Prompt:Chronicle hasn't tried many things in his life. He's always been sheltered by his mother through his kithood and even through his adolescence. Once he set out on his own many moons later, his sense of adventure burned within him, and he had started to explore and do many different things.
One day, he was convinced by a younger member,
Puck, to try swimming for the first time in the river near the colony's camp during green-leaf. Chronicle was hesitant at first, but had seen the younger cat swim there before and had eventually agreed. It was a warm day, the sun shining bright above the two cats as they reached the river. Chronicle peered at the calm, clear water. He had never swum in any type of standing water before, so he wasn't really aware of what to expect when he just jumped right in, head first.
Coldness hit him all at once, washing over his entire body. Surfacing with a shocked gasp, Chronicle felt his muscles tensing.
"I-it's s-so…so cold!" Chronicle gasped with chattering teeth.
"You're not supposed to just dive in like that! You gotta warm up to it!" Puck shouted with eyes wider than a full moon.
Chronicle tried to paddle back to where Puck was standing on the bank.
"F-forget it! I'm go-goin' b-back!"
"Wait! Get used to the water first, it won't feel so cold." Puck protested. "Try swimming to the other side and back, and if you still don't like swimming, we can leave. Just try to relax!"
The dark tabby tom gave it one last chance, pushing himself away from the direction of Puck and to the other side of the river. He still felt cold and was ready to give Puck an earful once he was to the other side and back. Once he got his breathing under control, however, it started to feel enjoyable.
It still felt slightly cold, but he felt himself getting used to the temperature and his could relax. It felt like he was floating. Gliding through the water with great ease now, Chronicle reached the other side of the bank, where Puck joined him, a wide grin across his muzzle.
"See, it's not so bad!"
Before Chronicle could reply, Puck dipped his paws in the river and splashed water towards Chronicle, catching him by surprise.
"Ooh, You asked for it, punk!" Chronicle said with a grin, chasing after Puck.
The two splashed and played in the water until they were both exhausted. Chronicle had enjoyed his first time swimming, and he'd go again but without diving head first next time...or maybe he would.
