Mesa had been born alone, and she had been born sick.
The Barrens are unforgiving, and her circumstances were no exception.

Her first memories were of sand scorching her paws, and of loneliness.
Surely she’d had a mother, but she wasn’t present in these memories.
A sickly, tiny thing, Mesa had wandered,
and wandered,
and wandered.

It was during these times that the kit was wholly convinced;
she was alone in this world.
The land she’d found herself in was utterly devoid of life,
and it was only a matter of time before she became a part of it.

At least, that’s what she’d believed.

One day, one fateful day, Mesa blinked the sleep from her weary eyes,
doing all she could to ignore the gnawing hunger.
And suddenly, she wasn’t alone.

A magnificent creature stood in front of her;
tall and stone-still, pale-pelted and radiant under the great, blistering sun.
Oh, the figure had been nothing short of glorious.

First, Mesa had believed that perhaps she was a God.
A brilliant being appearing before her to guide her to the afterlife.

Though she soon learned that the cat before her was mortal,
she didn’t view her salvation as any less of a miracle.

“Thank the heavens, Pebbleskip sent you to us; kept you safe.”
Pebbleskip; the divine Goddess of luck, prosperity, and new beginnings.
Mesa would remember this moment,
the first time she heard the name of her dearly beloved saviour aloud.

As Mesa grew, so did her admiration for Pebbleskip.
Oh, how she worshipped her.
For how could she not?
What kind of soul would she be,
to not revere the being who had so clearly guided her home?

She would never know the desolation or loneliness of her first moons again.
As long as Mesa followed her beloved Pebbleskip, she would be whole.

they don't believe his words of truth.

that's fine with him. they'll regret not listening later.
he is the only one who knows the truth behind the divine,
and he is not hesitant to expose them at all.

Dapplepaw sighed heavily as Riverpool flicked his tail impatiently his eyes fixed on her. She looked everywhere but at the silver/blue cat in front of her. She hated when he asked these silly questions, and it almost made her wish she would have decided to be a warrior instead. After a few moments, she gave another more exasperated sigh.

"I don't know, I haven't experienced anything Spiritual really," she said and riverpool purred in amusement while she fumed silently at him for it. Riverpool stood and stretched before looking up at the sky, Though it was still in the late afternoon, a heavy almost full moon hung over them. Dapplepaw suddenly remembered nervously that they would be leaving tomorrow to go to the Moonpool. She wondered if she would feel spiritual then?


Dapplepaw panted softly as she crouched on the ledge overlooking the valley. It had been a hard climb for her, being only half the size of her mentor. But Riverpool had taken it slow and encouraged her the entire way. Now they sat waiting for the others. Another small brown cat sat on Riverpool's other side, They goormed eachother softly in the cool air while waiting and Dapplepaw wondered how long they had known eachother. Yawning she shook her head and tried to stay awake.

Swirling mists enveloped Dapplepaw as she quietly walked down to the glittering pool. Higher up in the mountains that she was used to, she shivered slightly but her eyes remained fixed on the two twin-shaped pools. Each a crescent with their backs touching surrounded by soft hanging mosses and a few late fireflies she was in complete awe. The air around her felt like it was alive with energy and she almost thought she could see faint outlines of other cats lounging around the pool. She hadn't realized she had stopped moving until she felt a soft nudge from Riverpool behind her, looking back she saw all five cats looking at her with excitement and warmth. Taking a deep breath she continued down the small path until she reached the small clearing in the left crescent. The other medicine cats sat behind her in a crescent, completing the full moon with the pond. She stood there nervously before she heard murmurs of excitement behind her, across the pools. Turning around she saw several cats milling around and finding seats in the small clearing across from her, except they were covered in stardust, and their pelts shone with what looked like an inner light.

After a moment of everyone getting settled, Dapplepaw jumped slightly as Riverpool gently touched her with his tail. "Are you ready?" He asked softly his eyes gleamed brightly in the soft light. She nodded and riverpool moved to sit near the widest spot of the pool.

"Tonight as we gather for the full moon, I bring my new apprentice, Dapplepaw" He paused. her name was murmured on the other side by several cats, most sounded approving, and some sounded unsure. Riverpool turned to face her and her heart skipped a beat, The star clan cats started walking across the water and up to her. She touched noses with a few of them and felt several others brush up against her. Everything kind of blurred together and before she knew what was happening she was lost in her dreams.

The sun dipping into the small valley with the ponds woke Dapplepaw and she blinked confused. Then the memories of last night rushed back to her and she quickly jumped to her feet. She heard a soft chuckle from Riverpool and turned to see him with the larger tabby cat and his apprentice. She flattened her ears in embarrassment when she realized she didn't remember either of their names, but riverpool nodded to them quietly as they left and then came and touched noses with her before sitting, his tail curling around his paws.

"So, Do you feel spiritual now?" he asked his tone had a hint of mischief to it and she sighed exasperatedly at him before looking back at the pool "Yes, I can say i do for certain"
