Prompt: Horn often feels confident, frequently overconfident even, but rarely has he felt
brave. The problem with bravery is that it requires fear. As one of the 13 most powerful beings he knows, and being the 2nd most powerful of the set, he rarely has occasion to feel fear.
However, fear from lack of power is not the only kind of fear.
Horn found that despite his confidence in most areas of life, he held little confidence to do with emotions. Joy and anger weren't too hard to deal with in many cases because they're simpler emotions, but sorrow and love are terrifying to Horn.
It was many years after the world had taken shape and Horn found himself taking on a mortal form to have a different perspective than his home in the skies. While in that form, he visited many locations. The last of those was a small village. He arrived late at night and pretended to be a traveler. He made his way to an Inn and found himself face to face with the most beautiful mortal he'd ever seen. When she asked him how long he'd be staying, he found that he'd lost all ability to think.
Scrambling for anything, he blurted out, "Just a few days, I think!" He flushed when she giggled at his near-yelling at the end.
"You sure are strange." She told Horn when giving him the key to his room.
He stayed for many days there, unable to leave without telling her how she fascinated him, but terrified to do so. He wandered aimlessly about during the day, expect for when he was gathering gifts to leave the innkeeper secretly. Most of them, he lost the nerve to give and stored in his room that was getting fuller by the day.
Finally, he knew he'd been in mortal form long enough. His body was beginning to wear down from the stress of his immense powers and it wouldn't be long before he'd be forced to leave whether he wanted to or not.
Determined to complete the task he'd given himself, he gathered up his courage and picked a bouquet of wildflowers. Then, he waiting behind the back of the Inn at around the time she would usually step out for a break. When she stepped out, he became flustered and almost decided to abandon it, but he held on. He passed the bouquet to her and told her a poem he had rehearsed for this very purpose.
The innkeeper was delighted by his infatuation, although she had not known him long and knew he would eventually leave, and invited him on an outing later that day, so they could have some time together to remember once he left.
While there were other times that Horn was brave, he considers this one his favorite.
