Simi looked around. He had no memory of how he got here, but he knew one thing. This Halloween festival was different. He could see all the element masters and kalons, but they weren’t
themselves. He watched a water master mess around with a koi fish in a blob of water, and the only words to describe what he did was glitch. He repeated the same moves, over and over. Swirl to your right, then twirl it in front of you, then the kalon went back to the start. Simi looked at his face, and the eyes were a pure red. He shuddered and pulled his cloak tighter.
He was walking, but he couldn’t remember where, or why, or even how he got here. “Why am I here?” He said aloud, and no one answered. The forest he was exploring, it was strange. Tall, thick, black pine trees stretching into the sky. Nothing moving in the undergrowth. There wasn’t even undergrowth. Just a long, winding path into the forest.
Simi arrived at a clearing. Black stones were set into the ground in a pattern, maybe a warding spell? He didn’t know, and he was drawn closer to the center.
Snap. Crunch. Crunch. SCREEEE! Crunch. Crunch. Snap.
Simi was walking on bones. Small rodent bones, skulls of animals that looked way to similar to kalons, and large skeletons of creatures with too many strange things about them. Simi desperately wanted to leave, but he couldn’t. He was no longer controlling his body.
SCREEEEEE! Flap flap SCREEEE!
Crunch. Crunch.
Click. Clack. Flapflap. Rattle.
Flapflapflap scritch. SCREEE!
Crunch. Crunch.
“Simi, my bird is hungry. Faster!”
Simi started running.
crunchcrunchcrunchsnap!
Simi arrived in the center circle. A large pole stuck up from the ground, with a perch on top. A large vulture was sitting on it, eyes glowing red. Bones rattled as the vulture shifted. They were tied to his perch, and they were all different sizes. Simi wanted to leave, but he was frozen in place. A shape slid in the shadows.
“Simi I need you to perform a spell. I can do it, but then I will die, so why not have you do it for me? Once you are done, my bird wants to have you for lunch.”
The shape slid out of the shadows. It was a red-black kalon, with snakes. Snakes were on it.
“You will know how to do it. It has some after effects to you, but it doesn’t matter, because I need it.”
Simi was shaking. Another shape was in the shadows. He started the spell.
It came naturally. Runes glowed in the ground, holes opened up. Things of nightmares came out of the portal. The kalon beside him was laughing. He knew her name. He knew the names of all the creatures. The kalons name was Anarchy. Sea Drakens and serpents and glow-snakes came out of the portals.
Anarchy shouted at him. He opened bigger portals. Bigger things came out. Creatures came flooding through. All the smallest portals closed, and the biggest one opened. He could see the tip of the wing, a claw, a horn. A massive dragon came out of the portal. Simi struggled. A shape flashed in the shadows again. Simi only remembered the next thing that happened. A dark shape swung a battleaxe at the dragon. It roared and fell back into the portal. Simi could hear a scream.
“WHAT DID YOU DO? I WAS TAKING CONTROL! IT WAS ALMOST DONE!” Anarchy was the one screaming. Simi wanted to leave, but he was still frozen in place. He was taking one step closer, another step, and he was in front of the perch.
“Chyros, you can’t save him now. He is dinner.”
Simi struggled. The bird hopped down. So many bones were tied to its perch, and tied to the bird. The bird looked at him. Simi took a step back. He went limp, and a kalon started dragging him. They threw him over their shoulders and started running.
“Chyros I NEED him!”
“You don’t need anyone Anarchy!”
Simi’s brain wasn’t working. He wanted silence. He didn’t want the screams and shrieks and roars and pain that came with it. He heard the kalon carrying him (it was Chyros right?) panting and they slowed down a bit. He could hear Chyros someone yell something, and then silence. The sound of a fire. Someone panting. And then sweet, sweet silence.
