worry for if she had gone too far.
Had the adrenaline not pushed her, she didn't want to know what would have happened. An ear was gone, but what if something worse had happened? Nobody would know.
The next day, that guard was gone. Odessa never figured out what happened to him. All that mattered, was that she knew the mother and youngling were safe.
She would stand against the world if it meant what was right. Only looking back, does the echo in her mind remind her of how much she could have lost for such a dispute. In the days she tries to hear from her missing ear, does she remember, in the nightmares in which more was lost does she tell herself how lucky she was.
How lucky she was..
