Cat Name: Beetle
Gender: male
Rank: carver
Clan: the summit
Age: 40 moons
Prompt:

He wasn't supposed to be here

In many senses, Beetle was not meant to walk this earth. He had been born feeble and weak, an only kit. Small and mewling and pathetic, with barely any fur to his body. While the homestead was protected from most of the elements above, he had been born in a particularly early winter, with frost seeping into the ground and chilling everyone to the bone. His own mother thought he would die - but die he did not.

He whirled around, lips drawn back in a snarl

Nobody could argue that he wasn't a fighter. He grew strong and large, always hungry for more - more food, more time at his mother's warm belly, more kits around him to keep him company. At times it was lonely, in the homestead, just him and mother. But that was when he discovered tunneling. He dug his claws into the thick, cold earth, and felt it scrape underneath them. The dark, damp soil built up under his claws, but he relished in the feeling. Finally, something he was good at! Something useful. His hairless paws, easily burnt in the sun aboveground, were perfect for the tunnels. And so a timber he became, dedicated to becoming a carver.

In the dark, you can't even see your own paw in front of your face

Beetle was the perfect timber - astute, always willing to learn and perfect the craft of tunneling and maintaining the underground. The mine shafts, the old beams, the precious metals glinting form the walls of the tunnels and caves - it all left him in awe. He worked on expanding them, his eyes growing used to the dark, his fur becoming even more patchy. He was a quick learner, and was often left to his own devices at the end of the day's work. His mentor knew which system he was in, of course, and Beetle enjoyed the quiet - down underneath the earth, there wasn't much sound. Sometimes the earth would creak and groan, roots and rocks would settle, the wind aboveground would make the timbers supporting the tunnels shift. There was a slight whistling today, as a winter storm blew in - Beetle could feel it in the cold dampness of the air, in the slight chill of the soil. Everything was still and calm - except for the pattering of paws that he felt coming from above. He paused - no one else was in these tunnels today. And then he readied himself - underground prey!

But alas, the rat that came squealing from the tunnels was not meant to be caught. The pitiful thing reeked of fear, which peaked Beetle's interest - what was this rat so afraid of, that it would come running out of the dark and directly into his paws? It seemed to cower behind his front paws, shivering against his bare skin. He let it scramble up his leg and perch on his back, shoulders tightening. He had to go investigate.

But one cannot mistake the feeling of being watched

Beetle padded slowly into the dark, back towards where the rat had come from - it clung heavily to his shoulders now, but it didn't protest him going down further. This tunnel slanted down - he knew exactly where it went. Like a map in his head, he ran through what this tunnel connected to, and realized it split into a dead end and a part that the advanced team was working on alone. It was an old tunnel - maybe there was some old mining equipment down here that the wind had whistled through and spooked the rat? He shook his head, padding forward. Whatever it was, he was curious now. He unsheathed his claws and felt the cold earth beneath his paws, claws clicking on the packed soil. Sniffing ahead, there was no scent but rat fear and dank earth. He narrowed his eyes, stopping. It almost felt like there was another cat following him down into the tunnel. But there were no pawsteps, no scuffing of dirt, no breath. Not even the swish of a tail against the wall. He flicked his little stumpy tail, cursing it. If only he had been born with the characteristic long tail of tunnelers before him - he could have swept it out, feeling for differences in the air and the earth.

What is one supposed to do but run?

He felt the fur prick on his back, cold air whistling through the tunnel - and he could have sworn there was a soft whisper in the wind. He growled in his throat, digging his claws into the stiff earth. He knew he was alone - he had to be, everyone else was taking a break, including the advanced team in the other side of the tunnel. But he felt the presence of some other cat so viscerally that he could not be alone. The rat on his back squealed and dug its claws in, and that was when Beetle saw the eyes in the dark, shining back menacingly at him. His own eyes widening, he threw himself back in the direction of the main tunnel, towards the other cats and towards safety. Panting and shaking, he nearly barreled into his mentor. Eyes still panicked, body still quivering, that was when Beetle learned of the ghosts in the tunnels.

Cat Name: Ember
Gender: Nonbinary (he/they/it)
Rank: Loner
Clan: The Veil
Age: 82 moons
Prompt:
For the past several months, Ember had felt like someone was watching it from a corner it couldn’t see, like they had a window into its life.
It made them unsettled - each time they tried to turn to see what was looking at it from the corner, it appeared to be immediately behind them. At first, they’d thought it had been Marble, the rat they’d come to call their companion, but even then it didn’t seem to go away, even after they’d found the rodent. It was starting to get freaked out.

“Hey, you’re not being watched, are you?” It’d asked to Razzmatazz one day. Taz seemed to give it a look, quirking a brow, and his tail stuck its tongue out at it seemingly disinterestedly. Ember seemed dejected, wanting SOMEONE to take their concerns seriously.
It had no luck with L Corp either - a lot of the cats there were weirder than it’d’ve liked to deal with, and Garion & Carmen didn’t exactly seem interested in helping it. Kali was nowhere to be found, Benjamin told it to leave, and the only one who seemed like she’d want to help was Elijah - although she shortly gave up, having no luck in trying to discern what it was being watched by. Ember appreciated the thought nonetheless.

One night, the feeling of eyes burning into the back of their head seemed to intensify, and it decided it had had enough. “Come out! Stop watching me!”
“But what if I don’t want to?”
The voice that it received made its heart sink, although they tried to remain firm in how they were standing. “I don’t care! Who are you? Leave me alone!”
“I don’t think I will.” The voice replied, in a seemingly amused chirp. “Who are you to stop me, anyways?”
For a moment, Ember thought it could hear the ringing of a bell, and they nearly toppled over on their feet. It felt like ages before anyone else spoke.
“Anyways, I quite like keeping an eye on this little island of yours, and you’re included in that. Your pleadings and begging won’t change my mind on that.”
“Why not?”
“What’s a normal, mortal cat like you to god himself?” An amused laugh came from the voice. “And I quite like being god right now. I’m not going to jeopardize that just because some poor old baby doesn’t like being observed.”
Ember caught the briefest flash of a large white & gold tabby for a moment before it vanished, and they shrunk down. “B-But..”
“Aw, where’d that zest go?” The figure became visible once more, and Ember was dwarfed as he opened his wings in front of it. “I knew you were a coward, but this is new, even for you.”
Ember couldn’t respond, just simply resorting to pressing themselves down onto the ground, their entire body now wracked with fear.
“It seems I’ve got my point across.” The god leaned down until his face was inches from its own. “So, to drive it even more home - don’t ever think you can tell me what to do again. Understood?”
Ember just gave a whine as they nodded, scrambling backwards to get away from Eyeris. Eyeris seemed amused by this, standing himself back upright and folding his wings back down.
“Good.”
And with that, Ember was alone.

( ⚜ warrior ][ orange sky of sunset )

Username: lowkeyworm
Cat Name: sunset / orange sky of sunset
Gender: cismale - he/him
Rank: warrior
Clan: tribe of unknown spirits
Age: 28 moons
Prompt:
Sunset shifted his paws nervously as he sat by the creek, sniffing the air for prey. He couldn't emerge himself fully into his duty, though. He was stiff. For the past few hours, he'd felt something on him - something warm and cold and hot and burning and itchy. Someone's eyes on him. And he didn't like it. But he couldn't smell anyone!

There was a crack.

He turned his head toward the forest, eyes wide. Something moved. The bushes wiggled. And slowly, small brown creatures emerged. Mice? Sunset jumped to his feet and stared in bewilderment as hundreds of mice crawled out from their hiding spots, their little whiskers twitching.

"Gah!" he yowled as the mice began charging toward him. There were so many of them running in unison that their feed thundered, and Sunset felt like he was being chased by a herd of badgers. "Help!" he screamed, running alongside the creek and frantically kicking mice off his heavy feet.

The hunter becomes the hunted.

Cat Name: Keeneye

Clan: https://toyhou.se/griffhighwind/charact ... er:2507939
Age: 23 Moons
Prompt: He could not stand it anymore! Something was lurking, following him, watching him! What was it? Why would it not go away? In an effort to find out, he followed his normal scouting pattern... only to abruptly stop and turn around. There in the clearing was a tiny mouse, staring up at him with fear. "What on... why would you be following me?" He asked it, genuinely curious. The mouse paused a moment, clearing its throat, before replying with a shaky voice.

"You... you... I need help! This hawk has been after my babies and I know I cannot take it down but maybe you, a mighty cat, could?"

"You're pretty brave, asking me like this..."

"My babies... I just want them to have a chance to live!"

"Alright, I'll help. Haven't ate a good bird in some time anyways..." And so with his help, the bird was taken down and her babies were safe. A few months later however, he felt that watching again. "Oh? What now? A dog?"

"No no... my babies got to live and are now on their own! But I want to return the favor... and show you things only a mouse can see. Help you be a better scout!"

"...That so huh? Well, I'll entertain the notion. Let's be off then my new friend..."

Mousewhisker woke up in very unexplainable pain.

"Ow!" Mousewhisker yowled, looking back at his tail.

A tiny creature was biting him, and... Mousewhisker thought it was cute.

He place the creature on his nose to see it properly.

"Hey, little guy! I'll call you Wetsnout!" Mousewhisker chuckled, and Wetsnout licked his nose.

♡Prompt: Patchfur clawed her way through the bushes. She sniffed the air, a warm presence was near. She lifted her ears, and crouched. Patchfur crawled swiftly, slipping through the leaves in the way. She could smell it close now, it was... it was a cat! The cat smelled like mice and had the faint scent of ThunderClan. It was a she-cat. Patchfur sniffed around, curious now. She still crouched in case of danger, but her head tilted slightly. The she-cat appeared out of the bushes. She sniffed the air, her mouth open to taste the smell. She must have been sniffed for Patchfur! But why? The cat was a obsidian color, with white on her underbelly, paws, and a star on her forehead. She must be trustworthy, because she is a leader. She had blue beads around her neck, with two blue feathers attached. This must be a relic of the Twolegs. I wonder if she found it herself, Patchfur wondered. The black leader approached her. "Ah, there you are. I have a question for you!" she smiled happily. "Would you like to join MistClan?" Patchfur sat down and thought. She had just met this cat. "Hmmm..." she mewed quietly to herself. "I think.... I'm good." She walked off.

Cat Name: horizon's never setting sun / neversetting
      Gender: tom
      Rank: advisor
      Clan: the stagnant
      Age: 40 moons
      Prompt:

Neversetting had never been a fan of the tunnels, especially since he had awoken. They were too dark and foreboding for his liking. The sun did not reach down here, leaving him with eyes adjusted to the darkness. He had to be flexible, despite his desire for the sun's warmth. The sky above was too dangerous for the likes of him.. or any cat for that matter.

Neversetting wound further and further through the tunnels, his eyes were well adjusted to the dark, but still struggled to make out shapes in the distance. As he entered a large cavern. Or what he presumed to be a large cavern, he couldn't make out the walls or the roof any longer. He stumbled over something stone in his path that he had failed to see, and fell down a short drop, pulling loose dirt and stone down with him. With a grumble he shook himself, clearing his fur of dirt and his head of ringing. He looked around with his limited eyesight, only to freeze at the sight before him. Before him stood the figure of a cat, face contorted in an expression of terror. However, the figure was made entirely of stone. Facial details, ear, and even fur clumps. It was like a cat had been wrapped in it, unable to escape. With horror seizing his heart, he realized who was he was looking at.. he realized what he had just fallen into.

Before him, and somewhere in the pit he had just fallen into lay a slumbering stone serpent.. Neversetting froze, realizing he had fallen into the graves of the lost. Cats and other creatures who had fallen victim to the stone serpent's petrifying sight would stand here forever as a warning and a reminder of those who had been lost. Primarily because it was too dangerous to retrieve them. Where a stone figure was.. the stone serpent wasn't usually far behind. A chill ran down neversetting's spine.

Behind the lithe form of the feline, a great eye opened, staring down at the newcomer that had disturbed the snake's rest. A hiss pulled itself from the depths of its throat, and the stone serpent reared up, jaws opening as the feline turned to find the stone serpent behind him.

Gazing into the eyes of the great snake, Neversetting felt frozen to the spot. An odd sensation coated his pelt, but as he stared into the eyes of the serpent, he felt as if he could forget all of the terror that had kept him here. He felt oddly at peace. The stone wrapped itself around the stone serpent's victim, encompassing the tom in its mineral layer. And then the world went silent. Silent as the stone around him.
