Goldpoppy is one of the few cats who remember living in the stone clearing before Grove Clan was founded. He remembers the storm and the trees that crushed the old camp and so many of its dens.

It is one reason he was so interested in building stronger dens. He tried many different ways to reinforce the dens before one day dreaming about getting mud all over his fur and it hardening.

He woke up in cold sweat and bolted to the creak. He gathered as much mud on a branch as he could and dragged it back to camp. Then began packing it onto the woven branches.

Goldpoppy was so proud to have invented a new stronger den to protect his clanmates.

Someday she's gonna do it, she's gonna make the engine that can break the speed of light. "but that's not possible" says literally everyone "it's science fiction" but years and years ago isn't that what everyone said about interplanetary travel? And look where we are now, living amongst the stars. Sci-fi, warp speed, ftl, call it what you will, she just thinks of it as fast, convenient, brilliant. You could get anywhere in the solar system in the blink of an eye. Now this is just a side dream alongside her main job, but someday, she'll go down in history... probably as the girl who died in an explosion trying to make a light speed engine, but don't tell her that, she'll just laugh it off.

Some show their signs of neglect, rusting together and creaking and groaning; others survive with miraculously little damage. In the evenings, when things are quiet and the cats all return for shelter, Terry can be found darting amongst the machines, scavenging them for spare parts.

What she wants to build with them is beyond the comprehension of most other cats in the Factory, who view the machines as strange things that are best left alone, or at most used as shells and structures for their nesting places, perches on which to sit. Terry says that she understands them though, though how exactly a cat has knowledge of mechanics and engineering is... puzzling. Ferrous has asked if she plans to make something useful, something like an alarm or a camera to keep an eye out for intruders. She looked him in the eye, blinked, and said "no."

She would later say "not yet," or "do it on your own, the structure's already there. You don't need me for that."

Terry's own project is located in her own section of the building; most people leave it alone, partially because they're unsure of the parts, part because Terry is very protective of it, and part because even if she doesn't feel like chasing you out of her "workshop", it means that she will talk your ear off about the project, and Terry we love you but none of us can follow what you're talking about. It's a prototype, she says. A little robot thing. She wants to build a full version some day, that moves and walks and sings and talks - but right now, she's content with this little thing. She's programmed it to play music. Ferrous loves it.
