Prompt: The Mourning Dove has such a nice song yet it sounds so sad. An elegant bird with the calls similar to ones of a cry. Glide hasn’t seen one herself which makes them even more Illusive. She’s just heard their songs, a beautiful weep. Perhaps one day she could see one for herself and see what the creature looks like but for now, she can enjoy their company in the early hours of day through their chirps.

Prompt: Though birdsong is rare is the murky woodlands of Hawkins, Buckley has developed an fondness for the occasional melodic call of the cardinal. The other members of her clowder find the drawn out sound to be nerve-wracking (as it can often precede danger approaching) but even running for her life, Buckley still managed to find a sense of joy in the sound.

Their favorite bird is the dark-eyed junco [x]. It's not like the other, more flashy birds of the forest, with brilliant colors or iridescent black feathers, instead they have simple brown and tan plumage, fluffy white down, with charcoal black heads. It's not their rather plain appearance that draws them in, rather their sweet, flighty disposition. This cats favorite walk is covered in kousa dogwood trees, they're shrub like, short with slender reaching branches and four petalled flowers. The flowers' centers are green/brown and pointy, turning into bulbous, spikey red fruit, but most importantly their web-like twigs are the beloved perching spot of these adorable birds.

When they step up to the trail the trees are bursting with life, tiny scattering birds hop about the branches, fluttering wings and feathers drifting on the breeze. What they love most is the sing-song chitters and cheeps of the birds as they skitter higher into the trees' foliage, seeking shelter as though their calls don't alert any and all lurking predators. [x]

Plus, just look at how adorable this baby bird is puffed up and sleepy, ready to settle in for a nap!

Prompt: Fig loves the melodic chirps and whistles of the goldfinches as they forage for seeds in the fields. They are the last of the spring birds to arrive to the clowder's summer valley, but are usually the sign that winter is surely gone. Their bright yellow plumage is striking against the blue sky and green grass. The other cats always wonder why Fig never catches one, but she will decorate her nest with the dropped feathers at the end of the molting season.

While travelling the world, Thistle has seen many wonderful birds with the most beautiful feathers and melodic songs, however the one that stuck out to them the most was the lammergeir, also know as the bearded vulture. While scavengers usually have a bad reputation, these strange birds they really do hold a special place in their heart.

Their diet mostly consists of only bone marrow, and they have a tendency to swallow a bone in whole (they once saw a vulture swallow a lamb's femur! If that isn't cool as heck, then what is!?). When a bone is too big, they drop it from great heights to break it.

Unlike most vultures, who are bald, these birds have pretty orange or cream feathers covering their head, which helps them stay warm in high altitudes.

Thistle definitely wouldn't dare going anywhere near one of these birds, even if they're scavengers, they might find a cat an easy meal! But they're still pretty cool to admire from afar.

Prompt: Though she's never seen one, Fern has always loved the brilliant rainbow lorikeets of Australia. Once reading about them in an old book, she fell in love with them for their bright colours, shrill calls and overall playfulness. Her dream is to see one in real life someday, but unless she learns how to swim for 8000 miles straight, that probably won't be happening.
