Prompt:“I have a story that’ll knock your socks off!” He chuckled looking down at his enthusiastic audience, consisting of a whole two children.
“But uncle Riko! We’re not wearing socks!”
He only smiled “I’m going to tell you about terra, I used to live there with my wife you know.”
“Woah! But wasn’t terra destroyed like 100 turns ago?! How old are you!?” said the boy, the girl elbowed him and said something that Riko’s old ears couldn’t quite pick up.
He was rather flustered. “Uh, no, it wasn’t even 4 decades ago.” Did he really look even older than the average felid lifespan? The girl looked rather smug when he said that.
“Um, anyways. The planet was lush and green and blue, stepping outside and you could see birds of all colors and sizes, massive creatures like deer, trees reaching up to the heavens and-“ He was interrupted.
“Oh please, I’ve been to recreations of nature, tell us something fun!”
His heart felt like it was going to break into little pieces, why didn’t the boy understand, it wasn’t the same. But then again, how could he know? Not even his mother had been to terra. “Ah, if only I could take you to visit it…”
“I’ve seen it, a dead hunk of rock, what’s the big deal?”
Well it’s where all known life in the universe started, but sure, what’s the big deal? But he didn’t want to argue, all he wanted was to make the kids happy.
“Nevermind, do you want to hear where I got these scars?”
“yes yes!” they said in unison- he still knew a thing or two about kids after all.
“This was ah, over thirty turns ago now, my how time flies. I’m a scientist you know, well I was working on a project, super big, top secret stuff- now don’t tell anyone about what you hear in this room today.”
“Ooooo! We promise!” normally that might have been a gimmick to keep their interest, but it really was true, not that anyone would believe the kids if they said anything.
“I was assisting in creating new life from the ashes of our planet, genetically producing a new species that could survive-“ He was loosing their interest again. “I helped make a monster! size of a felid, strong as a truck, razor sharp claws. And we thought we could contain him. But one night, I was working late, and he escaped! He picked me up with one paw-“ he indicated the long marks on his back. “And tossed me across the room, like I was light as a feather! And to this day… they never caught him.” He wished he had a flashlight to hold under his chin for effect. “And the worst part? He looks just like any ordinary person, he could be anyone and you’d never know it!” He made a sudden move towards them and they shrieked before rolling over laughing.
